16, 18 and 10 points in 3 games - I will take the #1 D over #1 O any day

It always seems to be the prevailing theme at the end.

Give me the #1 D over #1 O any day. Wade Philips for MVP, one heck of a defense they built over there in Denver.

OK, the night time championship game jinx is over with for a non-#6 seed. White jerseys win 11 out of last 12 SBs, Panthers never won a playoff game in black, and NFL MVP does not win SB since 1999, NFC has won the toss about 13 or 14 times in a row - all those trends still continue. :)

Congrats Broncos!!!

I always prayed for Polian to build a great dominant D every year instead of over paying for weapons for Peyton. D is the foundation of champions in the NFL.

Tony Dungy had that defense in Tampa Bay. Those old Bucs teams were loaded and absolutely terrifying on defense. 2002 would have been his Super Bowl if they would have just waited one more year.

But in Indy we didn't really have the personnel to pull it off. We didn't have dominating defensive tackles, run stopping LBs, or a great secondary other than Sanders.

I never thought Carolina was a real number one offense even with the statistics. They played a lot of bad defenses.  It didn't really start looking legit until they put up points on Seattle and Arizona.

Maybe the Green Bay game, but they also got a lot of good field position and what not from their defense turning the ball over.  I never looked at them as some type of precision scoring machine.

I'm still giggling over Aquib Talib and Philly Brown.  Aqib treated Philly like he was a pure scrub.  He grabbed that man by the facemask and just slung him out of bounds like some kind of rag doll.  He played Philly like he had absolutely no respect for the man.  They didn't respect any of Carolinas personnel other than maybe Olson.

I know what you mean. I always believed Dungy would have had to start from scratch to build another unit like he had in Tampa Bay. He spent years making that team in Tampa Bay, it was a lot of work.

He made things work with what he had though, and that's part of why he was such a great coach. He had guys like Booger McFarland in Tampa Bay, who were not big names but would play big and I think he brought Booger over to the Colts over time.

    • Seems like this team gets a lot of untimely injuries that come out of nowhere. Smith and Kelly, Lewis injuries just appeared out of nowhere. None of those injuries were even mentioned after the Bears game.
    • Yep. He must of woke up Thursday with it. I assume Pinter will play center if he can’t go. That tackle slot is worrisome if smith can’t go. The defense is looking ridiculously banged up.
    • QB is hard.  It's easy to sit back and expect guys to look like Marino but every QB has a different ceiling and a different path to that ceiling.  And again getting there is a long and tough road and the toughness in that road includes everything from injuries to quality of the team around them.   Richardson still looks like the guy we saw on tape in college.  He is an elite run threat who can put the ball anywhere on the field, but his consistency in ball placement is not good.  I used to believe that can't be fixed.  Until Josh Allen.  Now these types of QBs are guys teams will take a flyer on, because of supply and demand, and the immense impact if you can hit on one of them.  But here we are and he's still the same QB, which is a bit of a concern to me at this point.   It's not like he doesn't still have time to get his game in order.  He does.  And even if he fails in Indy he'll have another chance with another team due to his talent level.  So it's still too early to get all crazy about where he's at.   For myself I'll say what I keep saying about him: he needs to learn to move the offense from the protection of the pocket.  That is how you have a long career and end up in the Hall with a million passing yards.  If he does not develop that part of his game the end result will be his teams will use his legs to move the offense and he'll get hurt and miss time and demonstrate why RBs have such a short shelf life.  So his career is in his hands.  He has to learn and do it or he'll suffer the results.
    • I wonder how Kelly got his neck injury he seemed fine and even practiced on Wednesday right,
    • Seems like every time the Colts face the Steelers the OL gets injured smh.
