report on guards in 2015 draft ?

Recommended Posts

La'el Collins, G/OT, LSU
Height: 6-5. Weight: 321.
Projected 40 Time: 5.40.
Projected Round (2015): 1-2.

12/6/14: Collins has been decent for LSU in 2014 as both a reliable pass-protector and run-blocker. He has some vocal supporters who claim he's a top-10 pick, but some of his critics think he should play guard or right tackle in the NFL.

In speaking with multiple NFL teams, one says Collins has a second-round grade and views him as a guard. Another feels Collins can be a very good guard who plays right away and possibly develops into a tackle, while a third team feels Collins is a right tackle who could go late first, but more likely in the second round. They all feel he needs to improve his technique. Collins could help himself by performing well at the Senior Bowl.

 Laken Tomlinson, G, Duke
Height: 6-3. Weight: 330.
Projected 40 Time: 5.18.
Projected Round (2015): 3-5.

12/6/14: Tomlinson wasn't really challenged yet by an elite tackle. However, he has blocked well for Duke. Tomlinson is a strong run-blocker who has to improve his pass protection for the NFL. Sources said that Tomlinson received a grade well into Day 3, but the team that likes him enough to ultimately draft him could end up taking him on Day 2. Tomlinson is a gifted athlete with surprising agility and quickness for a big blocker. He carries his weight well and has some strength to him.  give his size and weight he fast.

Vadal Alexander*, G, LSU
Height: 6-6. Weight: 342.
Projected 40 Time: 5.29.
Projected Round (2014): 2-3.

12/6/14: Alexander had a strong season. He was a powerful run-blocker, yet reliable in pass protection. Alexander had a strong showing against Florida and did well versus Ole Miss

    • I think teams are going to give up the run and force offence to march down the field on a 10 play drive and score. They are going to take away the big play and make Richardson throw intermediate and short passes. The defense believes that he will throw up a pick and/or the offense will stall.  Although,  I dislike the cover 2 defense, it is perfect against a guy like Richardson. The Colts have not shown that they can put long drives together. It is early and it is up to Richardson to make teams attack more. If they continue to run with success and Richardson makes those easy plays.  Then it is a different ball game and it opens up everything. Quite simple actually, lol.  If Taylor is pounding the rock against 4 man fronts because Richardson has improved his accuracy.  Then the D will have to pick their poison. Do you play up to stop the run, short and intermediate passes? Or do they play back to stop the big play? Richardson's evolution, if it happens, will stress the defense probably like no other qb because of his skill set.
    • I think the way people have been talking about him, it makes it seem like he's incapable of making those throws at all. There's a lot of sensationalism about his throwing right now.
    • I think the most surprising thing about this list for me is that Addai isn’t any higher than he is.
    • Lol. Sure, I meant he ALWAYS makes those mistakes. I think you’re smart enough to know that I meant he’s made those mistakes enough that it’s kind of alarming to me. If you’re not alarmed, cool.
    • They do need an offensive mind, though. I said from the moment he was hired there that it was a move that was dead on arrival. Pairing a QB like Fields (and now Willams,) with a guy like Flus wasn’t productive for either side. Both of those QBs would benefit far more from having an offensive guy at the helm than a defensive one. A defensive coach needs to have a strong offensive staff in place to help those young QBs and Flus did not.    Fields is the perfect case in point: he landed in Pittsburgh with a defensive minded head coach who had a strong enough offensive support system to benefit him, and his career is starting to turn around for it.    Think of our own history, did the pairing of Andrew Luck with a defensive guy like Pagano do him any favors? Not really, and in the end it’s probably a big part of the reason that story turned out the way it did.
