Serious question - honesty required

Recommended Posts

I'm in Houston on business this week and my new colleagues, who I have yet to meet are taking me to the Saints game today at no cost to me (how terrific is that!). The snag is that they are insisting I buy some type of Texans gear and wear it to the game. They know I'm a Colt.

The big question is, if I agree, and I buy a hat, will I have to change my user name to ColinKaepernick?

4 teams you can't wear gear from:

. Texans

. Titans

. Jags

. Patriots

Would have to say no to it being acceptable. Although if you do have to wear it for your job then changing you Profile name to Colin Kaepernick for maybe 1/2 weeks is an acceptable penance.

New business colleagues; Texans,  They are just testing your resolve.

Or you could just be the "nice guy" and do what they ask wear the hat to the game, then afterwards give it to a youngster who would really appreciate having it.

Honestly I think they are just testing you, us Yanks do that kind of thing.

That is just sacrilegious. You should have your Colts fan card taken away just for thinking about it.

Free ticket? Buy the hat, then donate it to Goodwill after the game. If the Colts were playing in the game, I might think differently, but its not like you might contract Texans-itis by wearing a hat for a few hours.

Show them you're a man of principle. Wear your Luck jersey without compromise. They will respect you, despite the possibility they could receive your notion as poor judgement.

Man of principle or a gracious recipient of some very fine hospitality. Oh, the dilemma!

braveheartcolt I agree with the poster that said to just get a hat and then give it to a child after the game and you can kill two birds with one stone.  Have a good time at the game. :)

Don't do it..... It starts with a hat, then next thing you know you have face paint on with a Watt jersey screaming at him to break Luck's leg..... My sugestion, quit your job!!!! I'm just kidding I wouldn't do it because I hate the Texans, Jaguars, Titans, Patriots and Jets but I wouldn't hold anything against you

I believe your contemporaries are requiring a punishment both unusual and cruel.......a traitorous act in exchange for goods and/or services rendered as it were.....I would tailgate in purity outside of the stadium before sitting in the lap of the enemy LOL

I don't believe it matters. They are giving you free tickets to a game.

I think they would find it rude if you didn't put on what they asked.

If you feel your fandom ripping away at you, go and put on something Colts related, and I think you might feel better about it.

I wouldn't do it. But I also wouldn't take a fan of another team to a Colts game a ask them to wear Colts anything. I hate when non-fans wear Colts apparel.

And even if you got something that no one would see, you would still know. And that's enough for me to not do it. If they wont respect u sayin come on guys Im a Colts fan, then they would  respect u even less for putting on anything Texans.

That's just my view through the biased eyes of a die-hard Colts fan :blueshoe:

    • Because I’ve been a Colts fan for a long time and Jim Irsay has never had an issue spending money.  Ballard has also said over and over again he was saving his money to pay his own.  This isn’t breaking news.  So rather buy into some idea that he was fine with spending money under Tobin, Polian, and Grigson but is no longer fine with spending money under Ballard just doesn’t add up when you look at his history and what Ballard said.  It’s much more logical to assume that’s he’s spending what Ballard wants like he has with his previous GMs especially when the GM tells you he doesn’t believe in splash free agents and is saving his money to sign his own.   Irsay doesn’t negotiate the contracts.  Ballard does so contract structuring is done by Ballard and Ballard has done it in away to give him cap flexibility that is going to allow him to keep guys like Nelson, Leonard, Smith and others over the next couple of years.    Also Jim Irsay is worth 3 billion dollars he’s not hurting for money.   You want to see an organization that doesn’t want to spend money look across town where Simon won’t even let the Pacers look at the luxury tax.  That’s an owner who doesn’t want to spend.
    • I’m not sure why you find it hard to accept that the Colts may have cash flow problems?  Not that they can’t manage them, but still….   Irsay is one of the few owners who doesn’t have any other source of big income.   No high tech company.  No real estate development.   No oil and gas.   His wealth is owning the Colts.   That’s it.    Sure he may he may spend money, but these last five years he now uses a pay-go system that lends itself to managing money.  We used to give bigger SB’s under Grigson.   Now,  we give either small or no signing bonuses.   Very few teams do that.  And we’re a very small market franchise.   You weren’t the least bit surprised to see DeForest Buckner accept a ZERO signing bonus?   I sure was.     Point of clarification:  none of what I’ve written is proof of anything.   But I think it’s at least worth considering, and you seem completely unwilling to even do that.  I confess find that surprising.
    • Just because they had money left over doesn’t mean Irsay had a problem spending it had Ballard wanted too.  It doesn’t take that hard of a look back at Irsay’s history of owner to see he has zero problem spending what his GM wants to spend.
    • That's not exactly true if you consider cap space left over. IIRC, we had the most unspent or near most unspent over a 3-4 year period just recently (IIRC, 16, 17, 18, 19). Pretty sure we had 40+M unspent two years in a row.   IIRC, we carried over the most in the league again this year at around 30M.   It was also speculated that we 1) didn't ask Luck for money back, AND 2) gave JB such a big raise, was because we would have been too far under the 89% rule had we not done both 1 and 2.
    • Regardless Irsay has never been shy about spending to make the Colts better.  So either way the first point that started all this is irrelevant.
