Wow, check out this list of demands the city has to do in order for the NFL to consider you to host a Superbowl. Unbelievable.........

http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/6/8/5790704/nfl-super-bowl-demands-host-cities-minneapolis

What the NFL wants
  • Free police escorts for team owners
  • Use of Presidential suites at the city's top hotels at no-cost
  • 35,000 free parking spaces
  • All revenue from ticket sales to the game
  • Free curbside parking at the NFL House, a "high-end, exclusive drop-in hospitality facility for our most valued and influential guests to meet, unwind, network and conduct business."
  • Local police dedicated to anti-counterfeit enforcement, provided at no cost
  • Installation of ATM machines at the stadium that accept NFL preferred credit and debit cards, along with the removal of ATMs that "conflict with preferred payment services."
  • Two top quality bowling venues for an NFL celebrity bowling event
  • Portable cell phone towers
  • Free promotional space from local newspapers and radio stations for the "NFL Experience" in the month before the game
  • Creation of "clean zones" around the stadium and the hotel for NFL execs that prevent "certain activities" as well as suspend new and existing permits for those activities
  • Free access to three top golf courses in the months before the game
  • Exemption from state, county and municipal taxes

I'd much rather just not host a Super Bowl at all.

Why not do it in Hawaii every year instead of constantly changing the stadium?

And who the hell wants to go anyway? Sit around all those rich jerks while they rub it in your face much like they do from those private booth boxes. They already laugh at you enough when they jack up ticket prices to the point it cost you an arm and a leg just to go to a stupid game.

The only people that can even afford to go to the Super Bowl are rich people, so I don't want to hear any excuses that they won't be able to afford the trip to Hawaii.

The SUPERBOWL should be the home game of the best remaining team. So if the SAINT'S are 13-3 and we're 12-4, then it's your home game. I can accept this type of rule change. NOTHING FANCY PANTS...JUST FOOTBALL.

That would be a decent experiment, but I believe the way it's played on an open field is something they'll never change.

I didn't like the idea for last year putting it in NY. For me personally, the most important factor is the weather, which is why I think it should be played in a dome every year or somewhere like Hawaii where there is no weather factor.

Not a bad idea at all....or even let the previous SB winners host the SB the following year.

Weather is part of it and i'm cool with that. The team's fight hard all year long for this honor, so they deserve it. The only real problem is if they finish with identical records. So we must consider that also....

I wonder what the "Free access to three top golf courses in the months before the game" is really for.  No way is it for golfing during the heart of a Minnesota winter.

That one made me laugh too.  It's no wonder why so many SBs were hosted in New Orleans and Miami.

The issue I can see with this is that it wouldn't give enough notice to a city. You could run it a season on arrears say and maybe make it the previous years champs.

However we all know the real mover behind a SB city choice is money and perks.

but, what color M & M's do they want removed from their bowl of candy?

Those are some rock star demands but I guess it hasn't stopped anyone from wanting it

I wonder about the golf course thing.  Do they bring sponsors to the venue in advance or something?  Or do the NFL execs just need to golf a lot?

This should absolutely be between the AFC and NFC for home field advantage. It's easier if the records are cut and dry, but if they're the same then it's a problem. We must think of a new scoring format or other, for this type of problem.

there are endless tie breaker rules in place for just such a scenario

I think this report on what the NFL wants for it's SB visit is way over the top with outragious "perks". If these items are legit, and its true, then the NFL offices should be ashamed at themselves for taking advantage of cities who are in debt crisis already.

I think the Super Bowl should be played in one location every year. I think florida should be the best spot. In Miami. I dont like domes.

Its impossible to put an event of that magnitude together in less than two weeks.

Cant ever happen ....you cant plan a Super Bowl in 2 weeks and you cant play it in Chicago or Green Bay in February

..plus..you want the NFL title game to be held on a neutral site....to get the best game

Its too important for you to be able to earn a home field advantage

Then push the SuperBowl back a month, then do it. And yes, i'm fine with it being a snow game.

My question is if Indy has 3 quality golf courses in the area? I mean up to their expectations? I am not a golfer but I can only think of 2 that host PGA events.

I'm not a golfer so I have no clue.

But now I want to know which ones were up to NFL snuff

Still want to know who is doing all the golfing

The BFL doesnt want it to be a snow game..they gambled in NY and narrowly won (by about 10 hours)

No one DESERVES home field in the Super Bowl....its the equivalent of having all 7 games of the World Series at home

Couldn't have it at the best available teams stadium as fans going to the Super Bowl need to plan flights, hotels (plus cost cost of difference between flying from say New York at a weeks notice to Philly or Arizona) amongst hundreds of other things. Police forces need months to plan large scale events that come with the Super Bowl too, not just the game itself.

I read an article on Yahoo recently that hosting the Olympics is similarly aggravating for the host country. Some countries are pulling out because they're finally realizing that it's not worth it. The initial belief was the Olympics provides a huge boost to tourism even after the Olympics are over, but studies have shown this is not the case. People basically go to the country, trash the place, then leave.

it takes years of planning to pull off a Super Bowl because of the event it's become you aren't doing that in two weeks and NFL isn't giving up the revenue that comes with the things that makes the game the event it is so it can be done in two weeks either.

What a loser of a post. You see being successful (or lucky) in business as a crime. Get over it.

So, the NFL wants all the profits from the SB stadium event & a free pass on taxes? That's outrageous. Is the NFL claiming they're broke? What a crock. Also, they want police protection & clean streets around the city but they refuse to contribute to the local state economy demanding free lodging too? There's a word for that: Extortion.

I'm surprised that Roger Goodell agreed to crack open his wallet in a restaurant. He only made $35.1 million in 2013. How does he survive on so little?  haha  Sarcasm intended here.

Thank you Lollygager. Occasionally, I get a flash of pure clarity my brother. It's rare, but it does happen once in awhile. LOL!

I can always count on you to get to the meat of the matter. Translation: You are fair, insightful, & when someone is taking advantage of a lucrative situation i.e. Roger Goodell you call them out on the carpet for all to see.  Nice!

Sadly these sorts of demands are typical for major sporting events.

You should see some of the stuff FIFA demanded on Brazil for the World Cup.

Sadly far too many cities or countries are willing to put up with these sorts of things just to get their city 15 minutes of fame because it's hosting such a big sporting event.  And more often then not it seems as though the host loses money in the end.
