Eliminate All Field Goal Kickers In The NFL?

Whether you admire ESPN First Take journalist Skip Bayless or despise him, the man knows how to move the controversy needle. I love people who rock the boat & put time honored tradition & years of conventional NFL wisdom on it's head. I really dislike Playoff games or even SuperBowls coming down to the foot of a hot or cold kicker. Are they too fragile in crunch time with the exception of 4 time Lombardi Champion Adam Vinatieri? Are they overpaid specialists who have way too much power to grab or lose rings & ultimate NFL legacies? Does HOF Buffalo Bills QB want to chime in on this one? Probably not.

Even the Great Bill Belichick has spoken about this special teams issue as well...

Comments, questions, or concerns...What do the rest of you think of this proposal? Like, love, or hate it?

Let's remove kickoffs too...I don't know about that one. Special teams players & kickers get no respect it seems...

When you make it in Overtime & win the 2012 NFC Championship Game to go to the Superbowl, New York City Big Blue fans love Tynes though...feast or famine baby...feast or famine...

Terrell Suggs & the Baltimore Ravens remembers what happened last year [2012]...Will they make the most of their opportunity in New Orleans now? Time will tell...

That  will pretty much take away from many a teams hopes of winning a game with less than a minute remaining, down by one or two, no timeouts left, and they need to go a full 75 yards for the TD to get the win.  So take the game out of the kickers foot and give it to the officials, because i see a lot of heaving it up and to see if they flag any P.I. or get lucky on a Hail Mary.

Skip Bayless should be arrested for habitual stupidity .

Are we gonna cheer for flag football or give a trophy to each team  or will we celebrate a game that is true to its core  - Foot on ball thru uprights ,

Football has had many rule changes to protect the players . Kick offs & field goals are a  part of the game whats next  female DT or QB's .  Next up players will have to paint there nails the team colors or draw a fine ??

In baseball maybe a nerf ball will be safer for the batter - Hockey without a stick just kick the puck no sticks to hurt people .

This isnt a new idea....but I would consider eliminating field goals in overtime..

I'd like to see all OT games decided by TDs or safeties

..But its 'foot ball'.

Kicking the ball (kickoffs, punts or place kicks) has always been a skill the gives a team a legitimate advantage..

I would like to see field goals from beyond 50 yards count for four points while field goals inside the 20 only count for two.

But that's just to encourage offenses to take chances..

This is the only time that I have ever heard the Peyton Manning directly slam another football player usually he is so polite & diplomatic. Nice post Hawkeyes! 5 thumbs up for the rareness of #18 not giving a politically correct, commonly anticipated answer.

Your username reminds me of Alan Alda from the Korean War medical drama called MASH.

"... 'Hey, stop thinking and just KICK. Just trust your athletic ability and your muscle memory and let it rip.'"

This statement reminds me of head coaches in the NFL who try to "ice" the kicker, take a timeout, give the kicker too much time to dwell on a game winning FG, & make him miss. I hate this strategy employed by coaches. It's so stupid. Just ask Seahawks HC Pete Carroll about taking a timeout in the Playoffs this year.  haha
