*Official* FA Tampering Window Thread.

I thought it was tomorrow afternoon?

Even so, I'm excited for this FA period.

I think you're right. For some reason, the article I looked at was titled that it started at midnight, but when I clicked the link it actually said noon. Weird.

Luck. And by that I mean Andrew and actual luck.

And that's how much you know about football.

You honestly think we've won 36 games the last three years due to Andrew Luck and luck.....

Ryan Grigson w/ cap space, what could go wrong? Everything

I guess your memory is very poor. His first draft got him the GM of the year. He performed a masterpiece with his first draft with huge dead cap space. He has replaced 48 players in three years. His team has advanced deeper into the playoffs each season. You say Luck and luck? I don't care how good luck is he didn't do it all by himself. No QB does. As far as luck every team that makes the playoffs has some of that throughout the season. Did the Seahawks have luck making the super bowl? Did the Patriots have luck in the super bowl? Is it possible for you to actually think about some of the comments you make? I think a lot of us Colts fans would feel real lucky if you could make a comment that made sense.

I am anxious to see what the offers are for McCourty. My only hope is that he does not go to a division rival if he does in fact leave. Have to believe he will take any offers to the Pats to see if they will either match or come close to matching but I am not hopeful. I don't think Bill sees spending $8-10 mil on a safety as a good value prop.

I agree with you but we all know it wasn't luck that the Patriots got to big dance, it was "cheating" , again and krafts money to save them...

Bruh.  Really?  For as great as he is, Luck has also cost the team games as well.  I love that we have him, wouldn't want anyone besides Luck, but we didn't make it to the AFCCG with Luck beating Denver all by his self.  The Defense tore up Peyton.  Thats just one example.

Stop trying so hard to be so negative, you come off as ignorant, a malcontent and juvenile.

Grigs has made bonehead decisions, but so has every other GM and for only being on the job for 4-5 years and getting to the AFCCG; not too dang bad if you ask me.

He wasn't referring to the draft. He was talking free agency....where Grigson has made very questionable moves.

To be fair, a large part of that win total is on Andrew. Not saying that it's just about one guy, but I do think this team would've gone below .500 last season without him.

Some haven't worked out. Some have. Some of it was out of the control of the GM. I'm not an apologist but I think he's done a pretty fair job in FA. If Don Thomas doesn't get hurt 2 years in a row we might be talking about what a great deal he was. If Cherilus hadn't played hurt most of this season I think we all are saying that Cherilus was a good pick up. The thing that Grigson has done well is that he's structured contracts so that if they player doesn't work out we can cut them without a lot of dead cap. Calculating risk

I must agree with you there. He's a special type, much like Peyton and that pretty boy in Foxboro who makes their teammates better

Mods. lock this or delete this thread and start again. This thread should be about anticipation of 1/2 hour from now, calls start coming in and rumors leaked and yet here we are talking about how Griggs will mess this up and others defending him. Delete this or lock it and lets start again

But those guys had extensive injury histories. He knew that when he signed them.

Btw guys, don't expect to hear anything ground-breaking today. The biggest news will probably be cuts (Ngata) and re-signings. Don't expect to hear about any handshake deals.

Cherilus was a risk because of his known knee problems

While I liked the Thomas signing, I thought it was insane not to pick up another veteran guard this off season in case of another Thomas injury.

Grigson do a fine job in the way he had the contracts structured, I wish he would have chosen better/more proven players. I this year's FA market is big for Grigson....he can't have as many whiffs.

Bummer. When do the handshake deals start leaking out?

I guess we'd have to go back and look to see who else was available at the time he signed those guys and if there were other options that fit our scheme. I know Cherilus had knee issues. I think the first year he was here he did a fine job. This year he struggled and I think he was not 100% most of the year. I think Cherilus was a risk Grigson was willing to take. I believe that even now we could part with Cherilus and save considerable cap space if that's the direction they want to go. But, I understand, I don't like taking risks on guys who you know have issues staying healthy. But, there's a reason they weren't re-signed by their own team.

I think I have had the (dis)pleasure of reading all 107 of your posts.  Pretty sure all of them have been in same bad neighborhood of this one.

Couldn't agree more. Take your unrelated debates elsewhere, please.

    • They have contributed as much their rookie year as the entire group maybe by end of the season, but I doubt there's even a tiny chance of 2 all pros. Even 1 is a major stretch.  I am not sure we have any all pro's on the team since the most deserving one is Buckner (who I count as our first round pick in every way) has impact but no stats to wow anyone not intimately aware of his impact. If he misses this game we may painfully see how valuable.  But their collective impact has certainly added up. 4 starters and 2 solid special teamers in a so far playoff level team is quite a haul for any draft pick class in history.  It is at least adjacent to 2018, unless you don't count Buckner in any way.
    • Nothing against you and I like you as a poster but counting Ballard's 2017 season is a stretch. I realize he was the GM that year (1st year) but he didn't have the Coach he wanted and Luck was out for the year. We went 4-12 that year so his record is a bit skewed because of that. Others have posted the same thing about Ballard's record so you are not the only one and I just don't see how anyone can count that season legitimately. I pretty much go by 2018-this year when he hired Frank and his record would be 25-19 counting the playoffs. Is he the best GM in the league, probably not but he is good. He is responsible for drafting Nelson, Leonard, Mack, signing Houston, signing Rivers and trading for Buckner = great work there. Luck just retiring on the team and McDaniels dissing him even made his job that much harder.
    • I am late to the party but it doesn't matter because I would've been 1-1 anyway. I had the Lions and Washington so it offsets     Here are my Sunday picks/Monday pick: Ravens 17 Steelers 24 Chargers 19 Bills 27 Titans 27 Colts 30 Panthers 20 Vikings 21 Browns 27 Jags 17 Giants 24 Bengals 10 Cards 27 Pats 23 Dolphins 99 Jets 0 (Fluke's original quote) Saints 24 Broncos 13 49ers 17 Rams 30 Chiefs 34 Bucs 24 Bears 17 Packers 27 Seahawks 31 Eagles 17
    • Yes, love the limited stuff from Harris. I really want to see more routes from him, but overall, love what he's doing. I'd love for him to be a long term answer at slot if Campbell moves to Z.    I'm up in the air on specs. I need to see him hit some long ones, as well as some additional clutch kicks. Glasgow, like I said, I just don't expect much from. Doubt he's ever a contributor on D, but if he kills it on ST, I'm happy.    A buddy of mine (a Ball State grad/fan), thinks Pinter develops into a RT, and the Colts will eventually move Smith over to LT (when AC retires), and let Pinter take RT. I don't know about all that, but I do agree Pinter might develop into more than we think.    I think Pittman will develop into a long term and consistent WR for us. I know he's just starting to emerge, but he just has the look. Good/willing blocker, good hands, etc.. He might not be the 50/50 guy I want, but I also think he might be better at in-stride catching than I thought.    JT, I think he'll be fine once he gets acclimated and use to the run blocking scheme. I don't want to diminish his talent, but most RBs should be able to be successful behind our OL, and he's better than most.    Blackmon is the most interesting to me. He's always been a hammer which I love. He's struggled though in coverage in college, and as we saw, got burnt deep a few games ago. Not sure if he's too aggressive forward, or just struggles with coverage and range. I hope it's just aggressiveness. It definitely helped him when they moved him from CB to S in college, but at the same time, Utah ran a ton of man, which we do not. Love most of what I've seen thus far. I just hope it's not a case where teams get film on him, and start testing him deep a lot. We've been fortunate to play some bad Os early that simply don't go deep a bunch. Will be interesting to follow.
    • It's Rivers he will play, the dude is made of steel  . He played with a torn ACL.
