Ill admit, its way far off to be thinking about the next draft in almost 12 months, but its also good to start collecting thoughts about what's next and get up on your starting observations, opinions, etc. Leave any comments about who's gonna get picked early, what we should do, or just any random thought at all. Were starting this now.

I was thinking of next year's draft more in terms of finding explosive players for the perimeter....  not in any order at this moment...

OLB  (eventually for Mathis; depends on his year)

WR    (eventually for Wayne)

S       (eventually for Bethea)

CB    (eventually for depth)

RB    (eventually for Brown)

And, as a reminder,  next year,  we're already down a 4th round draft pick.   Those 5 possible picks take the Colts through six rounds.

Just food for thought....    (and, btw,  it's never too early to be thinking about the 2014 draft!)

some 2014 FAs we might need to replace through the draft (or re-sign, of course):

Bethea

Angerer

Conner

Brown

DHB

Davis

Franklin

McAfee

Moala

Reitz

Sidbury

Lefeged

Link

Vinitieri

Some of those guys are more important than others, but I expect all to make the 53 man roster this season... there are others as well, but once you get down to Link and Lefeged you start wondering how hard some will really be to replace...but add that list to the list of aging veterans and it seems like this roster will see significant turnover every season for the foreseeable future...

Because of all the FAs and aging guys, it is hard to determine what our biggest needs for 2014 will be... We might let some players like Bethea, Brown, or Angerer price themselves out and spend high draft picks to replace them, or we might try to re-sign our younger FAs and try to find Reggie and Redding's replacements in the draft... We will undoubtedly bring in some outside FAs as well...

Its interesting to think about, but impossible to predict... My hope is that we can keep unearthing hidden gems in the later rounds of the draft and UDFA to replace role players while bringing in game changers with our higher picks... I think that Luck is going to be good enough to carry a poor team into the playoffs, but we will need talent and depth all over the field in order to rule the South and make it back to the promised land......

Some say that QB is the most important position on any football team, but I tend to think that the GM and HC are much more important and potentially valuable.... Let's hunt!

Potential 1st Round Options

1) Ed Reynolds

Trailertrash....

Want to thank you for the Stanford porn....

Not sure any of those guys will end up as 1st round talents....   hope they will,  but it's too soon to know...

Skov is closer to 235 right now than he is 250.   He was 250 a couple of years ago.

There's another player who merits consideration....  Ed Reynolds' (FS)  running mate...  SS Jordan Richards.    Keep him on your radar as well.

4 possible high round defensive draft picks from Stanford.

All definitly good lists in my opinion....a couple things

1.I'd love to get Kyle Van Noy but I think he will have to put on weight and add strength to play as a 3-4 OLB, Something I believe he can easily do but Im sure he would have to do to play the position, WOuld love to draft him if we could

2.The only MCcullers I know of plays for Tennessee and he weighs 377lbs, It would not surprise me a bit if he ate himself out of the league and that he winds up a late round pick because of scouts and GM's who may fear that very thing plus he only has 1 year under his belt of college football according to his profile at ESPN

Ill be looking alot at all the guys I can on these lists

Also when naming players not everyone knows a player by there last name, It helps to have there first and last name, It just makes them easier to look up, Thanks

I think will draft either a CB or WR, that will be our 2 biggest needs going into the draft.

1.  Reggie Wayne will be 36 next year and DHB will be a free agent. I would like for us to trade up for Marqise Lee i think he's going to be great but if we can't, i'd be ok with drafting Sammy Watkins or Brandon Colemen.

2. Davis is entering his final year of his contract and we don't know if Toler can stay healthy a full season. Aaron Colvin would be a great addition to the secondary.

The mocks for 2014 I've seen have us picking anywhere from 13 to 26. Any thought on where we will be picking?

Low to mid 20's again.....

Not far from where we picked this year.

That's where a 10 to 11 win season will put you.

Give it a week, we will start hearing about prospects from the 2015 draft

26 sounds about right for where we'll be picking. And now I'm really getting into Trent Murphy, OLB Stanford (another Stanford alum). He looks great rushing the qb and in coverage, and I think it's hilarious how he's basically a Bjoern Werner clone.

Except, he's got the size of JJ (s)Watt. 6'6, 270 lbs, put another 10-15 pounds on him, and is a JJ (s)Watt clone. If we do select him, and/or maybe Skov, this is what our front-7 will look like:

Werner           M. Hughes            Chapman              Francois             T. Murphy

                                                                                    K. Conner (or Skov)     Freeman

Height and weight alone don't automatically classify you into a position. JJ Watt's 270 pounds coming out of college could have landed him at OLB, but his brute strength (and weight gain) made him the best 3-4 DE in the league today.  We have Bjoern Werner's 266 pounds with better elusiveness playing at OLB. Demarcus Ware's at 254, and Terrell Suggs is at 260, so Werner can be similar to them as well.

Sorry. Meant to talk about Murphy, not Werner.

I like Donte Moncrief, WR from Ole Miss. I could see him being the replacement for Wayne if he decides to come out next year. 6-2, 214 lbs and 4.4 speed. Perhaps he can be had in the early/mid second.

Moncrief certainly looks impressive, i just wish there was more on him that a video showing a great catch and another 2:25 minute video on youtube but I like what I saw, Hew showed ability to make tough catches, decent route running and ability to chage speed on his cuts but again, a short video, I'd like to see if he can do it consistently
