Why haven't we looked at Adrian Wilson?

Recommended Posts

Because Grigson and coaching staff is content to give one of our "young bucks" the chance to start...Im just hoping for the best, Going to be an interesting season for sure

Yeah, maybe in years when you're rebuilding that should be fine but we have a legit chance at the super bowl this year. You gotta play the best most experienced players. Wilson is still good and we have a problem at safety. Pretty clear cut move I'd say. I don't like this "play the young buck" thing tbh. The Pats always play veterans and their the model franchise imo

'If we're modeling after the pats, why would we pick up a player they just released.  And if I recall, they now have to pay him some for nothing due to cutting him with bonuses still out there.

I am wondering why you made NO effort to look at Wilson`s current situation for one.

And as our GM has told ANYONE Listening, he and his talent search team are looking for any chance to improve the roster.

IMO, this makes your question totally ______. Just sayin'.

The last time Adrian Wilson produced was?  He spent all of last year hurt, I'd pick up Ed Reed before I picked him up.

Not that I am lobbying to pick up Reed.  I think someone will emerge though. Someone better than Howell hopefully

I am laughing as I write this...

I am sick of seeing publications with EXPERTS calling Landry a FS.....these guys are worthless...OK...I feel better now...

:rantoff:

Agreed Landry is a Box Safety i agree he is primarily a SS. A true FS is what is needed.

If Wilson is cut, then we're foolish not to consider him. He's still got something left!

The NE Patriots made him a free agent in April after Achilles surgery and not playing in 2013.

Injury?  34?  May not have much to give.  May be "foolish" to sign him.  DOES he have something left?

People on this board complain whenever one of our players gets hurt, but we want to sign other teams' old, injury-prone players.

Adrian Wilson would have been a good acquisition four years ago.

He would still make a solid back up or just in case pick.

He is 34 spent the entire last year on IR why would we want him?

If he can't play no price is right. Maybe his veterans salary don't fit the Colts cap space.

Best salary case scenario-  Wilson takes vet Minimum of $955,00 for one year only ( > 10 yrs experience ), with less than $65,000 in signing, roster, or workout bonuses so we can take of the Vet Min benefit, where his cap hit would only be $570,000. But, would he ever even consider playing for that?  If not, then pass...

There are very few "True" Free Safties in the game today. You're better off running a system where your safeties are interchangeable. Byrd, Thomas and McCoutry are the only truly great free safeties.....that's 3 out of 32.

The Colts are going to struggle against the pass this year. With Mathis being suspended even more so. I don't see any improvement on a roster that was 13th in PD last season, a regression in that area is likely.

Dear God...

1) How do you that they didn't and decided he is not an upgrade.

2) He is a safety whose skillset matches someone already on the roster.

3) He is washed up

The entire league decides to use the best player.  Does not matter if the player is young or experienced.

Epic fail of a thread.

He is 34 and we have good young players why bring in some old dude to cut him when you could use that spot for someone who might get better Wilson will only get older and slower

I am sure we have Grigs looks at everyone it is his job

Yes we have good players...just not very many playing the safety position. Therein lies the problem. Why bring in someone old, instead of start a younger player? Simple, talent.

Im not sayin Wilson is or is not better then the un proven players..Just stating the obvious.

What is the obvious in that statement? If there was an older player better than what we have Grigs would have brought him in he hasn't that is obvious

The answer to your question. You bring in an "old dude" because hes better then the "young dudes" and gives you a better chance to win. I never stated he or anyone else available is/was. Just simply answering your question. Nothing to do with the Colts current safety situation.

The thread was why not bring why not Adrian Wilson my response was why bring in old washed up player it was a rhetorical question didn't need an answer but thanks anyway.

Nothing to do with the Colts or the Safety position you do realize that is what the thread was about right?

If we're going to pick up a vet safety to be a backup it should be Quintin Mikell. At least he can stay healthy.

I thought Mikell had a Lisfranc foot injury that was thought to be career ending?  The old guy I think I might look at is Mike Adams at least for coverage but I don't think we are bringing anyone in unless something happens at cuts. It appears our staff likes what we have on the back end. I think Howell will surprise this year maybe Brown too sprinkle in McDonald might not be all bad.

    • No.   You weren’t.   If you were the least bit sincere, we’d be having these conversations in private.  But you’ve repeatedly ignored my efforts to do that.  Your call.      Then you avoid me until I’m in an uncomfortable conversation with another poster.   You use that awkward moment as an excuse for you to come in with some sincere friendly advice.   The problem is, you’re neither sincere, nor friendly.  And you’ve been doing this for months now.  This is not new.   The pattern is clear and obvious.     And the shame of it all is that even with our different views on Ballard we have enough in common that we should be friendly.  Maybe not friends, but friendly.  You wouldn’t need to address me as “Sir.”    “Good deed going unpunished”.  You flatter yourself.     But your actions speak much louder than your words.   There’s no reason for me to trust you.  And here we are.  A real shame.
    • In a year when the Colts were in serious need of a QB and in position to draft one, Ballard came up in front of the media 3 days before the draft and straight up said something to the effect of "That guy everybody in media is talking about(Levis), we are not taking him". I don't know why you think the Colts are trying to throw us off the scent this year specifically. They are not trying to give us away the pick(thus the vagueness), but I also don't really think they are trying to mislead anybody. This usually becomes specifically apparent in retrospect after the draft when you look back at a lot of those quotes in the videos they release pre-draft... and they were talking precisely about players we ended up drafting, which they reveal in the post-draft video by extending some of those quotes(they did that with AR last year for example).    And about why people are doing it(guessing who they are talking about) - because it is fun. Nobody has the illusion that we will be right in our guesses 100% of the time... or anywhere close really... but it's still fun. And it's part of why the Colts release those videos with those quotes - to create engagement with the fanbase... part of which, and the entirety of which that 70 pages thread and whole board is about in the offseason. is to guess who the Colts might take and how they might feel about specific prospects.
    • Sir, I was just trying to help you out. No good deed goes unpunished!
    • Not the least bit surprised to hear from you at this moment.   You see me in an uncomfortable conversation (with a moderator no less) and you seize the moment to take a shot at me.  And you try to act like you’re giving me a sincere explanation of what you’re doing.   Like you have an ounce of credibility with me.      This is not the first time you’ve done this.  While I may not be surprised, I’m certainly disappointed.
    • Things have now gone from bad to worse.     After I explained myself, I was kind of hoping you’d simply come back with “I’m sorry, I misunderstood you,  may bad.”  And we’d be done with this.  It would be over.      But instead, you double down on the roommate issue and follow up by questioning everything I said by breaking down some of my comments and what you think I really meant by them.     In other words, you’re telling me my motive, my meaning, as if you know my meaning better than I do.    It’s interesting to me…. I was recently told there’s an unofficial moderator policy:  don’t attack the poster, attack the argument.    Well, I don’t see that here.  You attacked me personally the first time and instead of a simple apology, you’ve double downed on a bad hand by attacking me personally AGAIN.      Why you’re comfortable telling me you know my meaning , my intention, better than I do is mystifying to me.  And frankly, I think you’re comfortable doing this because one of us is a moderator, and it certainly is NOT me.     I’ll say it again: you misunderstood my meaning, and intention,  the first time, and you’ve misunderstood me even worse the second time.   As I said before, I’m happy to withdraw and apologize for “go figure”, but the negative inference was not my intention.  Poorly phrased, I give you (in two posts now).   I don’t know what else to say…. I’m hoping this brings this very unfortunate exchange to an end.
