It's unfortunate what happened to Arthur Jones, but this is a blessing in disguise.

Henry Anderson is the better player.

Slightly early to say that but Jones has been unimpressive thus far as a Colt.

I do like what I've seen so far from Anderson and especially Langford. Nothing much to speak of after those two.

If you're looking for any sort of blame for injuries, you can MAYBE point to the trainers/coaching staff. If the players aren't in proper shape or something is not right in their training process, it could lead to injuries.

Injuries to muscles, tendons, and (to a lesser extent) ligaments, can be somewhat preventable with good conditioning. Rolling your ankle is just a chance injury that could happen to anyone, no matter what kind of shape they're in, and there's only so much tape that can be wrapped around someone's ankle.

I am sure this has been said already somewhere (scanned the many pages) but it sure would have been nice to have signed one of the many D lineman FA's that were out there and to have drafted one in the first round.  Our O-line and D-line overall look as suspect as each of the past 3 years.  Art Jones, on the other hand, has never lived up to the hype in any way since he came here.  Ah well...

I was speaking in a more general sense and not particularly about Jones but the problem is it's been a consistent problem since he's arrived to Indianapolis.

We are still a good enough team we should be able to compete for a first rd bye with or without Jones. I'm worried about player health heading into the playoffs as opposed to the first 6 weeks. Don't get me wrong I know we have to win our division to get in but we have seen numerous times...the best teams don't always win the SB.....typically its the team that is healthy, playing well *usually that is a healthy team, and that minimizes mistakes and executes well. If Art can get back some time later in the season and play well...that will be the important part.

I hear ya. And injuries have been an issue for this team year in and year out, so I think there's something to the strength/conditioning theory, but sprained ankles are gonna happen regardless.

I think Anderson is going to be a really, really good player in the mold of a Justin Smith, but in no way is losing our best defensive lineman a blessing bro. Art Jones is a monster against the run.

Langford has already looked better than Jones ever has as a Colt. Thankfully.

really?  the numbers say hes barely made an impact.... only 5 to 7 yards per game better with him in vs him out.....

That's what we hoped for, at the very least.  Can you honestly say he's ever been that while here?

Again, I realize that players get hurt, that's the NFL.  All I'm saying is that he won't really be missed since he was never a force while we had him in the first place.

I agree, I was just pointing out he was never a great player

Flash back a year or so ago. Everyone on this forum was begging Grigson to sign Art Jones. Now it's all "swing and a miss again for Grigson, blah blah blah"

I may have missed some, but I counted one guy blaming Grigson.....and he has 17 posts.

I know he's barley played with us but last year our run D was significantly better with him in the lineup. When he's healthy he's a beast.

Gavin did a wrote up earlier in this thread.......

Arthur Jones missed the following games last season:

week 3-Jax

Week 4-Titans

Week 5-Ravens

Week 6-Houston

Week 7-Bengals

Week 9-Giants

Week 11-Patriots

Allowed 105 yards rushing vs Jax

Allowed 85 yards rushing vs Titans

90 yards allowed vs Baltimore

136 yards allowed vs Texans

32 yards allowed vs Bengals (But only 12 attempts.....still 32 yards)

89 yards allowed vs Giants

246 yards allowed vs Patriots

111.8 yards allowed a game in those 7 games

In the 9 games Jones played in: Denver, Philly, Pitt, Jax, Washington, Browns, Texans, Dallas, Titans

Denver-102 yards allowed

Eagles-127 yards allowed (Though 22 were by Foles)

Pitt-117 yards allowed (He did not start in this game but played 36 snaps) http://www.stampedeblue.com/2014/10/27/7077859/colts-week-eight-snap-counts-vs-steelers

Jax-80 yards allowed

Redskins-84 allowed (12 of those came off McCoy though)

Browns-115 yards....3 of those off Hoyer

Texans-137 yards......But 16 by Fitzpatrick

Cowboys-127 yards rushing-But 28 by Romo

Titans-142 yards rushing (19 by Whitehurst)

103.4 yards rushing allowed....Does the better numbers attribute to Jones being in those games? No I don't think so in this case, To get an idea of how affective Jones was for the team you would have to grade the player based on what he was doing

8 yards isnt drastically better.......

With respect to my friend Gavin,  his analysis is flawed -- badly flawed.

How?    Because he doesn't show the total number of carries each week?     That gives you an idea of how good or bad those total yardage figures are.

And with Jones in our line-up, the Colts run defense averaged about one yard less per carry than when Jones was out of the line-up.     Yards per carry is a much, much more revealing figure than just total yards alone.

We did sign a FA d-lineman.

so we went from what...10 yards a carry to 9 yards a carry... haha sorry couldn't resist.  I'm just saying that his impact isn't as major as some want us to believe.  Does it hurt, yes, is it the touch of death with him out, no.  Plus I think having the different and better upgrades this year, that impact maybe nothing at all.  Anderson, while a rookie, is doing quite well.  Langford is a beast, having Irving back will help as well.  Plus Walden, who is arguably the most underrated player on our team.  I think we'll be ok.

I was thinking Haloti or Vince....

Man I wanted Ngata so bad. Can you imagine our team with a beast like him on the D-Line. Ngata with Langford, and Jones, with Anderson and Kerr rotating could have been special. I was hoping the Ravens would just cut him and we could sign him, but it didn't work out. Wish we had of at least gotten Knighten though.

Has there been an update or ETA on his return? I glanced, but haven't seen anything.

I was wondering the same. I thought I read Sunday that we would have known something yesterday and nothing came out yesterday that I've seen. That makes me worry that maybe its a worse injury than he thought, I hope not.

We paid him too much, but I would like him for next year at a reduced cost. Silver lining, I love Anderson, and Parry I believe is going to be a very good NT for us. Plus they already have communication down from Stanford. I wanted Jones in there, and I believe he will be back second part of season, but it gives Parry and Anderson more time to develop!

"NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Jones will need ankle surgery to repair torn ligaments, according to two sources informed of the situation. Rapoport reports that Jones is a candidate to be placed on injured reserve with a designation to return at best. It sounds like season-ending injured reserve is also an option."

Figured this would happen.  The avalanche of Colts injuries starts about this time of year, every year.  Broken record. Let's just get over injuries already.
