Official Training Camp thread (mega merge)

I heard Chap say a month or so ago Fleener was 10 lbs lighter...    and will be used accordingly.

Not doubting it, he just looked "fuller" in the face, must just be the pic. Not saying it was a bad thing either if he's bulked a bit, he's going to get hit over the middle whatever and people's biggest criticism of him was that he shied away from contact .

If I'm not mistaken this is the "Colts training camp thread -- 7/31," not the Marino vs Bradshaw vs 1 yr experience Luck thread. And if I read the word "Elite" one more time...Sova!

:)  Good first post....

That word does get tiresome on the old LBs eyes and ears (Notice I did not say the word :))

Does this mean Josh McNary hasn't been doing well?

@andrewmishler: I get that Josh McNary is a cool story and everything, but I don't really understand the obsession with him from a football standpoint.

:scratch::eek:

From the tape I've seen he looks very fast and is very good at finding the correct gaps to attack when rushing/ blitzing. In college he try to find a gap from the OLBer position which seems kinda weird but makes sense the coaches are trying to see what he can do at ILB. Could be a diamond in the ruff.

I've been watching the pictures on Colts.com, and the current 2nd team OL appears to be:

LT: Brad Sowell.  Ijalana appeared to be demoted to 3rd team yesterday.

LG: Reitz

C: Schmeig

RG: Linkenbach.  He's been there since Day 2.

RT: Cleary.  He's gotten the nod over Anderson the entire camp.

If it's any different today, I'd like to hear it!

Clyde Christensen providing "defense" as DHB works on JUGS machine today. Coach shoving and pushing WR while ball in air. #ColtsCamp

Glad to see this. I want this kid to succeed.

Can we get Chris Carter as a "hands" coach for the WR's this training camp? (And by WR's, I just mean DHB, lol)

@mchappell51: #colts will carry a fullback this season. I'm not kidding. http://t.co/oRdMbxTFzg

As training camp began to unfold at Anderson University, Dominique Jones, a 270-pounder, was moved from tight end to fullback.

Interesting.

And for those who wonder why we're trying to hard to emphasize the run game:

Pagano recalled the Colts’ final possession of the 2012 regular season. It was an exhausting 15-play drive that consumed the final 9 minutes, 46 seconds and sealed a 28-16 win over the Houston Texans. Fourteen of the plays were runs, including three game-closing kneel-downs by Luck. Allen usually was the lead blocker.

“I’ve never in my life seen a nine-minute, 46-second drive to get a knee,” Pagano said. “We’ve got to have that ability ... to run the football late in the season.”

@andrewmishler: Remember the days when the Colts 2nd and 3rd team offenses couldn't do anything in the preseason? Won't happen this year. Not with these QBs

@andrewmishler: Rookie OG Hugh Thornton is out of a boot, but isn't practicing. Greg Toler, LaVon Brazill, Mario Harvey and Sergio Brown also not practicing

@andrewmishler: First time I've seen Kerwynn Williams in punt drills, I believe. He's going to have to show he can do something there to hold of Sambrano.

@andrewmishler: It's like magic. As soon as I say something nice about all 3 QBs, Harnish starts missing easy throws in passing drills.

take protection for his ears  ... Drives me nuts when I set up these events... concerts, rodeo's, sports events and people bring their children ( especially the infants ) to events with no ear protection...  was at a race last month with silver crown and a 8 month had no protection...  NIN years ago and lead singer had his new baby 3 months old under the stage with mom no protection....unbelievable...

Totally crazy...

No offense to the poster, but I really don't understand why people take babies to these kinds of events.  They have no understanding of what's going on, they won't remember a thing about it, and they can't possibly be comfortable.

Again, no offense, it's your child.  I just don't understand the logic.

Same with autographs. Those mobs can get pretty tight. I would not dare go in there with a baby.

@andrewmishler: Had to take a leave from practice for a second. Bad timing. I'm told Vontae Davis intercepted a deep luck pass intended for Hilton.

@andrewmishler: And in typical Luck fashion, he goes right back to the deep ball and hits Reggie Wayne for a long pass over Cassius Vaughn.

    • I would personally like to see more bootlegs, and more throws on the run. AR is SO good at that.   Especially since they love playing out of shotgun so much.
    • Army is playing mistake free football, very impressive so far. One of a handful of unbeaten Group of 5 schools.
    • Quick listing of my top defensive players after 4 weeks.  Enjoy and time to enjoy the weekend.     2025 NFL Draft DL/Edge LDEdge Jared Ivey (Ole Miss) 6’6” 285 pounds NT Rene Konga (Louisville) 6’4” 290 pounds RDEdge Princely Umanmielen (Ole’ Miss) 6’4” 255 pounds Edge/LB David Walker (Central Arkansas) 6’2” 260 pounds Edge/LOLB Josaiah Stewart (Michigan) NT/DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss) – 6’4” 290 pounds LDEdge Ashton Gillotte (Louisville) 6’3” 275 pounds LDEdge Jack Sawyer (OSU) 6’4” 265 pounds DT 3-tech Tyleik Williams (OSU) 6’3” 327 pounds 3- 4 RDT Vernon Broughton (Texas) 6’4” 305-pounds DT-3T T.J. • Once again running out time to put out a complete list of both offense and defensive players and where I have them ranked among their peers.  Common theme from original pre-college Week 1 many of the top players are not even listed or have fallen sharply after around 4 weeks of playing.    2025 NFL Draft QBs Cam Ward - Miami (FL) - Ward’s 3x300 games in a row have earned him 3-straight 90.0+ passing grades.  Jaxson Dart (MISS)  Diego Pavia (Vandy) - after 4 weeks and is R2 in the SEC ahead of Ewers, Manning, Milroe, Nussmeier, and Carson Beck.  Thrown 6 TDs no INTs, recovered 3 teammate fumbles. Ben Wooldridge (Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns) Noah Fiftia (Arizona)  KJ Jefferson (UCF) Tyler Shough (Louisville)  Cam Miller (NDST) Kyle McCord (Syracuse)   2025 NFL Draft OL LG Michael McAninch (Air Force) - After 3 weeks has a 91.7 overall season grade with a 92.4 RB grade.  Proved he can hold up to Baylor didn’t allow any QB pressure. RT Tyler Needham (Rutgers) 6’4” 306-pounds – After 3 weeks been dominant.  On 48 PB snaps only given up 1 QB hurry. LT/RT/OG Grey Zabel (North Dakota State) RT Lucas Scott (Army) 6’3” 305-pounds – After 3 weeks has an 85.2 RB grade.  Figure the Army trains more hand-to-hand combat and could be decent in PB game as well. LG Joshua Gray (Oregon State) LG Donovan Jackson (OSU) - good to see Jackson play again and display his dominance in his return to action. OT Wyatt Milum (West Virginia) RG Luke Kandra (Cincinnati) RG Tate Ratledge (Georgia LT Kelvin Banks Jr (Texas) LG Dylan Fairchild (Georgia) LT Percy Lewis (Auburn) 6’7” 355-pounds – After 4 weeks on 85 snaps has a 78.5 grade as a backup. OC Jake Slaughter (Florida) LT Josh Simmons (OSU)   2025 NFL Draft RBs RB/WR-KR Brashard Smith (Southern Methodist) 5’10” 196 pounds - Smith already has 17 missed tackles, 3rd most among all college RBs. RB Ashton Jeanty (Boise St) 5’9” 215-pounds  RB Quinshon Judkins (OSU) 6’0 219-pounds RB Jonah Coleman (Washington) RB RJ Harvey (UCF) 5’9” 208-pounds RB Ja’Quinden Jackson (Arkansas) 6’2” 233-pounds – Issues fumbling RB Treveyon Henderson (OSU) 5’10” 208 pounds RB Devin Neal (Kansas) 5’11” 215 pounds RB Omarion Hampton (UNC) 6’0” 220 pounds RB Nicholas Singleton (PSU) 6’0” 227 pounds RB Jo’Quavious “Woody” Marks (USC) 5’10 208-pounds   2025 NFL Draft WRs WR-Z Tai Felton (Maryland) WR-X Tre Harris (Mississippi) WR-X Ricky White (UNLV) WR-SL Nick Nash (San Jose State) WR-X Tetairoa McMillian (Arizona) WR-Z Kobe Hudson (UCF) WR-SL Kaedin Robinson (App St) WR-SL Xavier Restrepo Miami (FL) WR-X Andrew Armstrong (Arkansas) WR-M/ST PR-KR Jaylin Noel (Iowa St) WR-X Jayden Higgins (Iowa St) WR-Y Emeka Egbuka (OSU)   2025 NFL Draft TE TE Harold Fannin Jr. (Bowling Green) - outproduced rest of TE class against top 25 ranked teams and single-handedly beat PSU.  Prior to week 4 R1 I total yards (204) and YAC with 131. TE Tyler Warren (PSU) TE Jalin Conyers (Texas Tech) - After 3 weeks has an 83.7 overall PFF grade and with Texas Tech excelling in run-blocking.
