The Future of Caldwell and the Polians [Mega-merge]

In one sense, I'm happy that he is gone because he wasn't head coaching material. In another sense, I'm not happy because you never want to see someone lose their job. The players seemed to really like Caldwell and they played hard until the end (Santonio Holmes, take notice). Hopefully he can find another job somewhere, be it college or pros or wherever. His knowledge of the pro game and pro systems would be an advantage if he were to apply for college positions.

Regarding the Polians, if the rumours are true about them interfering with every single aspect of how the team is run, that needs to stop or they need to go. It's great that Bill is awesome at finding talent and all, but a GM should stay out of the business of the coaches (unless you're some kinda crazy scheming hooded mastermind working in the Boston area...).

What? Ok whatever. What suprised me was the puppet master getting rid of the puppet; ie: puppetmaster: polian puppet: caldwell.

The only actual facts available are that there was a meeting last night with Irsay, Polian, Polian, and Caldwell to discuss the future of the franchise. If anyone was fired in that context, it was Irsay doing the firing directly (as any decent boss should).

For all we know Irsay just cleaned house in one fell swoop, or nobody was fired and the tweeter is all wet. We will see in a few hours.

::Irsay gathers everyone in the room::

Irsay: Caldwell, you're fired. Polian and Polian?... You're fired. ::Yells to the locker room:: Painter, you're fired! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to take 15 minutes to convert this situation into a cryptic tweet, then another 15 minutes to relearn the technology to post it.

All this fire Caldwell talk is overreaction and it is being blown out of proportion. It's a adjustment year,it happens in the NFL.Things have been a lot worse for a lot more than one year in the past.

The problem is everyone has gotten used to consistently being at the top so when there are problems everybody panics and demands the head of the coach.

He is doing the best he can with the tools he has.Just need to make some good picks, get everyone healed up,and reorganize.

GO COLTS! :applause:

Thanks for your perspective Jim.

1) Rumors of Caldwell's eventual demise have been hot and heavy all weekend.

2) It should come as no surprise that someone might lose their job after going 2-14.

I just hope we get a proven NFL coach in here. Not Tressel he might be a great college FB coach who also cheats. But look how many college coaches failed in the Pro leagues in any sport rather it be basketball and football and etc. But if the Polians stay, I expect nothing less from them. Tressel will be another puppet. I am hoping for Caldwell and the two Polians gone.

That's what people fail to realize with Tressel. HE WAS A GOOD COACH. and as far as him cheating, let me breakdown like this:

Let's say you and your son are out at Mcdonalds one night after his football practice. The manager of the Mcdonalds says "O HEY YOUR THAT GUY ON OHIO STATE THAT PLAYS FOOTBALL, MEALS ON ME TONIGHT GUYS!". You both get extremely excited and proceed to smash 6 big macs. BEEP BEEP you just broke the NCAA rules. Welcome to the Jim Tressel story.

He is also an old guy who does not have NFL experience - unless you count 8 part-time weeks as a replay assistant this year. That is not a resume that gets you hired in the NFL.
