2015 Divisional Round

Just realized that this years divisional round actually represents all the divisions in football

 

AFC

 

Pats- East

Denver- West

Colts-South

Ravens- North

 

NFC

Dallas-East

Seattle-West

Carolina-South

Packers- North

 

And also we have the same match ups in both conferences:

 

East vs North

South vs West

The NFL has permanent divisions, the wildcard can prevent a 12-4 team from making missing the playoffs because they're in a division with a 13-3 team or a 12-4 team that wins the division based on the 2nd or third tiebreaker. 

 

I wonder if the soccer system of moving teams to a lesser division would be good for the NFL? Only teams in the championship division can play in the Super Bowl.  Would probably not be popular with the owners, but would increase competition to sign the best players to avoid being booted down to the minor league until they improve.  It could increase the number of teams affiliated with the NFL.
