Calling it now! Grigson will swing a trade for WR...

Recommended Posts

This is pure speculation on my part so no need to lock thread or snide comments from those who love to do that, but I believe we will make a trade for WR this week....The obvious suspects include Josh Gordon of Cleveland and Hakeem Nicks of NY Giants..I believe we are the team with a standing offer to Cleveland for Gordon and it is a 2nd next year or 2015 and LaVon Brazill....Nicks can be had for a late round pick especially considering the Giants salary cap problems and no way to resign him and he is the most likely candidate....I would not be surprised if either happens, but 1 name I'll give you is Steve Smith of Carolina though...His cap hit is about 6 million next year, and we may have to include a player with a draft pick to stay under the cap but it's just intuition on my part.....Carolina is gonna go into rebuild mode and fire Rivera and we have the cap space next few years to accommodate his contract and I have a feeling Grigson is all in this year considering the TRich trade and  he won't sit on his laurels..I think he wants to replace a Vet with a vet considering the youth of this offense already and there is no 1 hungrier and more ready to have his shot than Smith and he will add that edge and toughness to the offense that wins in playoff time....Any of these 3 could be the difference in the end and I'd be happy with any, and the fans' need to have patience which they have lacked in the Richardson trade as it will take time for them to acclimate and learn the offense, but the dividends could be huge come playoff time...As much as I love Reggie and hope he can get back, the fact he tore his MCL on top of the ACL gives me doubt he can ever get back to the level we r accustomed to at his advanced age and I think Grigson knows this too...We may have witnessed Wayne's last game, and if it was at least he contributed to the defeat of Peyton.....

Adam Schefter thinks we will go ahead with what we go because after we gave up our first (for a rb) we dont have alot more we can trade, I think we go with what we got

We can replace our draft this year in FA and won't be able to get a receiver late second that will make a difference most likely, 2015 draft is 1 to watch....

I would be ticked if the Colts traded Brazill and a pick away for Gordon.

Even if Grigson traded for Gordon, I would want to keep Brazill.

Craig Kelley @CraigKColts 2h

More roster moves as Colts release TE-Dominique Jones from active roster and RB-Robert Hughes from practice squad.

Stephen Holder @HolderStephen 57s

Tight end Dominique Jones released by Colts, leaving open spot on active roster. WR obviously is an option to fill it

George Bremer @gmbremer 2h

I wonder if the #Colts have interest in recently released Lions TE Tony Sheffler. Could be a third-down option.

George Bremer @gmbremer 2h

Or Grigson could be up to something totally different, which is far more likely. Just connecting the positional dots. #Colts

Right but if Satele is down for a period of time then all we have is Mcglynn to to play Center

Unless Holmes is finally ready to take some snaps.

Why did we draft Khaled Holmes?  To play running back?

A lot of people had him as our starter after we drafted him....6'3 319......nowhere to be found...:)

Also, I do not think Satele can go on the PS....

Forgot about Holmes, I think they are saving him this season as much as they can so he can buld lower body strength, I expect he likely has the playbook and calls down by now

I agree...but they wanted to do the same with Thornton.  We had little choice though after Thomas went down.

No not Satele to PS. If we picked up a Center I think we would put him on the PS for some time , not what I meant. Also dont think Holmes is ready strength wise and it showed when we had him out there before

No problem Gav....I just saw the PS and I knew you remembered Holmes.

Like TeamLoLo says....could end up a NEED to play the way things are going.

Deion Branch.  He already lives in Carmel.  Was working out with Austin Collie last month.  Is in game condition.  Even if he was a Patriot (very bad word).  He was a SUPERBOWL MVP.  He can give the guidance our young people need and he is someone that can go out and get it done when the game is on the line.

Didn't know that...we need a vet, and I have seen him around the city a few different times could be convenient...

I don't care what Schefter thinks....he needs to stick to repeating other peoples tweets and acting like he broke the news.

He would know far more about whats going on then us just guessing(and some of us throwing out unrealistic ideas), In the end nobody REALLY knows because nobody is in control of what happens, were all taking a wait and see approach including him

I could easily see another trade happening.  The Steve Smith idea is interesting but I don't think Grigson would deal away a high draft pick for a 34 year old WR.  Also, I agree with you that fans need to be patient.  Many have been very impatient with guys like Fleener, Montori Hughes, Werner, Richardson...oh and Pep Hamilton too.  Patience is key.  None of these guys were going to be hall of famers right out of the gate.  :number1:

If we get Steve Smith do our Super Bowl odds increase??? And, if so, how much in your opinion?? I think we need his attitude on offense...Similar to Redding's of defense...

I've got no problem with Steve Smith and sure he would help to improve the team.  That wasn't the point.  The point was that I don't see Grigson sending a valuable draft pick for a 34 year old WR.  Grigson has made 2 splashy trades, sending a 2nd for Davis and a 1st for Richardson.  Both players are still young enough to be a part of the rebuilding for the long term.  They are not stop gap players.  Smith would be a stop gap player.

    • The closer we are getting to the draft the more I see Turner being projected outside the top 10. Still, Latu is a gamble - he was medically retired after his sophomore season and told he would never play football again due to a neck injury, Transferred to UCLA and was eventually cleared. He just seems like the type of player who has the goods, but will fall in the draft due to health concerns.
    • There's a lot of analysis to be done here, IMO. I don't know all the answers, but some questions that should be addressed are what's the difference between the success rate of a first round pick and that of a second/third round pick, historically? How do you value that difference? I think I've seen stats that say first rounders are starters at a higher rate than other rounds, but is that influenced by the bias of the team that drafted the player in the first round? (Probably.) It's probably fair to say that the players taken in the first round are more likely to be difference makers than the players taken later, but I think there are position groups where the difference is negligible, and I think WR is one of them.   And then, if you get into a climate where everyone is selling in the first round, then the value probably flips at some point.    Also, I don't necessarily think of the draft as a crap shoot. Yes, it's arbitrary, but I think some front offices are good at drafting, and some are bad at drafting; but the difference isn't as wide as general perception would indicate. And there are lots of dependent variables -- coaching, health, etc. -- that influence the outcome of each pick.    I do think more picks is the way to go to maximize value. But to build the best roster? That's a different arm of the discussion. Like you said later on, we've been trading down, and we don't have a great roster.    You also make a good point about the rookie contract vs trading for an established player, and that's not to be ignored. But my point is that if you're going to base your appetite for risk on your level of conviction in the player, I'd rather take the big swing on the established player than on a draft prospect, despite the difference in contract status. The ideal mix is to target a second or third year WR so you can at least get some of the rookie contract. Ballard reportedly asked for Jaylen Waddle and Christian Watson last year.
    • I really don’t see that type of Defensive player in this draft. But there’s always surprises. But I agree, we’ve got to go offensive fire power this year. At least in the first.
    • If they want to beat the Texans they will
