Seems to be a guy nobody on this forum is talking about but I think would be a great pick at 59 if he is still there. Led the nation in sacks, great against the run, great at setting edge, and can drop back into zone coverage. Not sure why so many other teams fans would love this guy but he isn't even mentioned here

If he projects as potentially good against the run, good setting the edge, and questionable ability in coverage, would he be even close to the highest rated player on our board at pick 59?
Since we already have Werner who is so similar and still a question mark, it would sure be tough to add Murphy if only because he is so slow.

People here are suggesting we add slower type Safeties, just not how you build this defense. We will see.

Could be that we want someone that wasn't a Cardinal or his 4.86 40 or that he looked over matched at the Senior Bowl

There are just a lot of players around 59 that look to be better suited for the pro game. To me with that 40 time is slow for LB and he is to small to be up front maybe in another draft but Attaochu or Smith in the 2nd if we go that way and Lawrence possibly still being there in the 3rd if we go O Line in the 2nd.

I know O Line isn't going to be the sexy second round pick but I could see it happening.

I don't really feel he's explosive at all. Very pedestrian in most categories. I felt that Josh Mauro who would play 3-4 DE in our system made a lot more impressive plays. I remember I saw a game where he played NT on one snap and literally threw the center to the ground. I'd take Mauro over Murphy.

I think he's (EDIT: talking about Mauro) a bit underrated.  If we had a 4th, I'd consider taking him.  Would be all over it with a 5th.

I love me some Josh Mauro....   but it's all relative.    Mauro would be great for us in the 5th round.

Murphy is a 2nd/3rd round type of guy.

He's not explosive, or athletic, and that's why he's not a 1st round guy.

But what he's got going for him is a non-stop motor.   And he functionally strong and tough as can be.

I believe he's led the nation in sacks for two straight years.   And he's been among the leaders in tackles for loss.

But, he's going to have trouble in space...  and he's not going to be able to cover a TE or a RB...  he's not going to be able to back-peddle.     And he's not a 3-4 DE.    He'd strictly be an OLB for the Colts.

I'm just not if he compliments Werner or duplicates him??    And that may make the difference.....

An O Lineman would be OK with me. It seems like they are hard to find and are very expensive when a good one becomes available. Same could be said for a corner or safety too.

Agree on everything you say here, Though I think Murphy is a little bit more agile and athletic, Certainly is more athletic and agile then Chase Thomas 2 years ago and I was relieved when we didn't bite on Thomas, I like Murphy but I dont think he is athletic enough or agile enough for us...Better then Werner and Thomas in that regard but still not good enough in my meaningless opinion
