The Saints are crazy

But at the same time, I wonder if we'd even be having this discussion if the Saints had not choked away those 4 close games last year.

Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, and San Francisco.

Winning cures everything at times even if the win is ugly. You all could have won the division until late in the season too. And yes NO did lose some close games.......so just based on some of those losses I do want to see how they do this year before I completely nuke them.

BTW ignore some comments that say to go to a Saints forum and all that. I take it many have not seen many Saints fans in action going conspiracy on the NFL.

I think aliens will be next in line to blame for a Saints loss.

BTW I still remember one Saints fan after the Jets loss in 2013 on those forums. The guy literally accused Jets fans of blinding Brees with mirrors when he was on the field. lmao lmao lmao

I don't that it's all as bad as the OP lays out. The Saints still have an extremely talented roster: most people in the league had them 2nd or 3rd best roster in the league last preseason. The salary cap issues are simply a product of trying to stay a contender for as long as they have been but that can be overcome - a few simple restructures and cutting a couple of dead-weight players can put them $10 million under the cap pretty easily and with a minimal personnel turnover.

They have some definite issues: #2 corner, inside linebacker, interior OL - but more than anything they have a lot of very young players on defense that got big-headed after a very good 2013 season. In some sense the whole team had a "sophomore slump" if that makes any sense. Yes, Brees is not exactly what he used to be but he's still very, very good.

If they can address the center-guard situation, find a #2 corner in free agency and get some youth in the middle of the o-line they can put themselves right back at the top of the division. I could see them going 10-6 or 11-5 next season. I could also see them going another 7-9 or 6-10 season but given Payton's track record I think the odds are better that they rebound and have a good season. Do I think they're a Super Bowl contender, no absolutely not right now. But they should be a playoff team.

As a fan of both Saints and Colts I see no reason for there to be any kind of animosity. XLIV was over 5 years ago. If you're still hanging on to a grudge over some dumb stuff somebody said on a message board 5 years ago you have some significant psychological issues.

BREAKING: NFL team does not have a complete roster in early March. More at 10.

I agree. No, they aren't perfect, but this is when team building happens. Complain in May if the roster still looks bad.

Byrd was a huge mistake. Before he got injured, he did nothing. I don't expect him to do much next year.

Do you even watch your own favorite team?

Byrd played all of....    (wait for it)    four games.     FOUR!

And statistically speaking,  he was on his way to one of his best seasons....   85-90 tackles.

You write a guy off after four games and now,  he's had a knee injury, you proclaim is probably won't do much this year.

He might not.     But you won't be right because you know what you're talking about.....    you're amazing....

"I am not going to compare Brees to Brady or Manning because I don't think that's fair when studying a team".

I don't know, he has the same pin ball numbers that Manning has and has the same number of super bowl wins. A case can be made that Brees and Manning compare in many MANY ways..

Yes he does watch his own team and knows what he is talking about. Every week last year he gave me a prediction or hunch on the Saints. He was 14-2 predicting them based on my calculations.

Your ramblings to him are irrelevant.

That's great.....   but your best friend here makes lots of posts that have no basis in fact or reality.

Judging by the posts he makes he doesn't watch or know football at all.

    • That would be a typical Falcon move... Lol !   Verse is a nice player but to me you absolutely take the player from Alabama who's a one man wrecking crew.   The SEC is a much tougher conference as well.  No disrespect to FSU which is playing in a much softer conference.   However, if the Falcons bit on Verse, Turner could fall to 15.
    • I don’t think he’s fairly being judged here. There’s been reports every single year that we were the high bidder and yet lost out. I truly think most of that comes down to the fact we really don’t have much to offer in terms of things not counting as salary. No franchise QB proven yet, no bikini clad babes or beaches, income tax etc.
    • I have macro, philosophical pushback, which is basically covered in this article: "The draft is an absolute petri dish for every cognitive bias underneath the sun." "Teams massively overestimate their abilities to delineate between stars and flops, and because of that they overvalue the 'right to choose' in the draft." "'I firmly do not believe you trade a high pick, which is going to be a difference-maker, in order to pick up two picks,' he (Polian) said. "But that's the issue, one former NFL executive pointed out. That logic assumes the player you're initially picking will actually become a difference-maker." "'The problem for everyone in sports is that nobody wants to admit how random and arbitrary it is,' the former NFL executive said. 'Admitting that it's arbitrary takes away from your specific abilities.'" So my pushback is that talking yourself into a specific player is inherently risky. Ask the Panthers. Doesn't mean you can't be right, but I think if you analyze the results of trade-ups for prospects, there's no consistent success. You can tell me all day long that MHJ and Nabers are the best prospects of the last five years -- and I don't necessarily disagree -- but the truth is that no one really knows what they'll become in the NFL. And the way we talk about our favorite prospects doesn't accurately reflect that reality. We're all guilty at times of talking about these guys like they're locks, but history tells us that anyone can bust, at any spot in the draft.   My more specific pushback is that I think the way this year's draft is expected to go at the top will result in the Colts still having a great menu of options available at #15, and they can still get a prospect they really like who has playmaker potential without trading up. Especially if you're eyeing a WR. So as much as I would love to have one of the top three receivers, I don't see the value in moving up this year. (And I'll admit a personal bias: I love Brian Thomas Jr, and think we'd be in great shape if we drafted him at #15.)
    • Chuck is still around, Adam V still has land in the area as far as I know, Andrew still has a place, Reggie has obviously stayed. Also seems like our old players love any chance to come back for events.    I mean it’s not the most stunning state in natural beauty, but there are some really nice locations if a person is willing to look for them.
    • The whole notion that players don’t like Indianapolis is ridiculous.  Several choose to settle in Indy after their careers are over if they spent any time with the Colts.
