This is very good news as long as it doesn't exceed 9 mil per year. I would maybe be ok with 10 mil per year but that would be my limit.

But locking up Davis would secure our CB position other than maybe bringing in a draftee in the later rounds. Without him, our secondary would be hurting.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Colts are "nearing a deal" with free agent RCB Vontae Davis.

La Canfora says there's "every expectation" the sides will strike an accord by Monday. If so, Davis will never make it to Tuesday's open market. Davis is seeking a contract worth in excess of $8 million per year, and perhaps closer to $10 million annually after Sam Shields broke the bank in Green Bay. Davis is better than Shields. He's also younger, turning 26 years old this May.

The national people tend to have the better inside info because they talk to agents and all that. The local team cover guys don't have that luxury

@ColtsAuth_Kyle: Well this could be interesting. National guys always got the big scoops under Polian. Same under Grigson?

@TribStarTJames: @ColtsAuth_Kyle or it could be agent talking to national writers and local reporters have contacts within team.
