3 First Round Picks Without Trading Manning!

Recommended Posts

If we have the 1st pick in the draft we could trade it to the Browns for there two 1st , 3rd , this year and 1st , 3rd next year.

So that meens we have 1st (top ten),1st(10-20),2nd(33),3rd(65)3rd(70-80),4th(97),5th(129),6th(161),7th(193)

If we trade are 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, this year and are 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th next year to the Packers or 49ers for there 1st

we would have 1st(top ten)via browns,1st(10-20)via browns,1st(27-32)via 49ers or packers ,2nd(33),3rd(70-80)via browns in this draft .

2012 Draft

1st(top ten).Morris Claiborne CB or Quinton Coples DE

1st(10-20).Devon Still DT or Brandon Thompson DT

1st(27-32).Nick Toon WR or Chase Minnifield CB

2nd(33). Kendall Wright WR or Jared Crick DE

3rd(70-80).Ray Ray Armstrong SS

2013 Draft

1st(?).?

1st(?).?

2nd(?).?

3rd(?).?

WOW five 1st round picks in in two drafts.

Highly unlikely but possible.

Tell me what you think.

This should wind up being a pretty deep draft so, aside from the extreme unlikelihood of the proposed scenario, I'd take my chances with the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th round picks instead of trading them all (plus the 7th) for one extra 1st round pick.

If we could get those draft picks from the Browns, Id be ALL for it! They are actually the team I hope we trade with most cause I really want two 1sts this year and a 1st next year. Of course I would only make this deal if we are confident Manning will be back healthy next year.

I would change the draft selections to something like this though...

1st(via trade)- Blackmon, Claiborne, or Barkely

Then target OG David DeCastro with the other 1st.

Then target SS Mark Barron with our 2nd.

With this scenario i would go:

1: Dre Kirkpatrick

1. David Decastro

1. Dontari Poe

2. Mark Barron

3. Coby Fleener

But i doubt it would happen. Its more likely that we will have 1 this year and 2 next

The Browns aren't going to trade for the 1st pick, as they have their QB of the future. He needs weapons. They will keep their two first round picks and provide him with said weapons accordingly, or perhaps snag a DE. This has been beaten to death, so stop making thread titles that proclaim it to be a revelation that the Browns have two picks.

Furthermore, I would rather keep picks 3-7 this year, and next year, as opposed to mortgaging them all for another 1st. I sincerely doubt anyone's going to bend over and let one team have that many in the first round anyway. Not to mention the fact that we would lose a great opportunity to find depth and hidden gems.

Any chance you could stop posting that in every single draft discussion thread?

    • Yup, after I posted, I looked it up. Looks like Coutee only had 2 weeks on the 53 last year, which he needs 6 min for an accrued season.    If TY isn't resigned, I think Coutee stands a decent chance of sticking on the 53. We're over stocked on bigs, not so much on Z/slot types. That is, unless they start running 6-3+ guys from Z...
    • I think Coutee has one more year to accrue.
    • Coutee was a late waive (last cut day) by Houston that surprised a lot of folks, and we jumped on him quickly (I think it was around the time we knew TY would miss time). I don't mean necessarily that someone will grab him for a starter roll, but he'll get grabbed by someone (PS or 53). He's been in the league 4 seasons, but not sure he's met the accrued 4 year stipulation (weeks on 53). Strachan and Patmon both have a little film out there which will interest teams. Patmon has a bit of a rep for not being a my-ball guy, so that likely hurts him. Strachan is seen as raw with a high ceiling so teams are more likely to romanticize lol. All three would at least make it to a team, 53 or PS. But I think Strachan is the most likely claimed for a 53 spot.
    • This happens every year with a late round pick. Fans go crazy and they wind up doing nothing. I just don’t get invested in that late of a draft pick because chances are slim they contribute.
    • Its not that Strachan was only a 7th round pick, so who cares?    Ballard and the scouts think they’ve uncovered a Diamond in the rough.   He’s 6’5” and 225 and runs 4.5.   And he played zero high level football until he came to the Colts.    Think of all of our draft video’s over the years where Ballard says we want traits, high level traits.   Those are things you can’t coach up.   And you can’t coach up 6’5” 225 and 4.5.   But we can coach up his ability to read defenses and the routes that he runs, and even his hands.   Those you can make better.    If you’re hung up on the round we drafted him in, think of it this way….  Had he gone to a Big Boy school like Georgia,  or Notre Dame, or USC, he likely would’ve been drafted higher.   The kid has raw talent.   We’ve given Patmon two years of polishing, odds are we’d like to give Strachan the same.
