After the fallout of yesterday's Jets/Giants game, there was a story about the Jets that focused on Sanchez as the long term option

Sanchez had a terrible game yesterday and his errors cost the team a win.

However, there are times when he is able to get his act together and win.

Also, there have been reports about the offensive coordinator and Sanchez not being on the same page with each other.

So, is Sanchez a bad QB or in a bad system?

Ohhhh c'mon. He's not terrible. He's not great....but terrible? I hate the Jets as well but try to set aside your bias.

Sanchez is pretty bad...really bad. Definitely nowhere near the 5th overall pick. He simply hasn't progressed. He makes poor reads and decisions and is ridiculously inconsistent. I don't consider him to be a franchise QB

On Sanchez if they game planned to his strengths rather than forcing him to be a conservative pocket passer he might fare well.

I think he will be around for awhile and do some damage whether it be on the Jets or not.

sometimes he plays really really well and sometimes he just flat out sucks. He played really well in the past 2 post seasons. I think it also has to do with the lack of a running game. 1st in 2009, 4th in 2010, 22nd this year. Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Brees all elite QBs can carry their team on their arm but Sanchez isn't an elite QB in my eyes and will struggle trying to carry the team.

while i dont consider sanchez even remotely elite, hes not terrible. hes a good qb, but isnt the type of qb that can carry your team. he needs a strong running game to be effective so he kill you with the play action and since the jets running game has suffered this year, so has sanchez

This is what happens when you dump all this media and expectations on a young kid. Add in an overzealous coach and a selfish coaching staff with selfish players, that's not helping out a young QB. They're very talented, but chemistry is very important, ask the Eagles. Here's the thing though, what are his strengths, does he want to have a Matt Hasselbeck situation where they go 65-35 run heavy, or when they have a balanced offense or when they have a pass heavy offense like Manning, Brady, Brees and Rodgers. He's played in many games like that, and he's lost a lot of them. He only does well, when the defense is on and the running game is good. That's not what you call a great QB, but the QB gets all the credit so some portray him as a good QB. If he went on a team with a bad defense, he would go 7-9, year in and year out. You said play to his strengths, but what are his strengths. He can't read offenses for his life and his decision making is terrible, so once you find something stick with it. Too bad there isn't anything.

Now, I don't know if you're joking or serious, but I base my analysis and judgements from what I see on the field and on the scoresheet, not from a stupid video game.

Let me get that straight. I take in account the total yards, but I also look at the touchdowns given, turnover differential and the TOP the other team has gotten against that defense. So yes, I base some of my judgement on the total yards, but it's only 15% of what I base my judgement on.

I might go along with the 15% for yards but it's not on the scoreboard so I'd still lean to 0%.

Key stops and turnovers at the right time add to that net takeaway stat which I agree is big.

In NE's case,who plays defense just that way,I'll add they were built to play 60 min and thats what makes them good. Like our Miami game. I knew they couldn't keep that up for 60 min and we'd win if we held them at 17. Which we did. Key is NE's defense lets you go all over them the first couple series (sometimes too much:) and then once they see what you're doing adjust and if the adjustment shows promise, attack with it until or if you can re-adjust. That's a fact. Thats why I put NE defense as good.

Sanchez has not improved over the past three years, so no, I don't see him lasting as a starter for more than another year or so at most.

Sanchez hasn't always been good with a top notch running game. In 2009, where you list that the Jets had the best running game in the NFL, Sanchez was awful, throwing 12 TDs to 20 INTs IIRC and having a completion % right around 50.

They try to adapt Mark Sanchez to a west coast like passing offense while he may be better suited to the offense being opened up to 20-30 yard passes, IMO. I was never sold on the playcalling of the Jets' OC. I can honestly say Sanchez is underutilized. However, I do agree that beyond the first or second read, he has a hard time reading Ds quickly, and needs to be coached up. He needs a good offensive mind like Norv Turner as OC to help him, to be honest. Schottenheimer obviously is not getting it done.

I agree. Schotty doesn't seem like a solid coordinator. And the addition of Tom Moore hasn't helped them either. What kind of offense did Sanchez play in at USC?

Sanchez is hard to figure out. He has above normal number of 4th Qtr comebacks, but at other times he seems out of his element.

I've seen Sanchez play a lot of games, especially since the Jets-Pats have squared off seven times since he came into the league, and my observations of his faults:

- He seems to struggle when his first couple of reads aren't there. Tends to lock on to his primary and doesn't get the defense moving at all with his eyes, head, and body language.

- His arm strength is average.

- He is, at times, wildly inaccurate.

- Every QB benefits from a strong running game, but in Sanchez's case, it seems magnified. Without the ground game, he seems to really struggle if defenses know he's throwing.

I think at least some of the Jets' offensive woes are due to Schottenheimer. If the Jets finish 8-8 or 9-7 and miss the playoffs, I can't see how they continue with their current OC. Especially since Ryan is more of a defense guy.
