Did Roger Goodell direct Winston to stay home on Draft Day?

Many have wondered why a likely top draft pick will not be present when his name is announced on Draft Day. Could it be that Goodell asked Winston to stay away?

I'm going to guess if this has any merit to it, that Goodell doesn't want Winston to show up because Winston threatened to do or not to do something on draft day that would embarrass Goodell and the NFL. He probably would refuse to shake the Commish's hand or he would say something incredibly stupid. Winston probably already told the commish what he had planned and they got into a disagreement during their private meeting.

 

I'm just speculating at this point, but it's probably somewhat close to the truth if it's indeed the case that Goodell doesn't want him to show up. With his immaturity issues, I wouldn't put it past Winston.

MTE! I don't believe this was Winston’s decision. He strikes me as someone who enjoys the attention and adulation from fans. He would not choose to stay away. JMO.

Goddell doenst want the embarrassment of the No,1 pick in the draft NOT being at the draft after they have been for decades..

That would highlight the 'riskiness;' of Winston's behavior..

My guess would be that Winston wanted to talk to Goddell, in part, to tell him face to face that he wouldn't be coming to the draft.

I may be in the minority here.....but I think its a good sign about Winston and his future.

that he wanted to speak with Goddell privately...maybe separate rumor from fact and vow to stay on the right side of the law.

I've heard he's a bit of a charmer and a charismatic guy...maybe he's a con man..I don't know

but the young man does seem to realize he may need friends in high places in the years to come.

That's a possibility as well, but I've seen people get booed. Andrew Luck got booed because so many people wanted to see RGIII get drafted at the time that they booed Luck. It's not the same thing obviously, but my point is that they can pretend booing never happened at the draft. At the combine, people spoke glowingly of him. He gave several interviews. Many said he came across as very bright. There were no reports that he did anything to embarrass himself or the NFL. I would think he would be on his best behavior at the draft. If he is going to misbehave, it will happen, whether at the draft or while playing for an NFL team.

...the only reason to be in Chicago would be to shake Goddell's hand for a photo opportunity and he may simply want to be different..

Which is 100% his opinion.  He also said that the Eagles should sign Bradford to a new deal with a no-trade clause so the media wouldn't speculate on Mariota anymore.  I guess what I'm trying to say is, I often disagree with his opinions.

Not sure if this will matter, but this year's draft is in Chicago, not Radio City Music Hall. It's possible that the rowdy element from Jets/Giants fans won't be an issue this year. But there's no telling.
