Who is your late round sleeper pick this year?

Recommended Posts

Mine is Jordan Kovacs.

Safety, Michigan. 6'0 195lbs

Tough, instinctive safety. Solid tackler, has the instincts to undercut routes and the ball skills to make the interception. Good blitzer and big hitter. Defensive captain and team MVP in his senior year.

Should be a 6th-7th rounder.

Elvis Fisher 6'5 300lbs OT Missouri

Fisher has the talent to be a second-day pick, but can't stay on the field. It didn't start out that way; he was the starting left tackle as a freshman in 2008. Fisher was an All-Big XII honorable mention at left tackle in 2009 and 2010. He had an excellent 2010 season as the blind-side protector for Blaine Gabbert. Fisher completely shut down Adrian Clayborn in Clayborn's final collegiate game.

Fisher missed the 2011 season with a ruptured patellar tendon.

I say 7th to undrafted but has tons and tons of potential if he proves he is back to 100%

Pass blocking: Solid pass protector who plays with a wide base. Lacks a fluid, quick kick-slide but does not get beaten outside. Flashes quickness to down-block and still pushes wide rushers or late blitzers around the pocket. Cuts down ends quickly and thoroughly on quick passes to his side. Gives too much ground against bull rushes, is always moving backwards and must anchor more quickly against NFL ends. Overextends to sustain at times instead of punching and recoiling. Inconsistent recovery speed, may struggle there at the next level. Used as tight end on unbalanced line.

Run blocking: Good strength as run-blocker on the edge, displays power and footwork to direct oncoming defenders out of running lanes. Gets after his man and stays on the block through the whistle, resetting his hands and moving his feet. Almost always in two-point stance in Missouri's pass-blocking scheme, looks naturally strong and quick with his hand down.

Pulling/trapping: Not asked to trap or pull in Missouri's pass-blocking scheme. Looks to have enough foot speed to trap inside if moved to guard, has aggression and willingness to sustain to knock out linebackers in his path. May have difficulty, however, doing more than get hand on inside targets due to average agility and flexibility.

Initial Quickness: Possesses adequate speed getting out of his two-point stance. Does not lose initial contact battle very often, but technique must be perfect to stay with quicker NFL ends. Capable reach-blocker, can direct quick tackles past the ballcarrier.

Downfield: Used in front of receiver screens, hits multiple targets and will sustain once latched on. Lacks the quickness to adjust to quicker defenders in space, will lunge and miss.

Intangibles: Media-friendly talker. Came to Missouri as a hard worker and has only continued to improve in the weight room and practice field. Gives full effort every play on the field. -CBS

Reggie Dunn- RB/KR Utah

Look him up. Great return man.

Marquess Wilson- WR Washington State

Big, physical, fast. Reliable target with #1 potential.

Bradley McDougald- FS Kansas

Great player. Kansas' best player last year. Converted WR with soft hands.

JC Tretter - Decent sized guard prospect out of Cornell. He's an athlete through and through, and he looks very promising for a guy who has changed positions several times. He was a high school quarterback turned Ivy League Tight End turned Left Tackle and looking to likely be kicked inside in the NFL. To me, he looks like an ideal center - great size, great on field awareness, great understanding of how plays develop and can double team and slip off very effectively, very good feet inside. A bit of a project, but a high upside. Projected anywhere from the 4th to UDFA.

Isi Sofele - Smaller back at 5'7 188ish, but I love to watch him play. Complimentary guy who plays without fear, willing to run up the middle, very slippery on the outside with a great burst. Takes off in an instant, reaching top speed quickly. Has a surprising degree of power, but he'll never be confused for MJD. Great change of direction. Could be a return specialist. Likely UDFA.

Brandan Bishop-FS NC State

Pros-Instinctual, has size (6'2" 205lbs) can come up and play the run, has been referred to as a field general, tackles well (although does dive at feet sometimes do to lack of top end speed) can hit, definite starting potential, would be an excellent special teams player who can develop into a very good starter

Cons-Lack of top end speed, Bites on fakes at times, lacks the speed to recover vs faster wr's

Thats 1

Joe Vellano-Maryland DT/DE

Pros-relentless motor, tackles well, experience in a 3-4, can pass rush from DE or NT, plays the pass as well as the run

Cons-Only 6'1"-6'2" plays with high pad level at times which can lead to him having some trouble getting off a block

Chris Thompson-RB Florida State-

Pros-Elite speed Back who played on Kick Returns and Punt Returns, shifty player, can catch out of the backfield, Decisive runner, gives good effort in pass protection despite lack of size

Cons-not an avery down Back (which thats not why I would want him) a bit of the Donald Brown type, first contact usually brings him down, WORSE then Brown when it comes to being hit behind the Line ( a boom or bust type Back)

He tore his ACL late October if I'm not mistaken

Yep thats why I think he can fall to where we can pick him up as an Undrafted FA, Plus October is 6-7 months ago, by the time the season starts (if he makes it through cuts and passes his physical) the injury should be fully healed or close to it, Low risk, high reward type player, or no risk at all if Undrafted player

    • Idk?   I think Ballard has a lot more control on how this is disseminated than you are giving him. I'm sure he has final approval, this isn't like the in season NFL hard knock thing.(Which we still controlled what was put out there) This is a team made draft video to get fans hyped.     It did the job for me     I do agree that, that was just a random comment about a guy(being there at #15) they were actually generally talking about in natural conversations and the sound bite was used there. I don't think it was just a comment made to place at the end intentionally. Whether that guy might be there, or is someone who should no doubt be there is the question, and what should we take from it ending that way    And it might not of even been his idea to put that at the end, but when presented how to end it, agreed this is the best way to get the fans talking about it.     Either way it was a great cliff hanger. Like I said it brought about some conversation, so I think it did it's part.
    • I watched the semi final game between Washington and Texas last night and Odunze and Polk just destroyed Texas. Penix had around 400 yards.
    • I’ll have to search for Hicks’ break-down.  I hadn’t seen much tape of Bowers until a couple of weeks ago when I watched a highlight reel, and that was very impressive.  I’m just nervous about how hard it seems to be to predict TE success…
    • I was thinking a bit about what Ballard said in that clip from "Behind the Colts", about "he's not going to get much bigger". No idea if he was talking about Worthy... but if he is... he's right. Whether Worthy ends up playing at 165 or 176... this is still extremely small and light. Whether he's in the 1st percentile or 5th percentile of athlete's in weight in the league, this doesn't change the type of player and type of worries you would have about him with any significance. So... in a way, I kind of find that conversation a bit pointless. IMO the question should be - okay. he is small... and he will always be small. Can we work with that? And can we live with the risk of injury for that small of a player? And the answer can be no here... I'm not saying we necessarily need to take that risk.
    • You think the Ed Dodds you see in edited clips here is the same as the Ed Dodds who interviews with teams?   I don’t know you or anyone would think that?      He’s very much respected around the NFL which is why multiple teams ask to interview with them most every year.
