DeMarcus Ware is having a 2013 Robert Mathis like season

Is it just me or are we seeing DeMarcus Ware moving around like a spring chicken, much like Robert Mathis was in 2013?

Not sure what to make of it, it is a drastic turnaround. I know the scheme fit, comfort level and health etc. but some of this defies what I see pass rushers of his age do.  :dunno:

Thoughts???

Maybe he's trying to get pregnant?

He was not a free agent. He was signed after the 2013 off season by the Broncos to a 3 year deal along with Talib and T.J. Ward signed during the same off season.

Yeah that's what I meant. Offseason before last. But we also didn't have any idea Mathis would later get injured so... I just worded it bad LOL. Changed it though.

He looked good last year too until the end of the season when he faded out which is why Dallas let him go ...

He wasn't nearly as good though. We will see with time, I guess.

The difference this year is that Elway drafted Shane Ray and they have Shaq Barrett as 2 other young OLBs behind Von Miller and Ware that have been surprisingly more than adequate in providing breathers for the starters. When your backups can hold the fort, it helps prolong longevity for defensive players. The Broncos, surprisingly, have better defensive depth than I thought they did. It also helps they are being coached by a real defensive coach in Wade Philips unlike Jack Del Rio, who I thought was always overrated.

Funny how the Broncos wanted Vance Joseph from the Bengals, and the Bengals wouldn't allow him to interview with the Broncos, so Kubiak went with a familiar face in Wade Philips and here they are as the #1 D while the Bengals are #12.

Yes, they have some nice depth so we will see if Ware remains fresh and healthy. Same with Miller who usually misses time with an injury and Talib.

I am not a big Wade Phillips fan although he is doing a nice job. We will see how things look when Rogers and Brady come in November. That will be a good litmus test for his unit.

It is funny that once Jack Del Rio goes to the Raiders, the Raiders give up 5 passing TDs to TEs in 3 games already. The achilles heel with the JDR coached Broncos was always pass defense vs TEs. The strength of a Wade Philips coached D is pass defense vs TEs. Wade Philips gets beat more by throws outside the numbers and when he has good pass rush and CBs, those weaknesses are diminished. When Wade Philips had Jamaal Williams for NT in the middle, had Merriman and Philips in their prime for pass rush OLBs, Jammer and Cromartie in their prime for CBs, that is when his best defensive numbers happened, IMO, with the Chargers. The 2 games Brady played against him then - a 17-41 loss to Brees and the Chargers in 2005 and a mistake laden playoff win 24-21 vs the Chargers. When Wade Philips had bad secondaries with the Cowboys and Texans, Brady roasted him alive. Just goes to show you, all the pressure in the world cannot do much if your secondary is bad and vice versa, both need to go hand in hand to have an elite defense.

Like you said, every personnel is different. More things will become obvious in November like you said vs Rodgers and Brady.

    • I compared AR to Mike Vick recently but didn't get alot of reaction.   AR may never fix his accuracy issues like Vick who struggled with short and intermediate accuracy his entire career.    But Vick was a dynamic runner and could hit the deep bombs with just a flick of the wrist.   Vick resurrected a very sad Falcons franchise and I was a huge fan.   If AR became Vick 2.0 would Colts fans be happy ? I would be
    • Seems like this team gets a lot of untimely injuries that come out of nowhere. Smith and Kelly, Lewis injuries just appeared out of nowhere. None of those injuries were even mentioned after the Bears game.
    • Yep. He must of woke up Thursday with it. I assume Pinter will play center if he can’t go. That tackle slot is worrisome if smith can’t go. The defense is looking ridiculously banged up.
    • QB is hard.  It's easy to sit back and expect guys to look like Marino but every QB has a different ceiling and a different path to that ceiling.  And again getting there is a long and tough road and the toughness in that road includes everything from injuries to quality of the team around them.   Richardson still looks like the guy we saw on tape in college.  He is an elite run threat who can put the ball anywhere on the field, but his consistency in ball placement is not good.  I used to believe that can't be fixed.  Until Josh Allen.  Now these types of QBs are guys teams will take a flyer on, because of supply and demand, and the immense impact if you can hit on one of them.  But here we are and he's still the same QB, which is a bit of a concern to me at this point.   It's not like he doesn't still have time to get his game in order.  He does.  And even if he fails in Indy he'll have another chance with another team due to his talent level.  So it's still too early to get all crazy about where he's at.   For myself I'll say what I keep saying about him: he needs to learn to move the offense from the protection of the pocket.  That is how you have a long career and end up in the Hall with a million passing yards.  If he does not develop that part of his game the end result will be his teams will use his legs to move the offense and he'll get hurt and miss time and demonstrate why RBs have such a short shelf life.  So his career is in his hands.  He has to learn and do it or he'll suffer the results.
    • I wonder how Kelly got his neck injury he seemed fine and even practiced on Wednesday right,
