Curtis Painter doesn't get my ire for one reason, which is that I have very low expectations of him. He's a 6th round pick who never gets to play or practice.

What does irritate me though, is the complete and total disappearance of guys like Wayne and Clark. I get there is going to be a drop off. But if these guys are who we've thought they were the past 10 years, they need to be the ones stepping up and leading this offense by example.

Reggie Wayne and 36 yards.

Dallas Clark had 0.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember Clark getting a single target. Did he get thrown to once tonight?

No not really, its the players that usually do that... granted the coach has an effect as well but a vocal player is more effective.

Not really. The coach is the one who sets the tone both in and out of the locker room AND on the field.

Bill Belichick is a perfect example in his "Football Life" documentary. Sometimes, he calls for 4th down late in games because he wants to send a message to his offense that he trusts them. In the facility, he hangs up numerous motivational signs and iconic New England imagery to fuel the players hunger and to provide them the right mindset. He sometimes works the sideline with a dry-erase board and kneels next to his players. During halftime, he is not afraid to tell it how it is, and he knows just the right buttons to push to get them on all cylinders. Players can NOT do these things - only a coach can.

Yes, players also set the tone, but players also lead by example, and the first person they look to is the head coach first and foremost. When Caldwell is on the sideline looking bored, that rubs off on the players, and now the players look bored too. Attitude is contagious. That attitude starts with the head coach.

Rex Ryan is another prime example. He changed a boring awful "Mangini-era" Jets team into a fired up blitz-happy intimidating opponent with his smack talk, fun-loving attitude, and will to win. The locker room really rallied around him. Players can not make guarantees or speak like he can in front of a podium. It's a cardinal sin for players to do that.

At the end of the day, a head coach can do a lot more things than a player can to fire up a team.

Thats not true, you do know that some coaches let their player have the halftime speech to the players right? during a game the head coache doesnt have time to be on the sidelines motivating his players, the leaders in the locker rooms do that...

And we arent talking about 4th downs and what not, we are talking about when you are losing or your down by a big margin, its the leaders on the team who come to you and motivaate you, like the tom brady, peyton manning, ray lewis, drew brees.... those guys have more of an impact than the coach DURING THE GAME.

Rex ryan didnt change anything either, look what his mouth got him today, they got whooped by the chargers.. the reason why the jets were successful is because they had a good defense and some pretty good skill players.

The Jets beat the Chargers, so I wouldn't say it was a whooping, unless you meant it was close. The Jets made a great rally against the Chargers, which is something the Colts have been unable to do with Caldwell, minus Manning.

Rex has also pulled out some great wins against division rival New England. Under Mangini, the Jets used to be the Pats doormat. Rex brought the Jets to being a contender.

Oh well, that's another subject though.

Wow i think i left that game early.. when i left the chargers were leading like 21 to 7 i think.. not sure.

One of the main reasons i think the jets win some of their games against their rivals is because they dont wanna make their coach look like a fool... him dubbing them a superbowl team i doubt they actually believe any of that.

They would both be among the league leaders if Manning were playing quarterback.

He has covered up the flaws in this team for years.

Funny...when I went to church this morning the message was about "hitting rock bottom". Little did I know that the Lord was trying to prepare me for tonight's Colts game! :lol:

hopefully it won't get worse from here! I'd love to hear what the Lord has in store for next weekend.

Evidently the Colts players don't care if Caldwell looks like a fool. After last night's game, the whole organization looks like one. Next!

Painter is not THE problem. He is Peyton Manning's backup. Probably the 32nd best backup....not saying much. This was a total team effort!

Can't wait to hear Polian tonight! Will he continue to tell all of us that we are uneducated naredowells that do not understand football? Or better yet, can't wait to hear the callers they pull in "Mr. Polian, first of all I want you to know that we are still 100% behind the Colts and you and coaching staff are doing a great job. The "real" fans out here are very supportive and I remember when we were 3-13 and I still believed. I think we need to just regroup and who knows, we could go on a winning streak and win the next 9 games and maybe even make the playoffs! Then we could get Peyton back for the playoffs and go on a run. In fact, this might be our greatest year ever! Please tell coach Caldwell that we have his back and "real" Colts' fans think he is doing a great job! My question for you is do you think Addai will be able to play next week? I will hang up now and listen to your answer."

He did well with the no huddle up until the fumble.

He played bad but it was more of the offensive line's fault than his fault.

He had 3 chances to make a play this game.

He overthrew a guy, he fumbled, and he hit the guy right in the hands with one pass and the guy dropped the ball.

Every 3rd down play they blitz'd Painter hard. Our line could not stop them and our receivers could not get open. Even in the replays that they showed you could see that no one was open. That isn't Painter's fault. Even our receivers aren't playing with the will to win anymore.

      I would but would want a deal where it was a third round pick, but couldn’t see Saints doing that.  Woukd have a high end CB and still have our top two picks

      nice     Edit:   Also both the trades mentioned here pretty much followed the draft value chart.     Talking trading up to #38 from #44 and offering a 4th   Difference in #38 and #44 is 60pts(avg 4th round value)   Ended up trading up to #41 from #44 for a 5th.   Difference in #41 and #44 is 30pts(avg 5th round value)

      Our defense will never be GREAT as long as we play * defense by having corners 10 yards off the ball on 3rd and 3. And an unbelievable unwillingness to blitz more than 4 times a game. And also, it doesn't matter who is in the secondary if the front seven can't stop the run(we can) and get to the passer(we did ok getting to the passer, but we need more blitzing from lb'ers). Our first pick should be an offensive lineman like Fuaga, Powers-Johnson, or Barton. Then target a receiver like Polk, Pearsall, Washington, Corley, or Roman Wilson in the second or third rounds. As much as I would like to get Bowers I just don't see it happening. And we need a very good linebacker to go along with Speed and Franklin.

      Yeah, could very well be. I think I remember Ballard said he did it to have more flexibility when asked. if it is Paye, I would rather see him play out the year before extending.

      The idea of DeJean going in the late first round is due to his instincts and overall very competent play in nearly all aspects of DB play.  Cover 3 FS is more valuable, IMO, than a cover 2 FS.   Contrast DeJean's overall RAS and talents with Hooker, who was only good at being a single high deep guy...especially his rookie year where he picked off bad QBs for a while...and DeJean at 22 or later with a 3rd round pick gathered from a trade down is a much better decision than Hooker was at 15.   BTW, Blackmon had the same ACL injury as Hooker and did well as an overall S as a rookie, but wasn't a single high speed guy, and is probably still a better overall S now than Hooker is in DAL...both having the exact same injury years ago.
