2015 Colts Mock Draft

Recommended Posts

Not gonna be a deep position after this season.

The only person I think that might not come back is Nicks.    And I think it's too early to know one way or another.    But even if he leaves Moncrief should get much better and earn more playing time.

We'll add another WR, no doubt.    I just don't want to use a #1 at this point to do it.

This is Wayne's final year too. We'll walk into next season with TY and an unproven Moncrief.

It's his final year on his contract.   I'm guessing he wants to come back.

You could be write, and I'm just guessing,  but I haven't read or heard anything that says Reggie is retiring after this year......

My guess is he comes back one more year and makes his announcement upon arrival in TC next year or OTA's that next year will be his last year. Then again that's just a guess to. For all I know he could stick around for 3-4 more years but I don't think he has quite that much left in him at this point

DR isn't missed. Wayne is on his way to comeback player of the year, Hilton will look better once we open the playbook up for him, and Nicks is doing okay I suppose. Plus Moncrief looked like a beast in the Jaguars game. Don' t forget about Dwayne Allen as well. The receiving corps is fine. We might look at  another low risk high reward player we can get for cheap at the WR position.

Nicks gone after this year...Wayne getting to be that age...excluding this year...1-2 more years tops.  So that leaves: Hilton, Allen, Moncrief, Doyle, Fleener, Whalen and... Sammy Coates or Laquon Treadwell IMO.  Trade 2015 first rounder and prepare...

Apparently trade our 2015 first to move up in the 2014 1st round to grab Sammy Coates (Auburn WR expected to go in the 1st round this coming draft at this point....Don't know who Laquon is at this point) and have not really studied Coates to give an opinion on him but I do know we don't need to trade a future 1st when there are several other very very talented WR's in this draft.

Actually,  I saw another post by FalseStart in another thread and apparently those two players are WR's for the 2016 draft.

Not sure why you'd want to trade off a 2015 pick in hopes of getting a specific guy in 2016?    That's incredibly reckless....

That makes sense, Though Coates is a Jr and could declare, Laquon is a Sophomore however.

Not reckless at all... Calculated... 2 #1RD in 2016 IMO would bring greater value over the duration of A. Lucks career.  If you do not know who Sammy Coates or Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss) then look them up first... Don't just respond "Who?" That is downright incendiary NewColtsFan.  Ha...  This is a mock...guess...opinion...based on what I feel as a Colts fan is future need.  We are only 6 games into the season. (For crying out load) Reggie and Robert Mathis will be gone in 2-3 years...2-3 more years of high level or functional value.  Now if Gregory (Nebraska) is there...then okay (Mathis Replacement)...but if not...then Joey Bosa and/or one of the aforementioned receivers might be a better overall value.

So based on Functional value...what rookie from this upcoming 2015 draft will unseat Mathis (If Healthy) or Wayne or one of the other Colts players who are quickly gaining experience?  I can't think of one off hand.  You might lobby OL, but our OL is getting better.  Harrison © has found a home...possibly.  Guard?  Thornton, Holmes, Shipley...  RT?  Maybe...  DL...  D-Line is looking great with Kerr, Hughes, RJF, Redding, Chapman, Werner...  LB... Looking good...  SS... (Yes)  2015 RD 2 or RD 3.  RB... Free Agency...

Cheers...

The reckless part is to give up a '15 #1 for a '16 #1 (and hopefully more picks) on the hope that one of your two desired WR's is there.

That's reckless because odds are,  they won't be there.   And then what?

The Colts aren't in position to wait a year at this point of Luck's career.   They desire to win is now.   We want to get better now, not a year from now.

If you tell me that '15 is a down year (which I haven't heard yet at all)  and that '16 is going to be a fabulous year (which I also haven't heard yet)  that might be a different thing,   but both would have to happen for me to even consider wanting to do something like this....

As for the players,  I'd simply say it's board courtesy for the poster who brings them up to tell us about them rather than have the reader have to search for information about them.    Just food for thought.....

I love your passion, False Start....   even if your screw is a little loose from time to time!

I think with the talent and experience that we have right now...we should be alright with trading the RD1 2015 for another Rd1 2016 plus something late round.  Besides, we will still have 2015 RD2, RD3, RD4, RD5, etc...

We will win the AFC South.

Laquon Treadwell: Reminds me of a Reggie Wayne/Andre Johnson clone.

Sammy Coates: Michael Irvin...Demarius Thomas?

Joey Bosa: JJ Watt?

I'm a State fan and Bosa is good but he has a ways to go to be on Watt's level.

Antwan Goodley from Baylor would be a great WR addition, although we may have to use a 2nd round pick on him. He is 5'11" but 220 lbs with a rumored 4.39 forty. He is having a great season at Baylor which may propel him into the 2nd round range. We have a great young group of wideouts with Hilton, Moncrief, and Goodley.

I am not sure what veteran wide receivers will be available via free agency though. There may be a guy who, like Nicks, would take a one year deal to play with Luck. This would allow us some flexibility to go for talent in the draft regardless of the side of the ball he is on.

In the late first round I like:1. Melvin gordon, 2. Bnardrick mckinney 3. Shawn oakman 4. Shaq thompson.

if none of these players are available when its time for our first pick I want tevin coleman.

I wish we pick mckinney with the first round and tevin coleman with the 2nd.

Mckinney can play middle or the outsidebacker... man we need some speed demons on defense, sure tacklers.. yeah we need safeties toobut we can use tevin coleman, the dudes a bulley through the whole. Nice size and power... his speed is better than what people think. He can block and has nice hands.

    • Any worries about rumored shoulder issue?
    • I knew I had a favorite last year, but I thought I would be good with whoever the Colts picked... and this was until the odds for the Colts picking Levis hit -4000 or something of the sort about half an hour before the draft and my heart completely dropped. In a way I'm happy the odds-makers completely missed on this one... it showed me how I really felt about those players and made me even more appreciative for us drafting Richardson an hour later.    So... you would be good with any of them... but who do you REALLY want?    On your question... if I had to guess, most Colts fans haven't watched this QB draft extensively. I know I haven't. So his statistical profile doesn't scream 1st rounder so... possibly why not many people really like him. Also keep in mind that this is compared to the other 3. 2 of them have been crowned as the next big thing for a while now and the third one won the Heismann with some exceptional performaces throughout the year.
    • My sleepers: (meaning, the kind of players coaches would like to have, more than what consensus big board gives credit to them. Some of them might need couple of years to attain their high potential, if drafted into suitable coaching environment, so a lot depends on that. Some of them have injury concerns too).   Most of them are high IQ players or high-effort, high-motor players - two traits I look for from the Drafted players, list is long but I like these guys.. gonna be interesting to see where they land and how it works out for them in long run.    Payton Wilson, LB, NC State Caelen Carson, CB, Wake Forest Kiran Amegadjie, OT, Yale Maason Smith, IDL, LSU Christian Mahogany, OG, Boston College Max Melton, CB, Rutgers Zak Zinter, OG, Michigan Bucky Irving, RB, Oregon Khyree Jackson, CB Oregon Dylan McMahon, C, NC State (good fit for Browns)  Tykee Smith, SAF, Georgia Ainias Smith, WR, Texas A&M Cam Hart, CB, Notre Dame Michael Barrett, LB Michigan Malachi Corley, WR, Western Kentucky Beaux Limmer, IOL, Arkansas   Kamren Kinchens, S, Miami McKinnley Jackson, IDL, Texas A&M Kalen King, CB, Penn State Justin Eboigbe, IDL, Alabama    Jacob Cowing, WR, Arizona Beau Brade, SAF, Maryland Isaac Guerendo, RB, Louisville Jalyx Hunt, EDGE, Houston Christian (I'm hoping for day 3 Vikings pickup, as Flores could work wonders with him)  Jaheim Bell, TE, Florida State Brennan Jackson, EDGE, Washington State  Delmar Glaze, OT, Maryland Myles Cole, EDGE, Texas Tech Kristian Boyd, DT, Northern Iowa Javontae Jean-Baptiste, DL, Notre Dame Jordan Magee, LB, Temple Myles Harden, CB, South Dakota Jalen Green, EDGE, James Madison (UDFA Target prospect)  Trey Taylor, S, Air Force (UDFA prospect) Eyabi Okie-Anoma, EDGE, Charlotte Qwan'tez Stiggers, CB, Toronto  Sundiata Anderson, EDGE, Grambling State  Daequan Hardy, CB, Penn State (Special Teams, Returner)  Emani Bailey, RB, TCU   As for Vikings, I don't wanna rush to draft QB if the team isn't confident in the guys they could move up in draft range, and I'd like to just draft impact players that build the roster at this point.   Build the team, draft a franchise QB at right time, don't rush and ruin years trying to make someone work out in the NFL.
    • If you are relying upon history, does accuracy matter?  I think the reason Smith ended up at RT is because the coaches tried him there out of necessity and he played well, and stayed there due to the coaches wishes.  I don't think that FO guys had much to say about it, because Smith was in fact drafted to be a G, not the RT.  Ballard's own words after day 2 of that draft was that they drafted Smith a bit higher than they had him ranked, because he was the "last remaining starting caliber G on the board".   So it does fit that Smith was not drafted by Ballard or the FO to be a RT...in part because of the measurables and arm length.   Also directing this response to @Matthew Gilbert
