Super Bowl game thread

To me, it showed the resilience of the Seahawks offense, an underrated aspect, to be honest. That Richard Mathews guy came out of nowhere to almost upset the apple cart. He could have been MVP if he caught that last pass that was intended for him.

31 seconds before the half and 3 timeouts, they score a TD, are you kidding me? That is why it is hard to put the Seahawks away, have to play 60 minutes.

The same 31 seconds and 2 timeouts for John Fox and the Broncos after a Jacoby Jones hail mary from Joe Flacco, John Fox asks Peyton to take a knee???  You never win the lottery if you don't play and having the confidence from a coach and QB is half the battle to go for it with 6 seconds to go and no timeouts.

He lost games which is something Bradshaw & Montana never did in their runs... and there is nothing tainted about those runs either.

No, the pats lost a couple and the Niners didn't. It's a team sport

So Brady's status as GOAT was dependent on whether or not the Seattle offense could pick up 1 yard?

Not really. Another gamewinning drive in a SB.

4 SB titles in 6 tries (been to more SBs than anyone) with 3 SB MVPs, insane stats. He's got it all.

I don't think we'll have the room for Marshawn. We're making Andrew Luck the highest paid QB, or something, and I heard Marshawn will command a big contract.

W-Wait, that was #13 Mathews they threw to!? Oh sure, at the 1-yd line let's have an undrafted free agent be our go-to receiver on one of the final plays of the Superbowl instead of running with Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynche. Now the play call makes even less sense!

So if Seattle gives the ball to Lynch and they score and New England loses, is Brady still the GOAT based on what happened tonight?

Given that this Seattle team got out played for 55 minutes vs GB where they committed 5 turnovers, I can say it with a straight face, they were lucky to be here. New England got a lesser foe. GB was the real NFC powerhouse that should have been in the SB.

I agree. Belichick's recent record in the playoffs against teams that have played him already is 10-8 while it is 10-0 against teams that have not played them in the regular season.

Losses since 2004 for the Patriots - 2005 Broncos, 2006 Colts, 2007 Giants, 2009 Ravens, 2010 Jets, 2011 Giants, 2012 Ravens, 2013 Broncos were all teams that played them in the regular season that the Pats lost to. That is why the Packers would have been more dangerous for the Patriots, I felt.

Yeah - never lost a SB.  And the game was tougher then.  Less rules to protect the QB.

When you go 1 and out, you don't lose in the SB ;)

Poor argument. He went to more Super Bowls than Montana. Getting to the SB > getting knocked out in the playoffs, i.e. not making the SB (like Montana did).

What? Look at Montana's stats in the big game...

83 122 68.0 1,142 11 0 127.8 W/L Record 4-0

Brady up until tonight because I haven't checked the stats. Brady will also be the first ever Super Bowl MVP winning qb to be suspended the next season too... We shall call him Tom ter-tainted.

127 197 1277 9 2

The stats are from different sites so they look different, and this forum doesn't show them right for whatever reason.

Montana is a has been?!?    You really shouldn't try to use words you clearly don't understand.

Montana is.....   retired.      And if you don't know the difference between the two you should either look it up,  or ask someone smarter than you.   (which would be most everybody)

Congrats to Brady.    He was great when he had to be.

Marshawn is a one-of-a-kind beast. He'd immediately change our team and could even bring us over the Pats hump.

He would have to be released or traded for that to happen. He has one more year on his contract.

Sure, but we are talking about quarterbacks not teams as you could have seen by those post on who was the greatest.

If Dwight Clarke doesn't make the catch is Montana GOAT? I can play that game too. It's obviously another play, because Montana made the play, but the point is: it doesn't matter if it's one play.

Get a clue and stop hating on Brady so much. Listen folks, to lose a SB you have to get there. Montana played in less SBs. Brady has the same amount of Super Bowl wins and more conference championships. That's how people should look at it. Add the career stats. Brady is simply the best.

Crazy ending........

Great game though. Heck I even loved the halftime show and I hate Katy Perry's voice. But, that was a good show.

I think Katy Perry was sexy enough without being skanky. Beyonce to me was the exact opposite a few years ago......

Janet Jackson though LOL........that was funny I do admit.

Besides, I love that big Lion she came out on tonight. lmao lmao

Agreed :)  No skanky stuff in this year's halftime show was nice for a change.  I was afraid Miley Cyrus might come swinging in on a wrecking ball when Katy Perry was up in the air.  Thankfully that didn't happen.

They handed off to Lynch a play before that happened and he got stopped.

No guarantee that he punches that in.

NO... he dove short so they could kill time on the clock... that's what happened. He could have gone all the way in. they would've had 3 more chances to get a half a yard. With Lynch I dont think there is a doubt in anyone's mind he would have got it!!!

Depends on who you ask.... Now tho, there is no debate. Brady has his 4th ring, period. Its hard to argue against him being the greatest ever now.

Your opinion is none of our business.

If you're expecting a "congratulations," you won't get one as one is not due because there's an * next to the Lombardi (as with the other ones).

    • LOL. Did you watch any of the games last season?   Also, Okereke is 6-1, 235 lbs, basically the same size as Patrick Willis and Luke Keuchly, except with longer arms and also runs a 4.58 40. I’d take the increased arm length and athleticism over 0.25 centimeters in height any day.
    • I think S depth may trump OL depth right now.  Hooker's battled injuries most of his career and the fact he wasn't extended and given some of Ballard's pressers (basically saying Hooker's play dropped off throughout the year in 2019 and he wasn't playing to his level of expectations) and the fact we drafted Blackmon in Rd 3 lead me to believe the FO/Coaching Staff is getting ready to move on from him.     Willis played well as a rookie, but I still see him as a guy who is just about at his ceiling given his limited athleticism.  Rutledge looks like a playmaker but he went undrafted for a reason and he's a rookie coming from a small school, so it'd be hard to expect him to adjust to the NFL right away, especially given this weird off season.  I like Odum more as a STer than a full-time starting safety should we have an injury to Hooker or Willis. Then Tell, while I don't blame him, opting out, IMO, was a big blow to our entire secondary as he was developing nicely at CB but has the versatility to play S if needed (I don't know any of our current corners have that ability, maybe Rhodes).     OL depth is still concerning, but it sounds like Pinter is really impressing coaches as a rookie and I think Clark is versatile enough to be a solid stop gap at G or T if needed.  Hopefully Patterson is back to full health as a backup C (sounds like Big Q or Pinter would be next in line at C if needed).  I guess, I think we're so strong with our starting OL (with Glowinski being the weak link, but not really that weak of a link) that I feel like a single replacement there would not be as devastating to one of our starting S going down right now.  Regardless, it'd be nice to have a few more guys competing across the OL.
    • It has to be odd signing FAs now, since teams aren't allowed to work them out.  I guess one would hope that these guys have been keeping themselves in shape throughout the offseason, but it'd still be nice to be able to work them out before signing them.   Safety now is, IMO, the team's biggest concern.  I think we're fine w/ Hooker and Willis as starters, though Hooker's had injury issues throughout his time in the NFL (and prior).  I like Odum, but like him more as a STer than a guy we have to rely on being a starter for an extended time if one of our top 2 go down.  Then Blackmon is still on the injured list, and I don't expect him to be full strength to the middle of the season (if not later).  The UDFA, Rutledge, was a playmaker but from a small school and went undrafted for a reason, so I'm not too sure that we should expect anything out of him in terms of being reliable if he had to play a lot of minutes.   Geathers is still a FA and I know Ballard really seemed to like him.  I'm wondering if him not being signed or brought up in discussion is a health issue (i.e., can't pass a physical), a major health concern (given his injury history), demanding too much $, or if the team has simply moved on from him.    Personally, I like the fact we're looking at Tavon Wilson, he's a former 2nd round draft pick who had his best NFL year last season, starting 13 games in Detroit and recording 98 tackles, 2 fumble recovers and 5 passes defended.
    • So someone infected coughs in your face but you can’t catch the virus from them because they didn’t cough in your face for the contractually obligated 15 minutes it takes to infect...
    • R u counting the # of times an offensive linemen or tight end locks on him and drives him 10 yards down the field?  I know I am being a smart ... and I apologize. Our linebacking core is light and there is no getting around that.  Opposing te's are bigger than out lb core.  It is the weakness of this D philosophy. The lbers in this D tend to b drafted on their ability to defend the pass. Okereke looks like a stud against the pass. However, he like Leonard, is basically a safety playing lber. Just my opinion.
