Jerrell Freeman in top 10 breakout players of 2015

It does make you wonder though - Malik Jackson or Derek Wolfe, which FA would you go after??? Derek Wolfe was finally allowed to attack in Wade Philips' D and his production has skyrocketed. But then, Malik Jackson has shown more durability with more downs in both JDR's 4-3 and Wade Philips' 3-4.

For the reasons you state, I think Jackson is a better player and will either be prioritized by Denver or make more money than Wolfe, or both. However, Wolfe is not a bad consolation prize for whoever gets him.

Freeman played extremely well this season and made me eat my words. I still don't know about giving him a big contract, but I now wouldn't have a problem with him being back as a starter.

That's why I said it's too bad he's a free agent. I don't think we can get his contract right. He's 30, this is his only chance to cash in, and there are a ton of teams with lots of cap space who will give him more money than we should (IMO). He might also be irritated that we tendered him with no long term offer. I think he's gone.

I never understood the lack of a long term deal last spring.  He may have had a down year and was constantly dinged up, so maybe Grigson was trying to get him on the cheap.  Despite not being an ideal fit, I always thought he was fairly solid player worthy of a two-to-three year deal.  Maybe he wanted more.......and both sides settled on a one year prove it deal.

Hmm Pro Football Reference has Freeman at 698 defensive snaps http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/clt/2015-snap-counts.htm

and so does football outsiders http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/snapcounts

PFF is very flawed, I will never understand the fascination that some have with it? While I believe they have some credible information, in no way should they be put on the pedestal that some do? They are self proclaimed Brits with no NFL experience of any kind selling snake oil for a premium price...all so you can dominate your fantasy league ;).

Having Parry, Anderson and Langford in front of him certainly hasn't hurt.  Now imagine what he could do if we added a couple passrushers.

The play in front of him has been good in the stretch that he is being touted about.
The other Good offenses they are also talking about are Atl. they had 4 turnovers and Ryan was terrible, Tampa Bay, Houston. They rushed for 100 @ 4.2ypc with 46 pass attempts, 132 @ 6.3ypc, 155 @ 4.2 ypc.
Freeman has 1 sack & 1 pass defended for the season.
He HAS looked pretty good, for him, the last half of this season, but he was stinkeroo in the early part of the season. A playmaker on a Good Defense, not so much.
I do wish him good luck whatever his future.

He's been great this year. But I don't think we need to give him the kind of money he'll want. We need to put a playmaking ILB next to DQ IMO.

Honestly, we need to dump Jackson and Freeman like Superman said earlier this season. I just don't know what our defense will look like without them.

Na. They've both played well this year. We need to keep one of them. We just need to put an athletic playmaker next to him.

I like both of them honestly. I just think we need to pull a Belichick and get rid of them a year or two earlier. Their decline will hurt this team tremendously.

    • Fries has proven to be a diamond find.  Figure our salary cap will determine how our OL future pans out. Starting WRs are some of the best in the league.  Can AR connect with them like Menshew done?    TE room wouldn’t mind adding Fannin but team needs devalue him as BPA.  Conyers is great in run blocking and can catch hoping falls to R4-6 range.    DL help is a major area of need agreed.  Think I had a Day 3 initial grade on NT Rene Konga but each week he has impressed.  Between Konga and Michigan’s Benny probably our two best choices for Stewart’s role.  See my recent Week 4 top 10-15 players posted especially for LB and DB options.
    • I would personally like to see more bootlegs, and more throws on the run. AR is SO good at that.   Especially since they love playing out of shotgun so much.
    • Army is playing mistake free football, very impressive so far. One of a handful of unbeaten Group of 5 schools.
