We all know the outstanding season he had, perfect until he missed a field goal in the last game of the regular season. However, ever since that game (which happened to he his 42nd birthday), he has been very inconsistent. He was perfect against Cincy, but against Denver he was 1/2. Against New England, he was 0/1. And this week at the Pro Bowl, he was 2/3 on FGs and 1/3 on PATs (although the distances and size of the goalposts were altered). Is this nothing to worry about? Or should we keep an extra kicker in for training camp?

I still think Pat McAfee is going to be a dual threat as punter and kicker (or triple threat if you count kickoffs, too) when AV decides to hang them up.  I don't think we have much need to worry about AV at this point in time.  Like BrentMc said, he'll know best when it's time for him to hang them up.  If for some reason he starts struggling mid-season next year, we've got Pat on board.

On a side not, I found it interesting Cody Parkey (who we brought in during training camp and released) was the other probowl kicker.

Parkey was traded to the Eagles.

Oh, shucks -- we traded him for David Fluellen who isn't around anymore. I forgot we traded him, I thought we released him, but when you mentioned that I was hoping we'd be getting a decent draft pick out of it. Oh well.

Yeah. If thr colts will trade, Grigson shouldn't take the risk of trading for a player, he should trade for a draft pick. It is more valuable.

This was the move that doomed our season.... surprised Grigson wasn't fired for it.*

You're assuming that a team would be willing to trade a draft pick for an UDFA rookie kicker

The Patriots miss was a horrible call by our coach given the weather conditions.  I doubt many kickers in the league would have nailed that kick.  Using the pro bowl misses is a joke as well since they made rule changes for just that game.

It would be like pointing out a DB did not have a good game in the Pro Bowl since the rules are so slanted for offense or pass rusher not getting a sack since they can barely breath on a QB in the regular season let alone the Pro Bowl.

The guy was great all season and there will be some misses near the end of the season.

Nobody's overreacting over anything. It's just a recent trend, and I want to see what others think. No need to be so harsh over such a small thing.

First of all that was hardly harsh.  There is nothing wrong with seeing what others think but that also includes those think it's silly to get concerned because of an all-star game with experimental rules and a game he's kicking without his long snapper, line, and holder he's had all season, and yes those things do matter to kickers.

As for his late season misses the only reason they get people's attention at all is that he had been perfect up until the Titans game.  He missed three kicks, all outdoors all from beyond 40 yards.  One of those kicks, the New England game, probably shouldn't have been tried given the conditions and length.

If you look back at Adam's career he tends to have rough patches at some point during his season and he had a little bit of a one late in the season.  Timing stinks but it's really nothing to be concerned about given how Adam's career has gone.  Adam ended up 35 of 38 for the season including 7 of 10 in the last four games.  He's fine.

I was surprised to see Adam miss 3 FGs in the ProBowl so uncharacteristic of him, but then I reminded myself the posts were moved closer together & he would have been good on 2 of those misses.

Adam is awesome. He's perfectly fine. He's not a machine man, but 98% of the time he's money in the bank. Keep Adam right where he is. He knows his body. He's not washed up that's ridiculous.
