What the Colts did Right

The Colts did quite a bit of things surprisingly well. For starters, they shut down an explosive force in Peyton Hillis for 3 quarters, and unfortunately he had a couple of really big runs in the 4th. We did well against Colt McCoy in the 1st half, strip sacking him (Dwight Freeney), and putting some good pressure on him. He had to constantly roll out during the game because the Browns pocket was collapsing. The running game was generally very good for the whole game, and the Colts even got over 100 yards rushing in the game (109 total rushing yards). Kerry Collins was solid in the 1st half, stepping up and making some real good throws. The left side of the O-line was generally good throughout the game. The right side was okay early, then died as the game went on. Adam Vinatieri had a great game going 4 for 4, including a 52 yard field goal. Pat McAfee had another good showing, and Joe Lefeged had a nice kick return. Overall, it was a really good game, but the Colts played for 45 minutes, instead of 60, which is a problem.

What the the Colts did Wrong

The Colts had some major problems during the game. The 1st half was generally good on both sides of the ball, but Colt McCoy was able to make some passes, especially to Mohamed Massaquoi and Josh Cribbs. Josh Cribbs would catch a ball on the line of scrimmage and take it up for a 1st down; we need to tackle him. The cornerbacks are generally good tacklers, but we need to hit them right away, not wait for the receiver to get the 1st down. Throughout the game, Mohamed Massaquoi went up against Jacob Lacey, and beat him on several plays, some of which were big. One of them got them to the one yard line, and he consistently beat us on slants. The scheme and Lacey are bad. The Colts have to stop using so much Tampa 2, because they and all the other teams before the Browns, beat it. They always seem to beat it with the 5 yard passes; so with that being said, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, change the plays/schemes/coverages... anything. Kerry Collins played horribly in the 2nd half. He could barely make any passes, and time and time again they were finding themselves walking off the field after only 3 plays. If he played the way he did in the 1st half, in the 2nd half, they would have won the game. Jeff Linkenbach started out okay, but before you knew it he was letting Jamaal Sheard run by him and get a couple of sacks and put a lot of pressure on Kerry. The line was generally good, but Jeff Linkenbach played badly. Jeff Saturday played badly in the 1st quarter, but recovered in the 2nd, and didn't look back. The Colts need to mold together. What that means is that they need to fix up all the holes they have. Most of them are minor, but some are major, like the defensive scheme and the offensive line. Things need to change.

What bothers me about us is that when we have 3rd-and-long...the corners arent 'up' on the WRs..

Wouldnt you think when Mathis and Freeney are charging to the passer....?

the corners would be in 'press' coverage daring the receievrs to go long because that would take an extra second or two .

Sometimes the coverage does not seem coordinated with the rush.
