You are assuming his failure to continue his level of play in the first half, there is the other concern of him, the league had tape and time to address and attack all his weak spots. So was his play bad solely due to that injury? Only CB and Reich know that for sure as I’m sure they know what % he was injured. I personally think the league got him figured out more so than his injury caused his second half slide. Having no receivers to throw to also was a factor but I’d guess that Rivers will be more capable of making avg receivers look better because he has accuracy and quick release. JB does neither of those. The league figures that out too. The thing that JB was good at, toughness inside the pocket, just enough wiggle to get out and the ability to get that one yard at 4&1 when needed using the QB sneak. He is also likable by his teammates. If only he didn’t make 21.5 million this season, he would be a great guy to have on the bench and in the locker room.
I am not saying I don't like DL. Everyone says watch Ballard. I have watched Ballard's drafts and I mayb off base, but based on his drafting, he believes he can get LB talent in the later rounds. To play lb in this system does not demand a player b in the Patrick Willis mold. Those type of players r top 10 picks. Lbs that play this system are basically safeties. The players in that mold can b found in later rounds. If DL wants big money, I would let him walk. When he drafted Nelson, he passed on a talent like Roquan Smith. How do u think he would have played in this system with all his athletic traits? All I am trying to say is that I believe lbs that fit this system can b found in later rounds. It's not like u r trying to replace Patrick Willis. That demands a top 5 pick. Just my 2 cents
