Colts cuts: 53 man roster (Official Thread)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, back after a big break over the off season. Think Tipton had done very well over the pre season, glad to see they kept Da'Rick Rodgers tol

Thing to keep in mind to, is we all thought this same thing about Reyford last year too.

And we were right. Rayford didn't do anything for the Cowboys, and we got a pick out of it.

EDIT: That pick for Rayford comes in the 2015 draft also.

Nice to see that Zach Kerr made the roster. I think he can contribute this season. Also, I think the board might have rioted had he been cut.

agreed

Oh wow.

I'm surprised by this one as well.  I thought he was a really solid player, but if you are going to get rid of him at least they got a draft pick out of it I suppose.  I'm not sure how they viewed it, but I suppose I'm in the ball park.

I'd rather have Burley, but so would the Seahawks. And that's probably the reason we traded him. Not a bad return for a UDFA.

I would have kept Josh walker for depth on the o-line and Dewey Mcdonald for depth at safety and Sheldon price for depth at CB.

Three centers!

Makes sense if they don't want to chance moving  Mewhort from G to C. Probably a temporary spot for until the other 2 are healthy ? On another note I see A Jackson was waived.

Disappointed that Andrew Jackson was cut. Hopeful that we can sign him to the practice squad. Other than that I feel alright with what the Colts did today.

Colts waived-injured S  Delano Howell and OT Matt Hall.

Let's hope Howell passes through waivers..

Is Howell going on IR?

Yes, that is news.  Maybe the designated IR returner, as Josh has been speculating.  Hope Josh Walker makes it to the practice squad.

assuming they clear waivers will any heading to the PS or waiver pick ups

I'd be shocked if Jackson and Mcdonald aren't on the PS.

he will have a hard time getting on the field with them, we may get him back from their practice squad, if it is legal

Walker is PS eligible, I bet he finds his way there in a day or so. I didn't see much out of McDonald to justify him making the 53, but he'd also be a PS guy. Price, I thought, I was bad.

I guess we are rolling with Adams and Landry.

I'm not too confident about that. :(

He's not on their practice squad, he's on their active roster. They'd have to waive him to get him to the practice squad, and we could claim him in that case.

It's also worth noting that the pick could be conditional, but since it's a sixth, I bet it's not.

I'll be shocked if Tipton doesn't join them.

We must run the ball this year. If Trent doesn't do great again, maybe try Herron. He looked so good, even if it was against 2/3 string guys.

I like Tipton, but he's probably the first call if we pick anybody off of waivers. Just can't see us keeping 4 rbs (5 counting Harvey). Subplot: could they be worried about Bradshaw s health?

One angle, sort of critical, is that we don't have any of Grigson's 6th rounders on the roster right now. Maybe Andrew Jackson hits the PS. So we have to determine how valuable a 6th rounder is to our team.

Still, I'm fine with the move. I think Burley is better than Purifoy, based on preseason, but Purifoy was okay also, and can return punts. Fair move.

So, we still have Harvey & Havili?

Or did I miss something?

Harvey's on the active roster. Havili is on PUP. So yes, we still have both. Today. Check back tomorrow.

Burley looked good and with an injury prone Greg Toler as number 2 CB I would have kept him. A 6th round pick is nice but it's not like you would get a sure thing with that.

Or is being kept for ST purposes only

He wouldn't be a backup on this team for very long.

Why, he'd be cut shortly?

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt by not assuming that you're suggesting Winston is better than our tackles.

6th rounders are valuable enough.

A 6th and a 4th for a 3rd (or something like that), and we still won't have any 6th rounders on the roster.

I definitely see us picking up an OL.

Maybe a safety and a corner.

Very true. Gotta find the right partner. And we have an extra 7th from the Rayford trade.

Grigson is the man!!!!

3 weeks ago, we just seen Burley as s CB

Now we got a 6th for him?

Sucks he went to the best defense in the game for us. But for him, that's huge to learn from one of the Top CB's in Sherman

    • Willis - the 4th round pick they traded up to get will be lucky to make the 53?  Man that is highly questionable. I’d say he is much closer to a lock to make the roster than be cut prior to opening day.
    • Well Im back been a long haul , my wife being blind had rotator cuff surgery and been in bad turn at same time so my cups been full.  But look lol the Central is just about where I left it. 162 games tells the story . Cards Cubs Brewers all right there together.
    • Faulk was a great player, but he was never a pure grind out yards type running back. Edge was.   James is a huge part of why the offense exploded in 1999 after we traded Faulk & drafted James. The play action to Edge/ bomb over the top to Harrison was absolutely LETHAL
    • As you have noticed,  I have taken a long time to respond.   Apologies in advance,  my response is long....   Everything you think I "overstated" I personally think I understated.     And I think all the arguments you used to make a case that the spring is more ideal than the winter is hugely overstated.   Look at the last sentence of your post...    how you describe "looking at the bigger picture and taking your time..."        Says who?      Who says an owner didn't look at the bigger picture in December as a disappointing season was coming to an end and that a decision was rushed?    That's entirely written by you as opinion based on zero known facts.    And it's your interpretation that better decisions can be made in the spring.   Huh?    When it's too late to fire the HC and his staff that gave you the disappointing previous season that got the GM fired in the first place.    Now, your new GM has to deal with a HC and staff that he didn't hire.   Now everyone in the building is walking on pins and neeedles wondering if they'll get fired or be retained.   So,  all the advantages of doing those decisions in winter of Y1 for the new GM,  now have to be done in winter of Y2.     So, if they're going to be done,  how is it better to flush a year down the drain and do it the following year?   I see lots of opinion,  and very little fact.    You've tossed out a number of interesting names that are available now....    nice names and none were in the running for a GM job 5 months ago,  and suddenly you think the next hot GM is in the pile?    I appreciate that Nick Caserio might be the exception to the Patriots rule from the BB tree....    but BB has a poor record of turning out good HC's elsewhere.   He might someday....   but not so far.    Front office is decent I think, so maybe Caserio is good?   But Don't you want to get all of this done sooner than later?    Don't you want to rip the band-aid off ASAP?   Doesn't the new GM want to hire his own guy,  his own staff, ASAP?     And if you think the answer is no,  then why don't all GM's who get hired in January,  do it your way?    Why don't they keep the staff,  the HC,  coordinators and assistants,  all the front office types and the scouts,  and do all the changes the following winter?     Why don't they do that?   They don't,  do they?   I really wish this was just a simple thought experiment.   That you were simply making a case that making a GM change in the spring is do-able and not anythig else.    Some here don't understand when it happens at all in the spring and I've made the argument several times that the spring isn't as bad as you think.    Doable under certain circumstances is perfectly OK.   But you're not doing that.     You're not arguing for doable.   Instead you're arguing for desireable.    And you think it's an easy decision.    I confess that even as your biggest admirer,  perhaps BECAUSE I'm your biggest admirer,  I find this position more than a little head scratching.....   Just saying....
    • Middleton had a contract that was 4 years or longer and the Bucks have his bird rights. That doesn't apply for Randle and the Pelicans.
