I like when players give a hometown discount, it shows they are not in it just for the money, and would rather have the continuity.

I'll wait to see the structure, but I don't think it's really a discount. I think $9m/year is right in range.

I don't know the Denver cap situation, but hopefully that hamstrings them in the pursuit of Von Miller. If Miller hits the open market I hope the Colts at least are in the bidding war.

I thought they'd choose between Wolfe and Jackson, and keep Miller. I still do, unless Miller wants $16m/year.

Chances are you are correct, and I agree that is most likely the case. I still wouldn't be opposed to Jackson, he is a great player as well. What kind of a contract would you expect Jackson to get on the open market?

I'd say $10-12m/year, unless there's something I'm overlooking.

If you're right and the cap goes up, they'll have enough to sign Milles and Jackson..

....Obviously, Peyton will play for a lot less or ride off with a  trophy

They have other free agents, Trevathan and Marshall, etc. Not to mention Osweiler. And then there's future years to consider. With Miller, that's four free agents with the earning power to command big money. To tag Jackson will cost ~$12-15m, depending on whether they call him a DE or a DT.

They could work it out and keep both of them. I just always assumed they'd choose one or the other. And honestly, I figured they'd choose Jackson over Wolfe, all things being equal.

OT Ryan Clady also makes $10 mil at least and they have to decide whether to count on him.

He's missed 2 of the last 3 seasons..

I remember alot on here begging for him still. So glad we didn't make that mistake....

To release Peyton, Ware and Clady is almost $40 mil ..I don't know how much the cap rises

Ware is each to replace with the rookie from Missouri who is a backup now

I'm guessing the only guy they'd tag is Von Miller..but you make a good point about what position they say Jackson  plays. I think OG Luis Vasquez has an unguranteed year left on his deal, too....and his play has declined surprisingly ....and they like their young linemen long term....

...The elephant (or elephants) in the room are at the QB position.

The can keep Peyton or Brock or neither......depending on how the playoffs go.

They have to cut Peyton (he's under contract) and that becomes more difficult the further they go in the post-season.  Unless they win it all..and then I think its easy.... because its mission accomplished.

I have this nightmare of Peyton as a Houston Texan

Elway has used his cap space pretty wisely. I expect clady, Peyton, ware, and Vasquez all to be cut. They should be able to keep Wolfe, Jackson, Miller, and Oz. they have to retool that OL but they should have that defense back mostly intact and have replacements in Barrett and Ray for Ware. The big issue I think is Oz the guy going forward and wade Phillips second season is never as good as his first with a team. Sometimes I think his aggressive style wears out players...causes more injuries breaks down guys.

    • Our defense will never be GREAT as long as we play * defense by having corners 10 yards off the ball on 3rd and 3. And an unbelievable unwillingness to blitz more than 4 times a game. And also, it doesn't matter who is in the secondary if the front seven can't stop the run(we can) and get to the passer(we did ok getting to the passer, but we need more blitzing from lb'ers). Our first pick should be an offensive lineman like Fuaga, Powers-Johnson, or Barton. Then target a receiver like Polk, Pearsall, Washington, Corley, or Roman Wilson in the second or third rounds. As much as I would like to get Bowers I just don't see it happening. And we need a very good linebacker to go along with Speed and Franklin.
    • Yeah, could very well be. I think I remember Ballard said he did it to have more flexibility when asked. if it is Paye, I would rather see him play out the year before extending.
    • The idea of DeJean going in the late first round is due to his instincts and overall very competent play in nearly all aspects of DB play.  Cover 3 FS is more valuable, IMO, than a cover 2 FS.   Contrast DeJean's overall RAS and talents with Hooker, who was only good at being a single high deep guy...especially his rookie year where he picked off bad QBs for a while...and DeJean at 22 or later with a 3rd round pick gathered from a trade down is a much better decision than Hooker was at 15.   BTW, Blackmon had the same ACL injury as Hooker and did well as an overall S as a rookie, but wasn't a single high speed guy, and is probably still a better overall S now than Hooker is in DAL...both having the exact same injury years ago.
    • To the bolded, I don't constantly hear that. I see people say it on the Internet. It was a big thing when we were looking for a HC, how candidates would be scared off because of how the Reich/Saturday thing went, Irsay's meddling, etc. One specific theory was Sirianni would tell Steichen not to take the Colts job. We see how that went.   Does Irsay's history negatively impact the team? I'd like to know if there's any examples where you think it has.
    • Some are not understanding this. Have a feeling there will be an upset group after Thursday night. Give AR every opportunity to succeed by surrounding him with weapons. If Pittman was to miss a few weeks, it would be bad. Tbh we should draft offense the 1st and 2nd rounds. Sign a Simmons and a vet corner.
