Any interest in Kevin Williams?

Recommended Posts

Or, we could just keep Josh Chapman as our #1 guy

:colts:

He is a 6x pro bowler and 5x all pro at DT not sure why we would move him to NG. Although he can play NG. I thought the plan was to see more of Hughes at NG this year. Williams wants a winning organization with a proven QB that is a short list.

He would more than fill in for Moala. Pendelton is 30 don't see him setting the world on fire. Maybe one of the UDFA step up.

Williams is out there and looking at a shot to win. He knows its coming to an end already accepted the fact he would be a rotational player the real question is will he accept a rotational players pay check??

That's a valid point. We would have to crunch the numbers salary wise to obtain him.

If he comes cheap; then I'll take him. The Williams brothers use to run that defensive line in Minnesota

I think Williams has always been a 4-3 DT.

Not sure he's ever played as a 3-4 DE/DT?    Who knows if he can make that conversion at this point in his career?

He just visited NE don't they run a modified 34 I think he could pull it off. If Lil Billy thinks he can I do too. I would guess he would be a pass rush rotation I would also guess he wants to be paid more than he is worth at this point in his career unfortunately. Who knows maybe he really just wants a shot on a good team he has made a ton of money, Just a thought

Back in the day both Neil Smith and Alfred Williams( he actually only took 20,000...if you're going by the book) took less, just to play for a contender (Bronco's) .

There you go you negotiate it. If he is serious about winning not a better spot would be an important part of the D Line on the USA Today's Super Bowl pick. Would be close to home if he lives in Minny. What more could he want?  Be nice to bring some pressure from inside I think he can still do that as a rotational player.

If you've got something to say -- say it.

I stated no facts.    I offered no opinions.     I asked simple straightforward questions.     I'm not sure why you felt the need to take a shot at me here?    Then again,   I don't pretend to understand how your mind works?

So,  if you have a comment to make - go ahead and say what you want.....

Players often make positional switches in the NFL. EXAMPLE: Mario Harvey, Robert Mathis and so on. You act like there's no possible way Williams could do it.

First, I think you read way too much into my very short post.   I don't think for a minute that "there's no possible way Williams could do it"....    I have no idea if he could or not....

But position switches are not as common as one might think.   And lots of players don't want to, especially late in their careers.  I think Mathis is more the exception than the rule -- and thank God he is!!

I was more thinking out loud than anything else.     That's all.    If Williams wants to play in our 3-4,  great!   The guy is a talent.

If he was interested and Grigson/Pagano were interested,  and we could do a deal,  then I'm fine with it.    Really.

I agree with you! The switch may or may not work!! Who knows! But he for sure would be coming in to play end. He would basically take Fili's spot. I don't see Williams holding up the inside on his own...

NCF didn't act like that at all, he merely stated an observation that the player has never played a 3-4 role before and was asking for input as to whether he could make the switch or not...

Sorry if I've put words in your mouth there NCF.

As for the topic at hand there isn't an exact science to a position switch but I'm sure the FO will bring him in if they think he can offer anything.

To your point, it's easy to forget how average Warren Sapp was in Oakland.  Moving a disruptive 3 tech into our system is unlikely to make a big splash in our base look.  It makes sense if you are going to give him enough pass rush snaps in our nickel - but thus far, we haven't pursued any players that fit that mold, so you have to wonder if interior nickel rush specialists are ever going to be part of the plan.

Seems like there is some interest for Williams... just not from the Colts.  But if the Colts did sign him, I don't think it would be a bad move.  Although he is a 34 year old DT whose production and stedily declined in the past 4 years.  But who knows, as a rotational guy, getting 10-15 snaps a week may keep his legs fresh during the season.

Seahawks got him. One year, $2M.

to be fair though, for the most part, the 3-4 DT position in the Colts hybrid defense (that RJF plays and I believe this is where they had Moala listed as a backup) is very similar to the DT (undertackle) in a 4-3.  The weakside DE in our hybrid isn't a typical 3-4 DE.  :)
