Rogers' Stupidity Baffles Me

Andy

Recommended Posts

Before the Bengals game, I would have told you it was smart to keep 6 receivers (Rogers and Whalen). But after watching Rogers play and seeing him fight for his life in the 2nd half of the game with and against 3rd stringers, it's obvious that he's not worth a roster spot.

Ok, I know, there are a lot of diehard supporters of Rogers, who spout the word "potential" every chance they get. Maybe he has good potential, but with the exception of a few plays, this man has proved nothing and looks invisible most of the time. This is more fact than opinion.

At first, we were arguing Whalen vs Rogers. After seeing Pagano tell Whalen to take the night off early in the game, and tell Rogers to go play in the 2nd half, I think we have our answer.

Now, if Rogers were able to prove himself in the latter portion of the game, he would be worth the spot. He caught a touchdown pass! WOW, he saved his job... not so fast. In what was another act of stupidity, he kicked the ball into the stands only to get a 15 yard penalty. He kicked the ball, he punted it... We're not done.

As the Bengals sideline and the announcers were doing their Ice Bucket challenge, I went to Twitter to see some news and saw on the broadcast that Rogers had walked away from the coaches who were attempting to talk to him. They tried talking to him but he didn't listen. I remember an incident against the Bengals last year, where after scoring an impressive touchdown, he showboated into the endzone and Pagano gave him a talking to. I won't forget it, Rogers was unresponsive and attempted to walk away. This is the type of guy he is.

So, the kid has made a few nice plays, but when it comes down to the final spot on the roster, give it to a hard working special teamer rather than a guy like Rogers.

Now, I understand I may get yelled at by some Rogers fans, so go ahead fans.

@HolderStephen: Da'Rick Rogers might not make the roster as a WR, so instead he wants to audition for punter? ***** play

@HolderStephen: That's why if the Colts go w five WRs, Whalen will get the nod. Count on it.

EDIT NOTE: Manually put that edit in the first tweet because Stephen Holder used a word that's blocked out on the forum in his tweet

He is prolly frustrated becuase he hasn't been getting many chances this game due to O line and quarterback play!

BUT if he is that immature I am okay with getting rid of him!! I would much rather get something out of him if we did let him go! I would only be okay if we did get something decent out of him.

There have got to be desperate teams that will give us a 4th or possibly better.

They won't get a fourth for an unproven player.

Hakeem did something stupid too, calm down man. He punted a ball, big whoop. Huge overreaction Andy

It's so much what he did now, it's more of a fact that he's done this before. In the game against the Bengals, he showboated into the endzone and when Pagano spoke to him, he almost seemed non-responsive (NFL Films filmed it).

This guy does not get a lot of opportunities, but whenever I see him out there, he's either invisible or doing stuff like tonight.

If it were up to me, I'd send him packing, maybe try and get him on the PS.

Who cares?! If he produces, which he has by scoring the only TD today, then it shouldn't matter. Dez Bryant acts like this a lot, and no one says anything. Rogers has shown plenty more than a "few nice plays", but keep doubting him. Big plays and scores with Luck against Cincy and KC, a TD with Hassebeck and even a TD with Harnish and that putrid o-line, who cant even buy Harnish enough time to make throws to Rogers. What more do you people want?

Rogers has the size, athleticism, speed, body control you want in a starting receiver. He hasn't been here for long, but he has already shown he's more than capable of being a playmaker in the NFL. Give him more time with Luck and he'll continue to show it.

I also completely understand why he is *. I'd be * too if my rival got the luxury of playing with the starters thus making HIM look good, while I was being featured with a horrible QB (yes, it's Harnish I'm talking about) and putrid o-line.

True, but when you're trying to make a football team you don't do that. Especially given the situation. It's the whole privileged, I don't care, attitude that may have potentially cost him a chance with another team.

I agree it was a stupid thing to do but if I was trying to catch a ball from chandler harnish playing behind a horrid oline. I would get so frustrated and do a lot worse than just " kick a football ". And he did listen to chuck... He walked away after he got chewed out. If he was playing with hassleback this would be a completely different conversation...

My God, you did not just mention Dez Bryant in the same paragraph. Bryant is a proven superstar and has improved his act. Rogers is a guy fighting for a roster spot.

More than a "few plays", right... those 2 you got there are his two big ones. Can you name three more?

This kid had HUGE issues coming out of college, he hasn't done a single freaking thing but celebrate too much on one occasion? (let's not kid ourselves, it's preseason) I think he's done wonderfully considering.

You know he'd never make it to the PS. You're all blowing this way out of proportion.

And who's to say Rogers can't improve "his act" too? The comparison was simply to illustrate that if you have the tools, which Rogers has (although he's not a superstar like Dez), then it's all right with some attitude to some extend - especially without people making overreactions threads like this one.

i already mentioned that I didn't write anything about more than a few big plays. I said he made more than a few nice plays (which is what you wrote). Read again. And he has made more nice plays. Watch the games.

And Rogers has cleaned up his act very well.

Not to mention Whalen should make the team regardless of Rogers actions. He catches about everything thrown his way, he fights for extra yards after the catch. Don't know about you but I`d take that any day over the once in awhile highlight plays and trouble waiting to happen

Exactly. Which is why this thread is the perfect example of an obvious anti-Rogers agenda. Rogers has been much approved in his attitude, but when he shows some emotion - just one time, then he gets hammered.

Of course Rogers can improve his act, which he has done off the field. Dez was a starter (and a superstar his 2nd year) the second he played for the Cowboys. Again, Rogers is fighting for a spot on the roster and only has this so called "potential". A lot of players have the tools, it doesn't mean they can be great players.

A guy fighting for his job in the final preseason game in the final quarter down by 21 cannot do *ic plays like that and walk away from a talking from the coaches. It's a slap to the face of the team. It's more baffling then anything.

You haven't said what he has done well. You showed two very nice GIFs. You keep running away from my question.

Anti-Rogers? I've always given Rogers a chance, and I'm optimistic with him, go look at everything I've written about him.

You don't find it peculiar that he takes that dumb penalty with that much time in the game in that situation. It makes me question if he has changed that much. Sure, if he doesn't do drugs off the field or assaults anyone that's great, but on the field is where it matters at the end of the day.

Trying to compare DR and Griff is like comparing Roy Hibbert and George Hill

I was excited as everyone was last year when he emerged on the scene, of course impressed with his athletic ability and his size - but was VERY disappointed over his progress from last year to this. If he had the obsessive work ethic it takes to be a star in the NFL he would have gotten with Reggie and Andrew and others during the offseason and made a noticeable improvement in his moves and his route running. Of course, I am not privy to his workouts, schedules, habits etc. and maybe he did work his butt off,  but I saw the same guy who seemed to make very little improvement.

His routes and moves seemed really predictable and lacked any kind of "Reggie-ness" which perplexes me. Reggie has a reputation as a great teacher, but why didn't anything rub off on Rogers? It just seemed like he was more or less the same novice he was last year. Instead of jumping on the Rogers bandwagon, I took a bit of a "show me" standoffish attitude about him. In retrospect, I am glad I did.

I think it is obvious that there were some deeper issues that go beyond his immaturity. It looks to me like he had a disdain for the coaching staff, which he exhibited more than just tonight. Maybe he is young and still resents authority, and would disrespect ANY coaching staff, who knows. All I can say is that if the presence of that outstanding locker room and the quality of the character there has not rubbed off on him yet - it probably won't.

I say bag him, if you can keep him on the practice squad fine - I don't see him as a player at this point with any significant trade value, nor do I see teams clamoring to pick him up off waivers.

I could be wrong, I certainly have been many times before and this could be another time.

Punting the ball is one thing. Walking away from your coaches when they are talking to you unacceptable. But you think that's OK cause why?
