Colts cuts: 53 man roster (Official Thread)

Recommended Posts

Not really. Sure he will lose some money, but he will go where he has a very good chance of starting. Somewhere RT help is desperately needed.

He is lacking in quality options at the moment. He's a veteran player who got cut a week before the season starts. If he wants to wait a couple weeks for someone to develop a critical need, that's fine. I don't think anyone would bring him in before Week 1 starts anyways, for guarantee reasons. But he isn't exactly a hot commodity, I don't think.

Pat Mac just lost his chance to lay out Holiday again. Trindon was just put on IR.

He isn't starting anywhere week one. He will have to earn the starting job no matter where he goes this late in the game

Not week one, but he will put himself in a position to start this year. If we lose an OT then he becomes an option for us.

I can see him setting back and waiting for the right opportunity to arise.

He just lost the battle for the starting job in Seattle and was awful in Arizona last year.

The real issue to me is can he stay healthy for an entire season or at least most of it given his playing style and injury history. I don't think he can and the team cant rely on a player who had or has two shot knees, He is a playmaker no doubt the way he flies around but he is reckless with his body and is not consistent wrapping up a ball carrier,

That's why he was waived.

Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm sorry I even brought it up. He hasn't been good recently.

That is what I believe he will do too. He is starting caliber, and will put himself in position to get another starting gig.

Not a smart move to go to a team with two quality starting tackles unless one of them gets hurt.

Still... Eric Winston would be a great backup at T

This I agree with. I doubt he sees himself as a backup though.

It would never happen

Well, If Winston was waived...

Couldn't  we put in a claim for him, and if we got the claim, wouldn't he have to play for us?

We do not need DL depth, but Devon Still was cut.

If we win the claim, and he wants to play in the NFL.

Feel bad for him. His daughter is fighting stage 4 cancer. It's a tough business.

There's something wrong here. This is the 'official' Colts cut thread. Yet there is more news on other teams cuts than our own and a whole bunch of dribble. Isn't there another thread somewhere for other teams? Oh wait that's right... is on the general forum. Going through 9 pages of crap just to see one person cut. Seriously. Also whoever made this thread, saying official doesn't make it official.

He's not waived. He's a vested veteran (meaning he has four years of service), so he immediately becomes a free agent and can sign where he wants. No waiver claims on him.

That changes after the trade deadline. All released players go through waivers after the trade deadline.

He's a vested veteran, can't be claimed.

That is rough. I would not blame him for putting football on hold for a while.

He will get another chance to play.

That is sad man.

Seems like you are the only one who cares though.

It is not bothering me one bit. I actually like it this way.

Eh, looking at the names of guys other teams have cut, I don't see anyone yet who screams "we need him" to me.

This is a mish-mash thread. It's gonna be messy. I hope you don't let it ruin your day.

Well I actually want to know who's cut and not scroll through 9 pages and waste my time just to see one cut made. seems a Lil ridiculous. I'll wait till tomorrow when somebody posts the full list.

Right, my bad. He'd be an expensive backup.

Not saying they will, but if the Colts were to keep five corners, Burley would make the 53 over Purifoy.

I understand that. But it appears that the collective group has decided to go another way.

Personally, I like it this way.

Big news:

Purifoy, Burley, and Studebaker have all made the 53 man roster.

    • Jacoby best interest are to start next season and improve and earn himself a possible starting job somewhere else if we draft a QB and he sits a year.  I think we need to slow down on us drafting the future. We have no idea what ballard is thinking or if any of these QB will do well on interviews or on the whiteboard when they are asked to break down plays. Heck Burrow could end up being really bad when it comes to interviews. Ballard might decide to give Jacoby another year since so many weird things happened this year.
    • Whoever we draft, chances are he won't start next year. IMO if we draft a QB, Brissett will be the overwhelming favorite to start the season as our starter. I would be kind of disappointed if Ballard missed on the best QB talent in the draft and settled for the 3d round types. Those picks are wild shots and have very low success rate for QBs. First-to-early second is the range where you can say the GM is drafting a QB because he sees him as a potential franchise QB. Anything past that IMO, you are drafting more backups or wildcards or injury insurance QBs...   If Ballard waits for round 3 to address QB this should tell you enough about the level of talent he thinks he's getting. He has no problem drafting players he values extremely high much higher than the consensus(Leonard, Okereke, Willis) if he thinks they have the talent. I can only imagine how much less likely he will be to fool around with the QB position and let a player who he really likes fall to round 3 for example. IMO if he doesn't draft a QB early, he probably hasn't given up on Brissett... or the QB he really liked got taken before our pick.
    • The questions are only going to get harder. I think the question was a little harsh, but not unfounded. The contract they gave him screamed audition. Basically it was a one year extension with a raise.
    • I would love to have JB stay as backup, but I think you are right. If we draft a QB, the rook doesn't need "ghosts" in the locker room either. JB probably wants to go somewhere where he can compete, just not sure where that would be. He'd be best going somewhere with a different system IMO.     I really don't want to keep Hoyer though. Unless he's some savant at teaching and preparing for Ds, just not sure of his upside. I wouldn't mind taking a shot at Eli for backup. Or hire him to replace Marcus Brady. Not to impressed with him given we've not seen a lot of improvements with JB.
    • If it gets to the point where Ballard and Reich decide they don't believe in JB anymore, then we need to draft a QB in round 1 and see what Kelly has.
