Brady suspended four games, Pats fined and docked two draft picks (Mega Merge)

Good for the Steelers, Bills, and the Jaguars. They get to play against a Brady-less NE team, while the Colts, who brought up the deflated balls to the NFL, get to play against Tom Brady a NE team looking for blood.

I think the overall penalties are about right,  but I would've given Brady 6 games instead of 4.

He would've gotten 4 games for the competitive advantage rule and he would've gotten another 2 for NOT cooperating with the NFL.     His lack of cooperation is part of the reason this investigation took as long as it did.

I'll add this last thought...........  Colts better be ready for their game with New England.   It will have a HUGE tv audience and if the Pats could put up 100 points against us,  they absolutely will.     They could have 75 points by half and Brady will come back out to play.....

This will be the pay-back game of all pay-back games..........  :hide:           :peek:

If he doesn't miss any games, there will be an uproar.

There's always something for people to uproar about. I still can't believe Tagliabue overturned the Bountygate player suspensions. He basically said 'yeah, they did this, but the punishment seems too harsh and I'm not authorized to reduce it, so let's just get rid of it altogether.' So who knows what will happen with the Brady appeal...

No one seriously belives that Belichik has anything to do wityh acquiring or preparing footballs.

Its far from his job. This isnt high school

why do you insist on speaking for everyone?  By the way, Bill's job is about winning games...this may have helped them win games.  I have no idea if he was involved or not but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility that he at the very least was aware.

Do you not think the appeal will happen before pre-season?

Yes.....I;m sure it will be soon...The NFLPA defends druggies..wife beaters and child beaters....and they do ti as soon as ther case is closed

They will wail long and hard (and quickly)  for Tom Brady

Brady gets a 4 game suspension.

BRADY SUSPENDED; PATS DOCKED $1M, PICKS

Tom Brady has been suspended four games, and the Patriots will forfeit a first-round pick in 2016 and a fourth-round pick in 2017. New England was also hit with a $1 million fine.

Its just not the job of an NFL cioach to check the footballs befor ethe game or to make sure they are correctly inflated...

You can think so if you want..and you can be upset with me./.....but the investigation cleared belichik...

It is out of the realm of possibility in my opinion

Who knows? The Bountygate suspensions were announced in March, and they weren't overturned until December. Meantime, all the players were still on the field, and wound up doing zero time.

He should have still been suspended whether he knew or not

Ok, he's been suspended 4 games. We can all now move on with our lives and thank the random number generator for finally spitting out the number of games he would be suspended.

Has anyone noticed that yes he's suspended but IRONICALLY. His game back is vs the Colts lol how cute is that sure this isn't a ratings thing now..

Noticed and I really could not care any less. He was going to return sooner or later.

Little different deal here. I think he appeals and it goes down to 2 games. He might not choose to make a huge issue as it might just be an appeal and go to an arbitrator. Likey would end up at 2...

That seems like common sense, but I don't know. The Bountygate deal made zero sense at the end of the day.

The Brady suspension is fair...and the cash fine is just. ...I think a No,.1 draft chioce is very stiff..actually...

The NFL penalzed the player AND the organization. They took this very seriously

no 1 draft pick was fair - The penalties are well deserved with the prior history taken into consideration as well as the organizations lack of cooperation .

You can make that arguement........that's a good point

But an NFL head coach doesnt deal with the footballs....the quarterback does..

the investigation cleared Belichik..  So I praise the investigation and the penalty on its face and I dont think they were wrong on Belichik

    • I couldn't agree more with the bolded statement.  Once a player is on the team, the only thing his draft position does for him (aside from the money) is maybe give him a little more time to develop.  Mainly because teams are reluctant to admit that their research didn't pan out and they want to see their guy succeed.   As far as defense, I feel the number one responsibility of the GM and the coach is to help the franchise QB be the franchise QB, if you get what I mean.  And until that's proven, if it means sacrificing a need on defense in order to enhance the QB's arsenal, so be it.  But that's just me...
    • Yeah I didn’t get the impression he felt a huge need to draft a CB.    He was asked about mentioning YAC guys and he said every team wants them. The Colts have had meetings with the two top YAC guys in the draft - Brock Bowers and Malachi Corley. I absolutely think we’re taking Bowers if he falls to us and I even think we may jump up a couple of picks to land him.    If Bowers gets taken ahead of us I feel pretty certain we’re trading back hoping to land another 3rd rounder.    I didn’t catch if they were talking about draft targets or players already on the roster when they talked about on dimensional guys? My initial thought was Pierce.    I think it’s a given we’re taking at least one Olineman this draft, but that’s not really anything new.
    • My guesses based on this presser:   - Ballard will NOT draft a CB in the 1st... maybe at all? Everything he's saying seems to suggest he likes the group we have and he wants to see them play and have a chance to develop. I'm almost certain if Mitchell for example is there at 15... we pass on him... either for trade back or for an offensive weapon... or DE? - Ballard WILL trade back. If not in the 1st... then later in the draft... but most probably in the 1st. IMO he pretty much advertised to his potential customers by telling them how many 1st round grades he has. Teams 19-21 are welcome to call and will receive warm greetings from Ballard. Rams, Steelers, Dolphins?  - He seemed to be talking about a specific someone one dimensional offensive weapon when he was talking about them just having had a meeting about a certain player... about whether them and the coaching staff see the way he can be used the same way... and if they agree on this, IMO this is a potential target for the Colts. The names that come to mind - Brian Thomas Jr and Xavier Worthy... A lot of the other WRs are more well rounded...  - The Colts LOVE the OL class both at the top and in depth. I have seen some OL experts suggest there might be 10 starting centers in this draft... and the OTs class in the 1st is like nothing I've ever seen. Can we draft an OL in the 1st? Doubt it... but absolutely expect a few shots on day 2 and 3.
    • We have TWO top 10 tackles in Raimann and Smith though? We need depth, sure, but I hope we’re not looking for depth in the 1st round…
    • True, but where they were drafted has no relevance to how they play now which is what would keep a team from drafting Bowers.    I’d like if we got another weapon for AR, but I feel we have a lot of needs - especially on defense. OL is probably the only choice I’d be really disappointed with.
