Manning Under Pagano

Recommended Posts

It would have been interesting had Peyton Manning played under a guy like Chuck Pagano. I know it has only been one year.  But Pagano seems to give the Colts that fighter mentality and toughness that I think has been missing since the 1995 Colts.  I know I will likely be attacked because the Colts won so many games with Manning at QB.   But I think if you take into consideration Manning's talent with the talent around him, they Colts underachieved.   Manning never had a combination of a balanced running attack with a solid defense.   The only stretch that every happened was the playoffs when they won the Super Bowl.

I have predicted that the Luck Colts will ultimately be more successful than the Manning Colts as far as Super Bowl wins.  And I think the reason why is because of the coaching and the strategy mindset.  Luck will be a major piece of a puzzle, where Manning basically had to carry everything.  I think Dungy was a bit overrated.  Great guy and good defensive coach, but as Jim Mora and Jim Caldwell showed, ANYONE would win as long as Manning was back there.

We don't even know IF Pagano is even a decent coach yet.  He was only in 4 or 5 games last year right?  We might have only made the playoffs 1/2 of the times we did if Pagano coached Manning.

I think Luck will win more SBs too with a balanced attack. Some of that will be because we were able to rebuild so quickly, without a rebuild mindset.

I completely agree.  I think that, as successful as the Manning era was, it could have been even more successful with a better coaching staff and a different philosophy in terms of team personnel, primarily in regards to the OL and defense.

There isn't any reason why we shouldn't of had 3-4 Lombardies during the Manning era. Sad when you think about it.

Just doesn't work out that way when another team in your conference has a QB about as good as yours but was also balanced. Manning always had a chance against the Pats but it was almost always a slight mismatch.

Colts past + present= colts football

The subject has nothing to do with the Broncos

Everyone seems to be claiming Pagono as a great coach and Grigson as a genius...Luck willed and carried that team and we could have easily been 5-11 if not for late game heroics...Pagano was a great story, but no one can say he is or will be a great coach yet, and Luck would make any G.M look good and elevated the talent around him.

To an extent. But still it causes problems & usually leads to the thread being locked

We underachieved miserably in the Manning Era, and should have had at least 3 Lombardis, but were outcoached and Manning choked consistently in the Playoffs. We had some young very talented teams that should have been all-time great teams.

All-time great offense, above average defense at times.

    • Let me ask everyone a question.   What is it about Love that makes u think Ballard and Reich want him as their franchise qb?  Based in the way Reich wants to play offence and the way they have constructed this team  how is Love a fit??? I want specifics. Schematically, how is he a fit?
    • Says who??  Who says he wasnt a 1st round pick.  Do u really think he was a 2nd round pick before the combine and then throws a couple of balls and shorts and is now a top 15 pick???  For all we know, Love may have been rated as a top 5 pick by most teams. I dont have a clue. I just hate  it when the talking heads said a player shoots up based on the combine. Most execs say it is the medical and interviews that matter.  The testing is just eye candy.
    • If we sign a QB in FA or trade for Carr or some other QB than yes it's a possibility.  Not just Becton but any of the top rated tackles.  It might depend on the length of AC's contract.  I think everyone is expecting a one year deal but if it's longer that might change things as to where to take a tackle in the draft.  I wouldn't think it would take long to get a one year deal done so we shall see.
    • I think I posted the video in this thread of Jordan Palmer talking to pat mcafee about love. He said when your a first rd QB playing with no draftable guys the INT happen because your coach tells you to go out there and sling it. . Also your always playing catch up so you have to throw it and take more chances.  What’s great about love is he takes blame for all of it.
    • Man is naird go Yes, u can blame the lack of talent and coaching to a degree. However, he went from a one read offence in 2018 to a system where more responsibilities were put on his shoulders. Therefore,  the increase in  interceptions.   Blaming his team mates and coaches is unfair to them. I do find it amusing that people r willing to give Love a pass on 2019 , however those same people jump all over Brissett when his reciever core was decimated by injury. Oh and please dont think I am a Brissett apologist. I just find it hyporlcrtical.  Love is the shiny toy.  The Mahommes look a like. This a is a huge draft for Ballard and Reich.  If they draft a qb high  they better get it right. Their jobs r on the line no matter how much faith Irsay says he has in the both of him.
