Xavier Rhodes to Colts in McShay 4.0 Mock....

Recommended Posts

....   what makes this the most interesting mock draft for those of you who are Insiders is that for the first time this year, McShay stretches out the mock to two rounds.

Good stuff...   and lots and lots of interesting names in round two....

But since Rhodes is such a popular name here,  I wanted to at least tell you about it, since I can't link an Insider story....

I liked him earlier...then I have felt since he will not fall to us.  Personally he is the only CB I would take at 24...again just me.  I want more BIG up front or OLB BPA....or an OG that falls....

How many days left to painstakingly wait? 28 days....5 hours....and 59 minutes.....:)

Interesting pick, may be tough to pass on him if he is available. I have a hard time seeing us pass on a WR though.

I am not an "Insider." What were some of McShay's more interesting 2nd round picks?

On the right under recent topics.... there is another thread that has the second round...as info...should be merged with this one......

Here is the full two-round Mock....   it was posted by someone else over in the Colts section....

Is that because of Rhodes position (aka CB)? Or simply because you are big fans of Rhodes abilities in Pagano's system? Would you be just as happy with a different corner, like say Desmond Trufant of Washington?

Good question actually...    I have never seen dude play.   FSU is not a hot game here in Big Ten country.

But Indy needs bump and run, physical types.      Guess it's time to go and check YOU TUBE...       ;)

Rhodes is the guy who I've wanted the Colts to draft for a good while now. I'm more familiar with Rhodes personally. I like UVa, so I tend to watch mostly ACC Football (as bad as it is), so I've seen him play quite a bit. He's a pretty big CB 6'1 210lbs, he does well in man coverage, and he can hit very hard. I think he would do well in Indy.

I'm not as familiar with Trufant, so I can't really give a good analysis.

Both....   his style of play is a fit for Pagano's system.

But....  if he were gone and Trufant was there,  I'd be happy with him too at 24....

Rhodes is a perfect fit. I don't think CB is a huge need, but I'd love to add Rhodes. Wouldn't be as happy with Trufant, but is still be okay with that.

I have rallied for Rhodes for quite some time now, but I started doubting us getting him once we picked up Greg Toler. I certainly would be happy if it happened though

I have tried to go through our line-up and tried to figure who we could draft who could step into an open spot right now...

And the only spots I can see....   are RG,  C (if we don't think SS or Shipley are the guy) and maybe WR (if we don't think Hilton is ready to be the #2)      Otherwise,  I think we have the bodies and the money committed to believe that the front office thinks we have the starters there (at least, for now)...

So,  if we are going BPA,  then it's possible we're going to take someone who will have to win a heavily contested job (like corner  for example).....

Makes for all sorts of interesting possibilities....

If we got Rhodes I think it's possible he could win some playing time this year from one of our nickel and dime corners. He could take time from Vauhgn, Gordy, or even possibly Butler. More likely Vaughn and Gordy. There would be some competition though I'll say that.

I agree, I think he would start in place of Davis if we aren't able to re-sign him.

Exactly, my friend....   exactly....

I love me some Donnie Butler,  but Rhodes could easily force his way into the nickel corner and push Butler do the dime....

It's a competitive world out there....   As the Most Interesting Scout in the World likes to say....

I think Ogletree would step right in at LB....not that I'm hoping he is the pick

If we got Rhodes, I would almost immediately get rid of Cassius Vaughn. Toler and Davis would be the starters with Butler and Rhodes as the nickel and dime backs. I can't think of many teams that would have 4 corners with as much talent and ability to impact the game as that. That would be a sick combination.

I think we went through the season with 5 corners active most weeks....

So,  personally, I'd keep Vaughn, if for no other reason than I think he's very good on special teams and then, of course, in case  one of the top-4 gets injured,  then Vaughn moves up one...

I know he's incredibly unpopular...    but I don't hate him....  (I don't love him either,  but don't hate as well...)

Yeah but you still would have Josh Gordy left over. Rhodes would just be taking Vaughns place.

Or you could get rid of Gordy and keep Vaughn. Either way I suppose. For some reason I like Gordy though, although vaughn is the one with the most experience and I think he's faster than Gordy.

If we drafted Rhodes that would probably put Toler on the bench in my opinion

Imagine how shocked I am that you'd think this....

And if we take a safety, it will put Landry on the bench...

And if we take a tackle, it will put Cherilous on the bench...

And if we take an OLB, it will put Walden on the bench...

And if we take a DL, it will put Francois on the bench...

I'm sure I'm missing someone else....   but still...

Got it.

Ok, so Rhodes fits the scheme better. Good to know. Are there any corners that fit well as later round selections, assuming Rhodes isn't taken at 24?

    • Of course the speed is real unique in terms of him always being a top level separator. What I also like for him to be such a big dude is his feet. He's actually pretty nimble after the catch in small spaces.  I thought he just played on the outside but I've seen LSU play him from the inside as well. Also see them throw him quick hitter, screen type passes that he makes extra yards out of. I think he has very good hands and he is good with his routes. I didn't dwell much on attacking the football because that can be taught if it's an issue. I've seen some say he doesn't always go all out every time but no prospect is perfect in college. If I had things to fix I don't see big holes in his game. Just few things I like but not exhaustive
    • What do you mean back with a bang?  PFF rated Hooker 77.3 and Blackmon 68.3 in 2023.   Not a huge difference for a pick 15 and a pick 78? who had "injuries limiting their once all pro careers".  LOL.  But they did not play exactly the same roles.  Hooker was ranked poorly in terms of most stats, while Blackmon pretty average.   Example: Hooker was targeted only 10 times while allowing 8 receptions (ranked 90th).  Blackmon was targeted 44 times allowing 31 receptions (ranked 18th)  There are nuances with the stats though.   DeJean at 22 or later plus a 3rd round pick would give us probably a better all around FS/SS than either while picking up another player from a trade down.  Not that I'm advocating it.  Just one plausible event in a sea of fantasy drafting.   Brian Thomas or Chop Robinson at 22 would be nice too, IMO. Or even a RT.
    • Maybe his mannerisms, speech, and occasional (apparent) emotional public interjections (Saturday, comments about Daniel Snyder, etc.) play a part in public perception.   A truly recovering addict would admit his contribution to public perception and would not lay it off onto bigots, as he is indirectly doing.   He's probably not truly recovered and I would take anything he says about his issue as being a flat out lie until proven otherwise.
    • What do you like most about him? Personally, I liked him less the more I watched film. I see his comp as if DK Metcalf didn't attack the ball. I think he'll be good, but highly limited coming out. I'd like to know if I need to go back and reevaluate.
    • I agree thomas is one of of my favorites  along with Worthy for speed reasons.
