Mock Draftable chart: http://mockdraftable.com/player/4976/

Games watched: vs FSU, vs Clemson, vs Syracuse

The Good:

Unlike Peters he actually backpedals (and does it extremely well).

No wasted steps in his motion.

Very smart player. Great play-recognition.

Doesn't get lazy in his zones (looking at you Peters).

Mirroring skills are incredible. He is a technician. Footwork is sensational.

Hips are extremely fluid. Good turn and run ability.

Does a fantastic job of tracking and locating the ball in the air.

Subtle pushes and physicality down the field. Does a good job of pushing the WR to the boundary.

Not afraid to get physical and lay a big hit.

Great lateral agility and closing burst.

Excellent ball-skills. Soft hands to make the pick.

Reads the QBs eyes and breaks on the ball.

The Bad:

Slender frame, small hands, small arms. Probably not going to be shedding many blockers at the next level.

Average long-speed and acceleration.

Grabby downfield.

Doesn't press at the line. Played a strictly off-man scheme at Wake Forest.

Conclusion:

Johnson is, in my opinion, clearly the best cover-corner in this draft class. He doesn't have the upside of a player like Darby, or the natural ability of Peters, but he's a technician who can be a very high-quality player in the league. I really like as a player, but I doubt Grigson and Pagano would use a high draft pick on a player who doesn't fit their idea of what the ideal corner is in their defense (big, physical press-corners) even though I think he's fit just fine.

Projected Round: 1st
