First time visit to LOS, need some advice

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Been a Colts fan for over 15 years, I've lived in Buffalo, NY all my life and I'm finally in Indianapolis for this week's Sunday night game against the Patriots.

I have a few questions,

1. With the roof being closed, what would you say would be ok to wear for warmth?

2. My wife and I drove and are staying at the Hyatt about 6 miles away. What is the parking situation if we drive there? Where should we Park and would it be easier to taxi or shuttle?

Thanks in advance and if you have any other suggestions, please let me know!

With the roof being closed you can expect the temperature in the stadium to be in the 60s.  The walk to the stadium will probably be in the 20s, so dress for that.  I usually wear a sweatshirt or some sort of base layer under my jersey in the stadium and am always comfortable.

Parking depends on how much you're willing to pay and how far you're willing to walk.  If you're willing to pay $20 or more you can park pretty close to the stadium.  If you don't mind walking a bit it is cheaper, or even free if you can find some on street spaces in downtown.  There is no charge at the meters on Sunday,

Roof open or closed, I am always cold in the stadium.  Just be prepared for it being colder than you might imagine.

As for parking, there are lots or garages all over the downtown area.  Closer to the stadium, the more costly it is but downtown is so convenient that you can pretty much park anywhere and be relatively close to LOS.

In the stadium shorts are plenty warm for me. We normally Park at the garage next to the Marriott. Its $10 & then you can go thru the sky walk to the Marriott and never be outside all the way to your seats. Tomorrow night we are staying at the ambassey suites so I'm not sure about the parking but I'm sure the walk will be longer and colder getting to the stadium so shorts might be out.

The temp in the stadium is actually set at 70 but you can get some breezes.  There are a number of parking lots south of the stadium with very easy access.  McCarty St. is the main east-west street south of the stadium and you will find lots there, or turn south on Meridian.  I'd stay away from the parking garages; they can be a bear to get out of sometimes after the games, especially if the crowd stays till the end.  If you get to the stadium right when the doors open (2 hrs before kickoff) you can go down to the Colts tunnel and see the players come out for pregame warmups.  Hope this info helps!

Thanks for pay that sky walk map looks like shorts will be the ticket today. Just need to get from the car to embassy suites and from there to the Colts grill for the early games and back. Then it's inside the rest of the day.

I always take a trash bag with me this time of year. That way you can safely store your jacket under your seat without getting spillage on it. Also, don't forget about the clear bag rule if you're taking a female with you

    • I'm not saying you don't need speed and/or power. I'm just pointing out college players rely on it too often because it works in college, but then find out without technique their not as efficient.
    • OK......      I'm not speaking to Basham at all.    Have seen zero film on him.   I was only trying to say that DL's using speed and/or power in the NFL have worked since the league began.    PLayers who don't with at least one of them typically don't last long in the NFL.    The ones who can win with both have long, successful careers.   More to the point, our whole defense is built on speed.   Especially on the defensive front.   Look at our DE's.   Houston uses both speed and power.    Autry uses both as he plays DE and DT.   Turay is a speed guy.   Banogu is a speed guy.   Lewis, is a bit like Autry in that he plays both DE and DT.    He's trying to use both to win.    We're trying to find DL who win with their first step.  Get even on step 2,  and pass the OL on step 3.       Do the D-Lineman need to develop better hand moves -- absolutely.   100 percent.   That's why Ballard says young DL often need 2-3 years to figure things out.    He just noted Jerry Hughes who didn't blossom until Year 4 with Buffalo.   We gave up on him too soon.    Sorry,  don't mean to belabor the point,  I wanted to read your response before I posted what I needed to say....   Thanks...
    • You give him the same weapons as Watson had, he will.
    • This is why drafting a QB/Eason panning out would be ideal for when this happens again. I have stated I'm all for Stafford, but it further restricts you.    We will have about $85 million  committed to Buckner($21 mill), Leonard($19 mill), Nelson($19 mill), Kelley($11 mill), & B. Smith($15 mill) alone after next season.    The issue with having so much talent is eventually you have to get rid of some. I wouldn't be surprised if we trade a star in a few years because we can't afford to pay them(like the 49ers) for a high draft pick.
    • I meant it's not gonna work as easily in college. Hand fighting and levrage matter more which Basham has. That was my point.
