RBs in this coming draft

Recommended Posts

That's interesting, I've seen him in the 2nd and 3rd wherever I've looked. I'd love to get him after the 2nd if possible.

I don't look at the online boards yet that is what was reported in a local paper . Anytime a IU player has a chance at getting drafted it's big local news .

Whoever is available in round 5 or later.  RB, to me, is a plug-and-play position.  You can find nearly anyone and plug them into your system and be fine.  Instead of going after a running back in the early rounds, I would rather invest in some solid offensive linemen.  A great OL will make an average back look very good.  Invest in offensive linemen and you'll get a better reward, in my opinion

All the names that are getting thrown around here are all the top RB's.

After blowing a #1 on Trent,  I don't see us spending a #2 on a RB, when the two top needs on offense are OL and WR.

And beyond that,  there's a long grocery list of defensive needs that have to be addressed.

I see us spending maybe a 4 or 5 on a RB.    You can get a good one there,  but not one that everyone is throwing out here.

Those are the popular names that will be gone by the end of the top 100 players (3 rounds)

This. . . I would go as high as round 4 but my feelings are pretty much exactly the same.

Too many UDFA and late round RB's tearing it up on the field while high round picks drafted over them sit on the bench.

Maybe some time we can draft Olinemen that can actually play well or play at all. lol

Yeah solidifying the O-line will go a long way in helping us run. I want an O-lineman in either round 1 or 2 and a running back in rounds 4 or 5 sounds pretty reasonable. There should be someone with talent left on the board in the mid-rounds as the value at RB is declined.

If we take a running back I want a leveon bell type guy

That low mileage guy to me is Javorius Allen, RB, USC who will certainly be available at the end of round 2 for us. He can be the future cornerstone that Trent could not become.

Good pass catcher, blocker, receiver on top of being an outstanding RB.

Honestly Grigs has only whiffed on one high O-line pick. . . Thornton.  Mewhort has played to expectations and no one has complained about Holmes play *when the coaches have let him play*

I think those are the O-Line picks in the first 4 rounds that Grigs has made.

Yeah I was talking about Khaled Holmes. From what we've seen, he's played well. But is always on the sidelines. We need to draft a Tackle, Guard, and maybe a Center is Khaled doesn't play and if Shipley or Harrison goes down.

Jury is still out on Ulrick John, but I thought he played well in preseason before he got hurt.

Late round guys?

Jeremy Langford

Duke Johnson

David Cobb

Tevin Coleman

Amir Abdullah

The Colts should definitely take a RB in this draft. Just not early. 4th round or later. It's a plug and play position, and anyone would be an upgrade over Trent.

Coleman is the best guy out of that group but he won't be available in the late rounds, he will probably be gone by the end of the 2nd round... Jeremy Langford is probably the guy I would target out of them.

I don't even think Thornton is a whiff. He's a third rounder who didn't have a lot of experience before Illinois, and while he's a specimen, he's raw and needs to improve his technique. I think he's probably behind schedule, but I still think he can be a good lineman. He's probably our most talented/athletic lineman.

Eh I think that's Holmes, That's not to say that Thornton is immobile or as slow as a snail because he isn't but in Holmes 35 snaps...and I know they were only 35 snaps......I thought he clearly picked up and churned his feet much better then Thornton ever has and watching the film I thought that's why he was able to make some of the blocks he made because he is mobile and athletic enough to pick up his feet and keep them driving.

My only fear is the staff trying to have him gain to much weight and limiting his mobility, I'd personally like to see Thornton drop down to around 3110-315lbs at the most and for me that would go for any O Lineman unless they somehow managed to move well at 320+.....

I really honestly wonder if Grigson or Joe Gilbert or whoever it is that wanted to get these bigger o linemen or make them bigger in some cases realized that bigger does not mean stronger and that a 310lb O Lineman can push the pile just as well as a 320lb+ o lineman...and in several cases better

Just my thoughts

If we end up running Holmes at RG for the rest of the year, I'd be intrigued about giving Thornton some work at RT in practice.  I think he has the movement skills and power, along with adequate arms to be a tackle, especially a RT.  Of course, he played all over the line at Illinois, so it might not be that hard of a transition.

A RB? If the Colts draft a running back without fixing the offensive line it makes no difference. IMO both the o-line and d-line needs are far more important than a running back.

Herron and Bradshaw were running through the line pretty well. I think we need someone to replace Cherilus, that can happen in the draft. Also, we can get Iupati in FA.

IMO signing free agents is just a high priced band aid. The running back position is the least of the Colts problems. Games are won in the trenches. They always have been and it will never change. Teams success starts on both lines.

Holmes is up there, too. I think Thornton moves fine and is bigger and stronger than Holmes. Both are good athletes, though.

To the bolded, I don't think anyone associated with professional sports thinks that bigger automatically equals stronger.

    • I would personally like to see more bootlegs, and more throws on the run. AR is SO good at that.   Especially since they love playing out of shotgun so much.
    • Army is playing mistake free football, very impressive so far. One of a handful of unbeaten Group of 5 schools.

    • Once again running out time to put out a complete list of both offense and defensive players and where I have them ranked among their peers.  Common theme from original pre-college Week 1 many of the top players are not even listed or have fallen sharply after around 4 weeks of playing.    2025 NFL Draft QBs Cam Ward - Miami (FL) - Ward’s 3x300 games in a row have earned him 3-straight 90.0+ passing grades.  Jaxson Dart (MISS)  Diego Pavia (Vandy) - after 4 weeks and is R2 in the SEC ahead of Ewers, Manning, Milroe, Nussmeier, and Carson Beck.  Thrown 6 TDs no INTs, recovered 3 teammate fumbles. Ben Wooldridge (Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns) Noah Fiftia (Arizona)  KJ Jefferson (UCF) Tyler Shough (Louisville)  Cam Miller (NDST) Kyle McCord (Syracuse)   2025 NFL Draft OL LG Michael McAninch (Air Force) - After 3 weeks has a 91.7 overall season grade with a 92.4 RB grade.  Proved he can hold up to Baylor didn’t allow any QB pressure. RT Tyler Needham (Rutgers) 6’4” 306-pounds – After 3 weeks been dominant.  On 48 PB snaps only given up 1 QB hurry. LT/RT/OG Grey Zabel (North Dakota State) RT Lucas Scott (Army) 6’3” 305-pounds – After 3 weeks has an 85.2 RB grade.  Figure the Army trains more hand-to-hand combat and could be decent in PB game as well. LG Joshua Gray (Oregon State) LG Donovan Jackson (OSU) - good to see Jackson play again and display his dominance in his return to action. OT Wyatt Milum (West Virginia) RG Luke Kandra (Cincinnati) RG Tate Ratledge (Georgia LT Kelvin Banks Jr (Texas) LG Dylan Fairchild (Georgia) LT Percy Lewis (Auburn) 6’7” 355-pounds – After 4 weeks on 85 snaps has a 78.5 grade as a backup. OC Jake Slaughter (Florida) LT Josh Simmons (OSU)   2025 NFL Draft RBs RB/WR-KR Brashard Smith (Southern Methodist) 5’10” 196 pounds - Smith already has 17 missed tackles, 3rd most among all college RBs. RB Ashton Jeanty (Boise St) 5’9” 215-pounds  RB Quinshon Judkins (OSU) 6’0 219-pounds RB Jonah Coleman (Washington) RB RJ Harvey (UCF) 5’9” 208-pounds RB Ja’Quinden Jackson (Arkansas) 6’2” 233-pounds – Issues fumbling RB Treveyon Henderson (OSU) 5’10” 208 pounds RB Devin Neal (Kansas) 5’11” 215 pounds RB Omarion Hampton (UNC) 6’0” 220 pounds RB Nicholas Singleton (PSU) 6’0” 227 pounds RB Jo’Quavious “Woody” Marks (USC) 5’10 208-pounds   2025 NFL Draft WRs WR-Z Tai Felton (Maryland) WR-X Tre Harris (Mississippi) WR-X Ricky White (UNLV) WR-SL Nick Nash (San Jose State) WR-X Tetairoa McMillian (Arizona) WR-Z Kobe Hudson (UCF) WR-SL Kaedin Robinson (App St) WR-SL Xavier Restrepo Miami (FL) WR-X Andrew Armstrong (Arkansas) WR-M/ST PR-KR Jaylin Noel (Iowa St) WR-X Jayden Higgins (Iowa St) WR-Y Emeka Egbuka (OSU)   2025 NFL Draft TE TE Harold Fannin Jr. (Bowling Green) - outproduced rest of TE class against top 25 ranked teams and single-handedly beat PSU.  Prior to week 4 R1 I total yards (204) and YAC with 131. TE Tyler Warren (PSU) TE Jalin Conyers (Texas Tech) - After 3 weeks has an 83.7 overall PFF grade and with Texas Tech excelling in run-blocking.
