Biggest steal of Colts draft

The more I watch tape on FS John Boyett, the more I think he will be the biggest steal from our draft(if he stays healthy of course).

His play and size kind of reminds me of FS Eric Weddle from the Chargers, who went high in the 2nd round in his draft. I think if we use Boyett right, and let him roam and make plays like Weddle is used, he can be a potential pro bowl player again if he stays healthy.

Your thoughts on Boyett or any other player you think could be our biggest steal of this draft?

Whatever CB we grabbed!! That is our biggest need. You see, CBs create awesome pass rush and we need to pressure the QB in the absence of Free. Also, good CBs will take pressure off of our offensive line.

Definitely CB.

Must be when it came time for the Colts to select a player , there was not a CB that Grigson had rated as highly as you did. Must also be that throughout the draft , Grigson did not see a CB that he thought was worth traded up or down to get . That meaning matching the value of the pick to the value of the player.

Hense no CB selected...

You are certainly on a CB tear for the past couple days Brian. This made me laugh, thank you

Hughes will be the steal in my mind. He has the tools to be a very good NT.

I agree BP-- I feel like the only reason he was taken so late was the injury he had last year affected his draft stock. I bet he makes the team and provides solid depth at the S position.

Don't disagree with you wanting a CB at all.. I wanted Xavier Rhodes just as much as anyone.

However, I do believe our front 7 is greatly improved and should put more pressure on the QB... Which in turn makes for better CB play IMO

What?! Hughes?! Hughes isn't a DB! He can't play Man against these elite WRs.

NO!!!! It is definitely the CB we drafted with our 1st selection! Bjorn Werner was the steal of this draft. Can you imagine him covering Megatron? Shooooo we got our Cornerback of the future baby! Vontae better just look out. But it doesn't stop there! Oh no. Grigson doesn't rest. We traded Jerry Hughes for stud CB Kelvin Sheppard (think of the movie "Iceman" and the neanderthal dude yelling SHEPHEERRRRDD). Now he's a show stopper! A wiley cave man with his hair on fire, who can play on an island or pressure the QB or block the opposing LB bearing down on Luck or pull and destroy anyone trying to come after Vick Ballard. These two DBs are gonna supplant the pregame "Reggie" chant at the Luke with orgasmic screams of "Shutdown"!! WOOOOO baby we are beast mode now! Build the Monster!!!

I think the reason Boyett fell so far in the draft is because of his injury concerns.  Im pretty sure he had some serious knee injuries last year,  Hopefully he heals completely and becomes a mainstay for the Colts.  His highlight real is very impressive!

I wouldn't be surprised to see contributions from all of our late rounders despite the competition sans Cunningham, who I still have to evaluate. The competitions tough, but Williams can carve out a nice niche for himself on the squad. Boyett and Hughes both have legit starter ability, and here's hoping they can overcome their red flags to contribute sooner rather than later. Both of them were top 100 talents, but you don't have players like that slip to where we picked them without some chinks in the armor.

I really don't understand all the people who think CB is a need, Vontae Davis will be a stud possible shut down corner this year, I and apparently the FO view Greg Toler as a good #2 corner, Darius Butler was very good as a #3 corner last year, and as much as people hate on Cassius Vaughn, he is good as a #4, his problem last year was we needed him to be a #2 corner, but their are hardly any #4 corners better than him, the experience he has makes him even better, i don't view corner as that big of a need at all

BPM.....

My friend Brian Casserly is being mostly sarcastic....

He has a long history here of getting annoyed at Colts fans who want another Cornerback.    He'd prefer more pressure on the QB -- which we all would.

Brian likes to take most every chance he can to rub our noses in the never-ending, always on-going, need another Cornerback debate....

Hope that clarifies....

yea i think we will just let him sit back(like Josh Chapman)and get healthy and gain about 15 pounds of muscle then he'll be able to compete with bethea for the position

haha yes. My friend NewColtsFan is correct.

I've repeatedly and violently struck this dead horse. I may ease off a bit...until I see this nonsense again. ;)

Sheppard is a linebacker.  Have you ever seen a 247 lb cornerback?

I feel just the opposite, a great pass rush makes great CBs.

Also, Not sure how a CB will take pressure off our O line, but I'm sure you have your reasons?

I cant get over this Montori Hughes guy. I mean talk about mean. This guy is Huge. I watched his combine video and was surprised at how quick he was for his size. He's difinantly got a mean streak and i think he fits Pagano's idea of a mean streak defense. and if anybody can keep him honest its Pagano. plus we got Laron Landry. Geeez, with Angerer and freeman in the middle and Werner and Mathis on the outside we are gpoing to have one absolutely  mean and nasty defense. I mean....half of our defense already has a reputation. I freaking love it. Bring the POWER to Indy!!!!!

I really like how Cunningham looks from the tape video I've watched. He really seems to be a natural catcher. He looks very smooth and shows the ability to snatch the ball and hang onto it despite getting blown up. Plus he's a very good blocker. I think he could be supprise.

Is this sarcasm again? I remember your CB sarcasm throughout the draft. A CB can not be expected to hold their WR for more than a few sec. The line and pass rush relieve pressure on the CB's. it's their job to get to the QB. Not the CB.

And yes, Boyett could be the biggest steal.

This is the most confusing post I've read in a long time.  I'm assuming you meant DE or DT, CBs don't create a pass rush!

    • Can you expend on this, why do you think that?
    • No, but I would love that! Is that true? Where did you hear that? I don't think that will happen. I heard that trading Herbert would result in a huge dead cap hit for the Chargers, that would make it nearly impossible to keep or sign other players.

    • Final edition, call it a less penalty driven team draft.   The Colts trade up on Day 1.   Round 1 a)       WR Rome Odunze (Washington) – led all receivers in CFB in pass interference call draws with 9 in 2023. b)      LCB Quinyon Mitchell (Toledo) – Only had 3 penalties in the last two seasons. c)       WLB Edgerrin Cooper (Texas A&M)   Round 2  a)      OL Cooper Beebe (Kansas State) – Jack of all trades OL No matter where Cooper Beebe lines up, he produces elite play. Jackson’s got excellent height we covet at 6’3” with great weight at 203 pounds, with ideal arms 32” and the span of 78” and good 4.44s-Forty.  Only committed 4 penalties in 2023. b)       DB Dadrion Taylor-Demerson (Texas Tech) - only 7 career penalties with 200 tackles, 57 stops, 11 pressues, 3 sacks, 16 passes defended, and 10 interceptions. c)       LCB Kris Abrams-Draine (Missouri) - 2023 PFF TOW 4 honors.  After 6 games leads all FBS players with 8 PBUs (1.8 PDPG) while adding 3 INTs.   10 combined interceptions and (7) forced incompletions are the most among Power Five CBs while only allowing 11 catches all season. 2023 college football midseason all-America First Team.  His 86.8 coverage grade is 5th highest in the FBS allowing just 107 passing yards and 11 receptions on the season. d)      SWR Malik Washington (Virginia) – Josh Downs 2.0 and only committed 4 total penalties in five years (52 career games).   Round 4 a)      RG Zak Zinter (Michigan) 2022 PFF Week 5, 11, 12 TOW Honors. 2023 earned college football midseason all-America Second Team.
