Duh of course because he wasnt going to start we already had an idea who was gonna start....we didnt make alot of theses moves in free agency just for someone to be benched with the 3rd string team

You miss the point. It's not about who starts or who doesn't.  You would like to find guys however that can perform if needed against a starting unit from another team.  Knowing who is going to start in preseason gives you even more incentive to let guys like Rayford or whoever else  get time against starting offenses. The whole purpose of the preseason is to see if guys can play.  A lot of guys can play against 3rd teams.

The biggest bummer is that Rayford was the feel good story of the preseason...

Fans get intrigued when an UDFA, CFL, or arena league player get brought in over the off season and shed the "camp-fodder" label and actually produce during the preseason games...

That is what the preseason is for in my opinion, & Ceasar was "that" guy this year. He looked like he could actually produce and become a playmaker, maybe not a pro-bowler, but he looked like he could be a valuable player...

anyways, I hope Cesar does well in Dallas, (can't believe I just wrote "does well" & "dallas" in the same sentence), and hopefully Cam Johnson can help create some pass rush for the Colts...

In perspective this is nice news. We grabbed a guy from the arena league and got a draft pick out of him.

That's what I was thinking.  I can't stand the Cowboys, but I wish him well.  I really liked his attitude, yet I think he had a way to go as a linebacker.

Ryan Grigson is trigger happy on trades.

I think he wakes up everyday thinking 'Who can I trade/Trade for today'?

After years of no moves from Polian, Grigson can almost frustrate you by never stopping.

Well, I think that as a GM, you always have to be looking into trades with other teams, and they in fact do.  I mean, they don't enter formal negotiations on a weekly basis, but GMs are ALWAYS talking to one another.  If you're always looking for ways to make your team better, I've got no issue with it.  On the flip side, as you say, being "trigger happy" on trades isn't always a good thing.  But you never really know the benefit, or lack thereof, of any trade without the benefit of hindsight.

No way Grigson made this trade. He wouldn't have done this to one of HIS guys like Rayford. He must have scouted Cam Johnson and split a hppy meal with him or something. It's all politics.

So I guess that was supposed to be a shot at me, huh? I won't take the bait. No need to derail the thread, despite the attempt

Good one though

I'm starting to see a patern for trading guys we kinda know ( from TC and PS ) for guys we don't really know. I know its not a direct trade but for example Justice for Doyle ( might be a good move here ) and then Rayford for a conditional pick( complete unknown here ).

Could be great moves, bad moves, or minimal affect moves. I just hope Grigs doesn't overvalue other teams players or the potential of conditional draft picks.

It's ironic Dallas was the suitor in this trade (4-3 Tampa 2 defense) One can only wonder what we could've got for Nevis from them... Had we actually kept him on the roster long enough to trade him. Maybe we could've packaged both players for a higher pick?

    • Any chance we take a OT with the 1st pick?
    • FWIW:   Today I listened to a guy from The Athletic interviewed on ESPN.   (Darren Lee). He said interviewing GMs at the combine, almost all view DeJean as a safety except two teams.  He thinks the Colts and Jags view DeJean as a corner.     I don’t know this reporter, never seen him before, so I can’t speak to his credibility.  But it sounds like he did a lot of homework.     And I appreciate your view on pro day times being reliable or not.   I’m always skeptical on pro days.  But I thought DeJean helped himself on his testing.
    • I could care less what he does. Been too long ago.
    • I’m with ya..     I'm not sure we’re going WR at 15 either.  I think we could go DE, and it’s possible we could go CB as well.   Gosh,  I love Mitchell and really like Arnold as well.  And if we trade back I would be fine with McKinstry or a DE on defense or one of the 2nd tier of WRs that could be there in the 20’s.  So many options.   I keep reminding myself, every pick could produce a surprise, because I think Ballard will have so many options to choose from.      Im also not sure Ballard will use all 7 rounds.   He finished in 5 rounds in his first draft 2017,  and he finished in 6 rounds in 2019.   Maybe he uses all 7 rounds, but I’m not confident we will.     One week from tonight.
    • My Final Mock Draft   15. Brock Bowers, TE,  6’4 245 Lbs, Georgia - Blue Chip Prospect.  Rare combination of acceleration, speed and body control. Hands-catcher operating with good coordination and technique. With Pittman on the outside Bowers will control the middle of the field and seams. AR Will develop much quicker into a top 10 QB with Bowers as his TE.  46. TJ Tampa, CB, 6’1, 190 Lbs, Iowa State - Elite physical traits. Plays with good positioning throughout routes. Very good in press Coverage and Zone. Expect him to compete in training camp and be named a starter.      82. Calen Bullock, S, 6’2 190 lbs, USC - Elite physical traits. He has the range to play single-high safety, the athleticism to line up over the slot and the ball skills to chalk up impressive on-ball production. Expect him to compete in training camp for the starting S position.    117. Tez Walker,  WR,  6’2 195 Lbs, UNC - Elite speed with very good body control. Career average of 30.7 yards on touchdown receptions. Gives us very good depth and competition with Pierce.    151. Grayson Murphy, DE, 6’3 260 Lbs, UCLA - Shows impressive quickness and change of direction to help turn speed to power as a rusher. Good depth.    191.  Keaton Bills, G, 6’5 320 Lbs, Utah - Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front. Very good depth.
