Daxton Swanson

Many people are saying how good Swanson is and how he will make the roster and replace Vaughn and/or Gordy, which is fine with me. but the colts roster has Swanson listed as a safety. Do you believe the colts will use him as a safety and if so, do you think he will he be any good?

I think Swanson has okay cover skills to me(not that great), but not much of a tackler. He was an all american at Sam Houston State. When I watch film off him I see a little potential, but he just doesn't grab my attention a whole lot for some reason. Maybe he'll grow on me, but not so far.

I disagree, I think he showed great cover skills.

Swanson is better fitted covering a slot receiver BUT can cover on the outside if needed but better against less explosive receivers. kinda excited to see how this kid plays lol. hopefully he will make the roster.

Butler won't be supplanted by anyone. He was superb In nickel.

At least with Toler, we know or at least have a decent idea of what he is capable of on the Pro level. Swanson we have no idea. I'm willing to give him a chance, and I'm not dissing him but he hasn't grown on me yet from my initial evaluation. We'll see as we get more information!

If the Colts go with youth movement, I think that Vaughn and Gordy might be gone.  Sheldon Price, Nigel Malone, and Daxton Swanson are three good players that can be kept for depth.  Other than knowing the system better, I don't think Vaughn or Gordy offer better skills than the 3 Free Agents that were signed.  If the Colts keep 11 Secondary players, it might look like this:

Vontae Davis

Greg Toler

Darius Butler

Nigel Malone

Sheldon Price

Daxton Swanson

Antoine Bethea

LaRon Landry

Joe Lefeged

Sergio Brown

John Boyett

Players Cut would be:

Josh Gordy

Marshay Green

Cassius Vaughn

Teddy Williams

Larry Asante

Delano Howell

Now its a small possibility that all 3 FA will make it, but 1 or 2 of them is probable.

In an interview he compared his play to that of Champ Bailey and Darrell Revis. So if he's even a quarter as good as those guys then this is great signing. I think that him or Malone can make the team and get the nod over Vaughn.

Did you put on the Texas A and M film?

He actually played well against A&M. His team is who sucked. Their pass rush was nonexistent. And when they blitzed, they lost containment on Manzel giving him big runs.

Swanson had good coverage on the plays but Evans is 6'5 & Swanson is 5'11. Sometimes you just get out manned. Defensive Coordinator should've did something to help Swanson or put him on someone else. That's a mismatch all day and anyone can see that. He still gave it 100% effort he had good coverage but every CB meets a WR who beats them. It's bound to happen no matter how good you are or think you are

I hope C Vaughn makes this team just because it will send half of the fan base into a suicide watch.

WOW...    a kid has been here, DONE it, and the team WANTS him.      And some want to kick him to the curb for a UDFA?

OK.....            maybe this kid won't look so bad if our DL: can put a "RUSH" on the opposing O?

Maybe?

None of them will make the roster, the best they can hope for is practice squad. Not being a pessimist, just being a realist.

The roster spots are earned during practice and pre season games. None of us really see these players with the same eyes as the coaches and trainers see on a daily bases. Just because some of these players are not household names does not reflect on if their good enough to make the roster. There is always one or two who come to camp without any so called chance to make the team and then do something that impresses the coaches. For you to automatically think none of these players will make the roster is being a pessimist.

Nah, It's just I've watched tape on all of them. That's why I assume.

I think 1 or 2 is POSSIBLE, but not probable.
