We have 7 picks in the next draft

Defense we need to give Manning or whoever is behind center a decent D

I see lots of posts about our need for defense. They are almost always about personnel. I feel we have good personnel. I see no real bumbs and plenty of speed and talent on our D. I think this is a scheme problem and a defensive philosophy problem. I think Colts fans want a 3-4, very aggressive, blitzing defensive that stops the run and makes plays similar to Ravens. We have the players to do that IMO. We play a cover 2. This defense is designed to give up plays underneath and allow the opposing team to march up and down the field and kick field goals. I really think this whole argument boils down to a difference in the fans vision of defense and the colts coordinators vision of defense. I would love to see a new defensive coordinator with a new philosophy on that side of the ball.

we should trade down if we get 1st pick and get late 1st round and 2nd round and next years 1st round from them . This draft we need to draft some CB's.

lol. Luck is worth at least a 2012, 2013, 2014 1st round, and a 2012, 2013 2nd round at the very least. and even then i wouldn't trade for that for a once in a blue moon opportunity to get Peyton Manning 2.0. The only way i'd trade that #1 pick is if we got some other top defensive team's entire defense straight up.

Including the DC and associate coaches! Too bad the Packers/Ravens/Steelers still have decent quarterbacks.

Why would the Colts, or their fans, want that type of a defensive scheme when the entire NFL is becoming a spread-pass happy league that eats 3-4's for breakfast?

The scheme itself doesn't auto-do-better than another. It is the combined coaching and personnel running said scheme. We don't have a push from the NT spot, we don't have CB's that can cover their zone, and our DE's are typically a liability against the run because of their size and skill set. When we do have run-stopping DE's in play, opposing teams are just checking out of the run. We need a better front 4, period. Moala and Nevis were good starts, but now we need 3-down DE's who can play both the run and the pass. That's hard to find, and thus warrant high draft picks/FA splashes. The former is always the smarter choice among the two.

Castonzo finished 3 years of clege football as a left tackle, however, and seemed to be marginally better there. Kalil is a superfluous pick.

I agree.I think our o-line is fine.We just need to stay healthy and put a unit on the field that will last longer than a couple of games.I think we've been making too many changes recently to our line(largely due to injuries,i know). But concerning the draft,we just have to go all out on the D side(with cousins thrown in somewhere). If we lose wayne this off season, then i see us making a bid for welker and moving collie to the outside.Regardless either he or mathis is gone next year. But on the brightside,we'll get some comp picks.

What? Why do we need Cousins? Why on Earth do we need Welker? Why on I guess Earth again do we move Collie to the outside when he is a slot receiver? And finally why on the 3rd planet from the sun can't we resign both Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis?

Are you serious? We will lose one,if not both of those guys. They simply cost too much money and they're old.Would you be upset if we make a bid for welker? The reason that i feel we move collie to the outside is to prolong his career and limit the possiblity of concussions.I would like to retain painter, but i believe he'll want to start elsewhere, with a team that will give him that opportunity. The best choice for our future quarterback is to draft cousins and allow him to sit, watch, study and learn from manning.

We can easlily resign both Wayne and Mathis... why do you think they let go of Kelvin Hayden? Use facts not guesses please in your analysis of what the players want or don't want.

    • Any chance we take a OT with the 1st pick?
    • FWIW:   Today I listened to a guy from The Athletic interviewed on ESPN.   (Darren Lee). He said interviewing GMs at the combine, almost all view DeJean as a safety except two teams.  He thinks the Colts and Jags view DeJean as a corner.     I don’t know this reporter, never seen him before, so I can’t speak to his credibility.  But it sounds like he did a lot of homework.     And I appreciate your view on pro day times being reliable or not.   I’m always skeptical on pro days.  But I thought DeJean helped himself on his testing.
    • I could care less what he does. Been too long ago.
    • I’m with ya..     I'm not sure we’re going WR at 15 either.  I think we could go DE, and it’s possible we could go CB as well.   Gosh,  I love Mitchell and really like Arnold as well.  And if we trade back I would be fine with McKinstry or a DE on defense or one of the 2nd tier of WRs that could be there in the 20’s.  So many options.   I keep reminding myself, every pick could produce a surprise, because I think Ballard will have so many options to choose from.      Im also not sure Ballard will use all 7 rounds.   He finished in 5 rounds in his first draft 2017,  and he finished in 6 rounds in 2019.   Maybe he uses all 7 rounds, but I’m not confident we will.     One week from tonight.
    • My Final Mock Draft   15. Brock Bowers, TE,  6’4 245 Lbs, Georgia - Blue Chip Prospect.  Rare combination of acceleration, speed and body control. Hands-catcher operating with good coordination and technique. With Pittman on the outside Bowers will control the middle of the field and seams. AR Will develop much quicker into a top 10 QB with Bowers as his TE.  46. TJ Tampa, CB, 6’1, 190 Lbs, Iowa State - Elite physical traits. Plays with good positioning throughout routes. Very good in press Coverage and Zone. Expect him to compete in training camp and be named a starter.      82. Calen Bullock, S, 6’2 190 lbs, USC - Elite physical traits. He has the range to play single-high safety, the athleticism to line up over the slot and the ball skills to chalk up impressive on-ball production. Expect him to compete in training camp for the starting S position.    117. Tez Walker,  WR,  6’2 195 Lbs, UNC - Elite speed with very good body control. Career average of 30.7 yards on touchdown receptions. Gives us very good depth and competition with Pierce.    151. Grayson Murphy, DE, 6’3 260 Lbs, UCLA - Shows impressive quickness and change of direction to help turn speed to power as a rusher. Good depth.    191.  Keaton Bills, G, 6’5 320 Lbs, Utah - Cerebral player, quick to react to twists and stunts up front. Very good depth.
