Pagano post game speech

If he was such a bad coach explain how he did get the record he has. So please tell me who is responsible for helping the Colts over achieve their first three seasons?

Good QB play. Norv Turner made it to the AFC championship game....is he a good coach? Wade Phillips has a winning record....is he a good coach?

Plus, I never said he was bad. But great? Lol, no.

you really believe Chuck is a GREAT coach? Seriously?

Absolutely do. In my opinion, several people here have an unrealistic view of what a great coach is and what makes them great. My definition of a great coach is a guy that can take 90+ individual skill sets and talents and can drive them to all believe and fight for the same thing.

Players love him and play hard for him. I know comebacks aren't a measure of success because it requires you to be consistently out of the lead, but if this team didn't have great coaching and adjustments we would have nowhere near the amount of comebacks that we've had.

He learns from his mistakes. Over the last 3 years there has definitely been growth with Pagano. We've seen improvement in several football related areas. People forget we were one of the least penalized teams last year, which I know isn't the case there year but there are several other factors. Tell me a great coach never makes mistakes or has mishaps.

Look around the NFL and be grateful for what the organization currently has, specifically to coaching.

I looked. I'm grateful for Chud at least.

No need to put "opinion" in bold. I realize that it's your opinion....hence the question.

So with your high standards exactly how many great NFL coaches are there? How do you determine that? Your opinion? Pagano has as good if not better record this season as does 22 other NFL teams. Prior to this season his record was 33-15. As far as Norv Turner he is a great coach, just not a head coach. That can be said about Wade Phillips as well. Yes, the Colts have had good QB play but those records didn't happen by a QB doing it by himself. Super bowl wins are not the tell all of how good a coach is. Let me put a little trivia on you. Did you know that Jim Mora has 29 more career wins than Vince Lambardi? Hard to believe isn't it?  My point being is just because your opinion of what great NFL coaches are might not be 100% correct.

That was a bunch of words without saying anything.

Wait one minute. My opinion isn't fact? Wow, way to point that out Rusty.

Wasn't just for you haha. This forum gets so sensitive at times and if you aren't obnoxiously clear between fact and opinion people will jump down your throat.

The key to me is watching Jimmy when Chuck speaks in the locker room & whether he nods in agreement or starts tuning you out. So far; So good. Irsay appears to be buying what Pagano is selling. For now.

We will see what happens when December rolls around I guess. Jimmy has large expectations & for the money he spent this season. That's not unreasonable either.

There's only 4 great head coaches in the NFL.

And what do you base your opinion on? Does this cover just head coaches? That would narrow it down? :)

Yes. Just head coaches. I base it on consistency, being prepared, level of play based on roster talent, record, strength of schedule, ect

Who's in your top 4?

1.Hoodie

2.Coughlin?

3.Mccarthy?

4.John Harbaugh?

(No particular order)

I'd probably have to throw Andy Reid in there. 10 of 16 years winning record. SB appearance though did not win it. Wins despite average QB's......and a below average  QB currently

Coughlin? Why this guy gets so much respect is beyond me.

Nah, he just coached an expansion team to the best record in NFL history. A 12-7 post season record and two super bowl wins. One against an undefeated team at the time. That's all. Nothing big.

1. It wasnt your typical expansion team. Both the Panthers and the jags were allowed access nfl veterans never afforded expansions teams before or since. The panthers made it to the NFC championship game in yr 2.

2. Didn't you just tell me earlier super bowl wins aren't everything (even though I never implied they were)? I guess it was tom who got Eli to play out of his mind in those SB runs. Take out those two iprobable runs and it's not overly impressive.

A good, not great coach who isn't anywhere near #2 IMO.

I love Pagano so if someone gets fired after the year it should be Grigson, not Chuck. Grigson has yet to build the foundation of a physical team that Pagano wants like he had in Baltimore. Build the OL and front seven on Defense. The rest will fall into place.

So let me get this right? When another coach (Coughlin) does what he does it was because of players. But when Pagano does not do well it is not players? Is that speaking out of both sides?

Good lord, stop acting like I said Coughlin stinks. I clearly said he was a good coach, just not great.....And I think his career reflects that.

What does Pagano have to do with this? I didn't like Pagano last year and I don't like him now...so it has nothing to do with his record. Stop grasping for straws.

I just found it funny in a strange way you can judge one coach over another with one being successful because of his players and the other because of your dislike for him and lay the blame on him. That's what I was taking from your comments.

Yesterdays game made me appreciate Chuck even more. Watching those is what incredibly evident how many of those players were just quitting on their coaches during the game, mostly in that Philadelphia game. Chuck may make mistakes but he is learning and his players NEVER quit on him.
