The development of Ron Rivera

I recently read two really good articles on how Ron Rivera has gotten to where he is now. One is about how he has benefited from John Madden's influence, and the second is about how the Panthers turned it around since the end of 2014 (when they were 3-8-1, hadn't won in two months, and had just been rolled by the Vikings).

These articles caught my attention because not a lot of people think of Rivera as a great coach; before this year, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who thought he was even a good coach. He's been on the hot seat for basically three years. After some disappointments, he's in the Super Bowl.

I've compared his trajectory to Pagano's. He might not be a master strategist, but if Rivera could rework his approach and basically dominate in Year 5, there's hope for Pagano as well. Hopefully.
