Will Grigson Work The Phones Near Final Cuts?

What are you doing?!?

Why would you decide Duron Carter is "just average" after two pre-season games?!?    You're so much smarter than that!

And why would you think Vick Ballard has ANY trade value right now?     Again,  you're smarter than that!

This is complete nonsense and not worthy of you!

Regardless of who is throwing him the ball, he just doesn't jump off the screen when you're watching him. Plus, he should be blowing by receivers and always getting open.... Especially since he plays against 2s and 3s

First, you have no idea if he's open every play.

Second,  he's not going to be a starter for the Colts this year.    And maybe not even next year.

He's competing for the 3rd WR spot and is likely going to be our 5th WR.    That means he's on our 2nd and/or 3rd team.   So the guys he's competing against are roughly the same.

Third,   did I mention that this is only PRE-SEASON?!?     You act as if whatever Carter is today,  that's all he'll ever be.   Like he can't ever get better?     So, let's get rid of him now.     Nobody knows what Carter will be this year or next.    And you want go jump the gun.

That's the kind of talk that dominates internet sports message board's from young posters who make up their minds way too quickly without anything to back it up.

Whatever Carter is today,  he'll be better down the road.    Whatever he is this year,  he'll be better next year.

Why don't we find out just how good he can be?    It might be better than you think.

One last thought........   do you know who led the NFL is drops in 1985 as a rookie?     Some wide receiver named Jerry Rice.

Whatever happened to him?

That's the point.     By the sounds of some.       And who are the some?

They're the same posters,  day after day,  week after week,  year after year.    Reactionaries.    Prisoners of the moment.

People who have no patience or perspective, or any sense of recent history.     They just know they're unhappy and they want action and they want it NOW!!!!

These are the people who dominate internet sports message boards and AM talk radio shows.

People who forget we were 0-4 in last year's pre-season and despite losing our first two games we still went 11-5 and went all the way to the AFCCG.

It's pre-season.    There's plenty of time to be angry and demand change somewhere down the road.   Screaming for it now always looks downright silly.

I just can't put all the blame on Carter the o line allows a rush almost as soon as the ball is snapped and Bennett and MH have been vet very off target

He did try. He admitted on a local radio show that he tried his hardest to sign La'el Collins after the draft. Collins just chose to sign with Dallas.

Don't bring up facts in this conversation. There is no room for that crap here. Just remember, Grigson has never attempted to fix the o-line. He hasn't drafted o-line, didn't try to sign Collins, hasn't signed free agent o-lineman.

yeah i was baffled by the fact grigson did not make an attempt at La'el Collins after the investigation in Louisiana was over. nobody made an attempt except dallas. as far as mathis goes, that is another one, Grigson i figured would have tried his hardest to get him in indy being he was coming out of philly.

Not true. Grigson did go after Collins, however Collins decided to sign with Dallas. He's already spoken about this before

    • I am not a big believer in hiring the so called offensive mind. I believe that is the role of a competent qb coach and offensive coordinator. We are playing a coach in Tomlin who is maybe the best coach in the league and he was a defensive coach. Williams is not struggling because of coaching. They have no run game and he is constantly getting pressured and that is on the GM. They didn't invest in the Oline. They built their receiver group in the draft and through free agency.  A solid Oline would have taken pressure off of Williams. The Colts are actually built well to insulate a rookie qb and give him time to grown.  If you look deep into Fields stats, he is still a bad qb. They are just not putting a lot on his plate, running the ball down teams throats and playing strong D.
    • Apparently it is that hard to grasp. They're the #1 ranked  OL through 3 weeks. Not over the entire season. Not over the course of several seasons. They're #1 right now. They're giving a better performance than the other 31 OL. That does not automatically mean they're playing at an elite level. What if no OL is playing at an elite level?   Imagine you're in school in a class of 30. The class is given a test. You get the highest score with a B-. All that means is you had the highest grade but no one scored a perfect, or elite, grade.    Can you grasp it now or do I need to get out the crayons?
    • I think teams are going to give up the run and force offence to march down the field on a 10 play drive and score. They are going to take away the big play and make Richardson throw intermediate and short passes. The defense believes that he will throw up a pick and/or the offense will stall.  Although,  I dislike the cover 2 defense, it is perfect against a guy like Richardson. The Colts have not shown that they can put long drives together. It is early and it is up to Richardson to make teams attack more. If they continue to run with success and Richardson makes those easy plays.  Then it is a different ball game and it opens up everything. Quite simple actually, lol.  If Taylor is pounding the rock against 4 man fronts because Richardson has improved his accuracy.  Then the D will have to pick their poison. Do you play up to stop the run, short and intermediate passes? Or do they play back to stop the big play? Richardson's evolution, if it happens, will stress the defense probably like no other qb because of his skill set.
