Mathis Breakout? - Nate Solder to IR

Recommended Posts

Pats starting LT Nate Solder has a torn bicep and is out for year.

Could this be a good day for Mathis? Seeing how Dallas feasted, maybe we could create similar success?

It makes more sense that a good LT like Solder was struggling with injury that lead to the 5 sacks rather then uncharacteristic poor play.  When he was replaced the sacks went away, still it's an overall talent downgrade at that position unless they do something like move Vollmer over to that spot.

No PEDs, no sacks

Come on... That is not right. Football players are tested multiple times every year. He's averaging 10 sacks per year roughly.

I hope he can get the motor going for this game. If anyone on this team knows what these games against the Pats means, it Mathis because of his longevity with the Colts.

Well it depends if Mathis gets more snaps.  I also believe who ever the Pats have as their backup will step in and do fine.  Hopefully Mathis as well as a few others can get to Brady this Sunday night.  I am hoping for it but our pass rush has been less than impressive so far.

They have been rotating like 9 lineman on offense based on the package...so I think they'll be ok. But Solder was a mainstay. Probably won't make much difference bc they'll go up tempo and quick routes

How about Trent Cole breaking out? Mathis has had quite a few pressures and has looked better in pass rushing situations than Cole has as a starter this year.

Yeah. I would think Vollmer over to LT and Cannon to the right side. He is better there.

Mathis has been getting close lately. However, we're playing the Patriots and Tom Brady will not hold the ball longer than 2.5 seconds.

Bill Belichick has back-ups for his back-ups lol. Losing Solder will hurt but Brady is known for his quick release.

I'm sure whoever the Pats stick at LT will gain magical powers to protect Brady for hours on end.

Magical powers is code for skirting the rules....... Again ?

No PEDs, no sacks

for real? it wasn't even a real PED it was a fertility drug PRESCRIBED by a doctor to get his wife pregnant. (and she conceived)

and it was in the freakin offseason and the surgeries and the snap count like for real???

Solder hadn't been good. Maybe he was hurt already, but the Pats protection got better last week when he went out. I didn't see him get hurt and then he was back for a couple snaps, and then gone again. I thought he got benched.

Too bad Solder is out for the year, but injuries happen.  We have lost some depth now on the OL.  Be good to get Stork back in the lineup.

Its not the end of the world as we will figure out something, but its still a bummer when one looses a starter.

    • If its the deflate gate thing we're talking about, his how he conducted himself and the cover up were in the capacity of an NFL player.    To me there is a huge distinction between personal conduct as a player and personal conduct as just another citizen.
    • Right, I agree with you, I’m saying it’s not up to us to pass judgement and none of us should blame anyone for any decision. I guess I could have phrased it better, but what I mean is that we can’t be sure about anything that has been said or has surfaced, so why are we even arguing over it and getting upset about decisions when we have minimal insight into it. I just want everyone to let it go and leave decision making to the people who get it, yet that will never happen and people will always want justice. I agree though, Goodell catches way too much flak, and we all prance around acting like we know better.
    • What people want is to criticize Goodell and the league, and they'll do that no matter what.    The NFL said they cannot conclude that Hill violated the conduct policy. There's significant doubt cast on whether Hill harmed the child at all. I think what Hill said on the phone call with his ex-partner was terrible, but I don't think that saying something terrible rises to the level of being worthy of a suspension.   And let's say the league did suspend him over this matter, based on what they know so far. If further information came out, would they be able to suspend him again? I think that's a major legal consideration.   To me, it's hypocritical to make an issue over how the NFL handles player conduct, because the fans and media are quite literally NEVER happy with what happens. If a player is suspended, Goodell is being unfair, and everyone says the league shouldn't be punishing players for off the field actions. If a player is not suspended, Goodell is being inconsistent, and everyone says they should treat each situation the same.    The NFL is now using a committee to give input and help make determinations on these matters. It's not Roger Goodell sitting at his desk and deciding on a whim whether to suspend a player or not. But the popular and seemingly automatic reaction is 'Goodell is an *,' and it doesn't matter what the decision is. It's always about how awful Goodell is.
    • The hype train has been huge compared to what it usually is.   The shows have actually talked about the Colts and I haven’t seen but maybe 1 predication where the Colts are not winning the division.   The Colts usually play better when they are under the radar. Now that they have the NFL’s attention we will see what happens.
    • I've seen lots touting Colts as contenders
