Trailer's Free Agency and Draft

Recommended Posts

FA

Offensive Line:

  • OG Geoff Schwartz--Went on YouTube and looked at his tape. Looks like a solid O-lineman. I would prefer Louis Vasquez, but doubt Tom Telesco lets him go. Props to the Peytonator for bringing him up. Contract: $18 Mill for 4 years

Defensive Line:

  • DE Desmond Bryant--PFF's top-rated D-lineman. Doubt the Raiders let him go, but if they do, might not be a bad pick-up. Contract: $28 Mill for 4 years
  • OLB Anthony Spencer--PFF's top rated OLB. 'Boys are in serious cap-trouble. If they choose not to resign him, unlikely as that is, would be a solid pick-up, though he ain't gonna be cheap. Alternative is Paul Kruger at $40 Mill for 5 years. Contract: $50 Mill for 6 years.

Other:

  • WR Danario Alexander--6'5, 220 pounds. 33 catches, 555 yard, 5 TDs, in 7 games. Need I say more? Contract: $30 MIll for 4 years.

Draft:

****Indianapolis trades it's 1st round pick for a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th****

1st Round: N/A

2nd Round: Menelik Watson (OT, FSU)--6'6, 320 Pounds. Say what you want about him, but he's got talent, work ethic, and outstanding                                  quickness. May not have experience, but is a difference-maker when he plays.

3rd Round: Tharold Simon (CB, LSU)--6'3, 190 pounds. If we can get him in the 3rd, this could be a steal. Great size, good in coverage, and can come off the edge in nickel and dime coverage. Physical but uses his finesse. Room for improvement, but with Chuck Pagano as HC, he can become the next Richard Sherman (spare the attitude).

3rd Round:  DJ Swearinger (SS, South Carolina)--6'0, 210 pounds. Good run defender. Decent ball hawk. Solid but not great...

4th Round: Gabe Jackson (OG, Mississippi St.)--6'4, 320 pounds. Great run blocker and pass blocker. Good feet, a bruiser in opening running lanes. Would be a steal in 4th round. If we have to trade a 6th rounder to move up, wouldn't be a bad trade at all...

5th Round: Aaron Mellette (WR, Elon)--6'3, 216 pounds. Outstanding production albeit against weak competition. Great route runner, and has good speed and quickness. Will take him time to develop (timeline: 2 years, approx.), but after Reggie retires, can fill the hole as 2nd WR to Danario Alexander (look at FA)

6th Round: Terrence Stephens (DT, Stanford)--6'2, 305 pounds. Nothing more than a value pick.

7th Round: Ray-Ray Armstrong (FS/SS, Faulkner University)--6'4, 220 pounds. 7th round is generally for talented yet bad character guys. That's who Armstrong really is. Has tons of talent, but doesn't translate a whole too well on the field and has off field issues. If, a big IF, Chuck Pagano can fix this guy, he's got the potential to become an outstanding Safety. Could go OL or DL here as well.

Jesus dude, why you paying people so much?

Simon is a reach. I like the rest.

Tharold Simon in the 3rd is a reach? Not really. Has size, quickness, and is good in coverage. Wouldn't be surprised if he went in the 2nd round, especially if you look at the success of Richard Sherman (another large corner who went in the 3rd who had a similar skill-set that Simon has).

You can't get so sucked into a guy because he is tall and fast.

And Sherman isn't that fast.

What exactly makes them similar in your eyes?

Sherman is quick and his physicality in press coverage is what makes him the best CB in the NFL. All I'm saying is that Simon has his kind of potential. A 3rd rounder on a tall, quick and potential-loaded CB is a pick spent well. Can we go in a different direction? Sure, Chase Thomas or Brandon Jenkins would be great picks as well, but I honestly like Simon more than the other guys.
