So then which QB has the highest ceiling for football IQ? Work ethic? Leadership? Physical attributes? Who do you take #1 if you can't trade out?

I'll answer your other questions about the different QB prospects when I get a chance, but for now i'll say if no one is willing to trade up for Luck (which I don't believe would happen) then I would take Alshon Jeffrey at this point. He's currently the #2 overall prospect and is considered the next Calvin Johnson. He's a guy who could make an impact now and continue to make an impact when the new QB comes in. Having a WR of that caliber would make life a lot easier for a QB getting adjusted to the NFL game.

I have said over and over that come draft day, they will have a much better idea of how his health is and where he is at from a recuperation standpoint. If they feel at that time that he will not return to his pre-injury form, then this changes things. Just like I don't know, right now, that Manning will ever return to his previous form, you don't know that he won't. However, I think it's pretty safe to say that they will at least have a pretty good idea come draft day.

I think whats being missed here is regardless of whether they have a better idea of where his health is or not, the man will be 36 yrs. old next season. He has now suffered a serious injury that could have many lingering effects on him and 1 bad hit could end his career. Now sure 1 bad hit could happen to anybody but a much younger player could at least have a chance to rehab much longer and come back.

Were at the point in Mannings career that you just can't simply overlook an injury and say "oh well, he'll be back next season". It has to be prepared for now and if the Colts are in the situation to pick 1st then the wisest choice would be to draft Luck. You just can't say "we'll pass on the absolute best and take our chances on a much lesser prospect later". That's just not a smart business decision.

2 points....personally, I don't believe he is the "best"...the most NFL ready? Yes but overall the best AND the best choice for the Colts? No I don't believe that at this point. I also never said take a chance on a "much lesser" prospect later. There's a big difference between a guy with an awkward throwing motion out of a spread offense (both things the experts will look at and use to consider the QB not nfl ready) and a "much lesser" prospect.

Jason you're a good poster and I enjoy reading most of the things you write, but im going to trust my own eyes and virtually every single professional scout in the game that says Luck is indeed heads and shoulders above every other prospect(even non QB's). Luck is going to be an amazing QB in the NFL(no matter where he ends up) and I just hope the Colts have the insight to make him our next QB if they get the chance.

Alshon Jeffery would be another great choice, big, physical, has speed, great hands the complete package.

I'm simply doing the same thing. :)

**edit...do you have any links to the professional scouts that say he is "head and shoulders above the rest"? I ask because this isn't what I've taken from what I've read. The reports I've ready talk about his NFL-readiness, and in that regard perhaps they are saying he's that far ahead of the other top prospects, but I've yet to see one that clearly and concisely says that he is either far and away more intelligent, has that much better of a work eithic or has that[ much better physical ability. They all point to his readiness to start from day one but not one that I've read says he is that much more physically or mentally talented. I ask this not to be argumentative but out of genuine curiosity because I'd like to read them, and I'd like to read the reports from the same authors on the other top prospects.
