Peyton or Luck in the playoffs?

House

Recommended Posts

I was just watching 'First take', garbage show I know, but Bayless just made the argument "If given the choice between Luck or Manning in the playoffs for the next three years, Colts fans would pick Peyton every time."

It's an interesting question. Who would you take? Peyton floundered occasionally in the playoffs, but has had post season success. Andrew is a complete unknown.

Skip Bayless, clearly dislikes Andrew, but his argument is always based on shortsightedness. He always qualifies his comments with "next three years" because he knows Indy probably made the correct call for the future.

Mods if this thread gets ugly please lock, but hopefully it will stay clean lol.

You are right....Its a typically rigged question...

For the next 3 years (or 3 weeks) obviously you would take Manning...who's played in 2 Super Bowls

...but our crossroad was last year and we set course for the next 10 years..

The real question is: Knowing what you know now.(and excluding Wilson of Seattle) ..Luck or RG3 in the post-season.

That's just a backwards way of looking at things, it's not logical, Manning is a Bronco now. We've moved on. Maybe First Take should be listed as sports talk comedy?

Skip Bayless or Skip Clueless. Maybe he should have had a cameo in that "Clueless" movie, Alicia Silverstone on the line for Skip for the sequel, I heard. :)  (however I like Alicia, just not Skip :))

If you get "Healthy, in his prime" Manning, you take Manning every time. But let's face it, if he'd played behind this year's Colts OL, he'd be in the hospital right now.

Our OL in 2010 wasn't any better.  Manning would be fine behind our OL because of his presnap adjustments and getting the ball out of his hands quickly.  It clearly woulndn't be the best scenario for him but he'd make it work.  Not that it matters since Peyton isn't here anymore.

He behind an equally bad line 2 years ago...

he doesnt take hits..he throws the ball quickly.....

We'd be in the playoffs with Manning still here..and Luck wopuld be in them if he was in Denver. I'd guess

Again, it's clearly just speculation, but if Peyton were here then my guess is that Luck would probably be in Cleveland.

It is a garbage show plain and simple, didn't always, but it's almost always now.

But your right we have moved on, however to insure he never has to praise Andrew, Skip always brings up "Indianapolis making a huge mistake." No matter what the subject is it always comes back to this inane point.

with the game on the line luck delivers, with the season/playoffs on the line why would you expect less?

Because everybody loses in the playoffs...its just the way it is..

Every town talks about how their guy cant come through inthe playofs..even

Tom Brady gets ripped because he hasnt wona Super Bowl in several years.....

Everyone's success level dips in the postseason because those are the best game against the best teams...

Very true, and if he made the playoffs there...he'd have been a true miracle worker...

Honestly I don't know about that....the miracle worker part.  Cleveland has a pretty talented base, but they do need some help at WR.  Otherwise, imo, they are right on the cusp of becoming pretty darn good.

skip is clueless about sports hes just there to create havoc. for me we have yet to see how luck responds to pressure in the playoffs so that is an unknown for right now. peytons percentage has always been a big drop during the playoffs

That's one of those fan myths....

In 2005 and 2009...the went to the Super bowl with Manning.

In other years, they didnt....

Its said that Manning is the reason for all losses

But pretty darn good and a playoff team in that division?

That's 2 different things...right?

Well, yeah that is true...lol   That's the unfortunate thing for the Browns and Bengals...they're going to have to become more than just pretty darn good to unseat the Ravens and Steelers....though both Ravens and Steelers did drop off this year so who knows what happens in the next couple of years. :)

I guess Frist Take is part of the 'ESPN model' where they shovel assorted high class opinion escort sports babes in as

'moderators' so guys who watch wont be so bored with the same guys making the same arguements again and again and again..

......about the same subjects..

The problems is that even their own mothers get tired of the same two egomaniacs shuffling words to say the same thing

that might be the case but Andrew Luck has given more no reason to think like that. in fact everytime an once of doubt comes into my head. luck and the colts prove me wrong. so i will give luck the benefit of the doubt. he keeps up the high level of play if not improves vastly. just seems like the kid lives for this type of pressure.

Total agree on that one!!! If you love Peyton you ought to be glad he's where he is are he might just be living back in his mama

in the fetal position!! Are a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

First off...   Bayless is a notorious Manning / Colt basher...  He is just throwing another scud in Irsays direction here.

Secondly Manning was below average as a Colt in playoff games.   9-10 I think.     And outside of maybe 3 or 4 "really outstanding efforts" he was...       just a another QB..   Second half of the AFCCG in 06 was his only "great" half of football in 4 playoff games that SB year.

Luck brings an element that Manning NEVER could ... the ability to move and RUN.

I want Luck ....

*sigh* It's such a shame that people still believe Peyton's level of play drops in the playoffs.  It doesn't.  His career regular-season results against playoff teams are almost exactly the same as his playoff results, both in QB rating, big plays, clutch plays and W-L.

No kidding... hard to belive that all equats to being 9-10 . I'm was and still am a huge Manning fan but looking at the whole body of work , I would say that for an all time top 3 QB( my opinion) , he did not came through those 19 games as "overly clutch." The stats you bring up can be a bit "misleading" due to the few games (KC and Denver) he had that were spectacular. He also came up short vs good defenses in bad weather and that is hard to argue. Is it due to the fact that a QB needs to throw a spiral to get the ball through windy conditions ? Dunno ... I agree that he was and is a wonderful QB but there are legit questions about the 9-10 post season.

He also throws a tight spiral and the ball won't flutter so much in New England when snow comes and wind blows. I know PM played in a dome but , it's anmazing how few really bad weatherf games he played in.

Cost 5 million per year vs around 20 million per year.

I don't know how Skip still has an job. But everytime he is on, I just change the channel.

His name "Skip" precedes him :) (so does his lousy reputation). As soon as you hear his name, you know what to do, "skip" the channel.

I think "Skip" hates Irsay. When Peyton was on the Colts, he would bash Peyton and the Colts. Now Luck is on the Colts, he bashes Luck and the Colts. Just an observation. :)

YES...    had Indy kept Manning this team would "probably" be in the playoffs....     maybe..

But 3 years down the road when Indy finishes 7-9 or 8-8 and left with NO QB and Luck is in Washington or St Louis tearing the league up we would all be saying ... "dang..  shoulda done it" ...

It's the nature of the beast..  and one day Luck will get it too ...      I guarantee it.

The days of the HOF savior are long gone..    Too much money at stake.

How about neither. One guy hasn't even taken a post season snap and the other guy can't win when he does. I'll take Eli or Rodgers right now. Maybe even Brees.

LOL if you watch the news you would be  a fool to not take Wilson or RG3. hahahaha... and If you listen to Skip... You can't find anyone much better than Tebow.

    • I have no idea how it will all shake out, but I have my popcorn ready.
    • There are no owners in the NFL that are perfect people. Some owner's demons are more public, some not so much, but they all have them. There's much more to the free agency issue and the Colts than most are aware of. There are a lot of intangibles most will never consider. That said, there is more to almost every aspect of any organization that most will ever be aware of. Those are often the things that matter most.
    • You can't measure what is "right" in a vacuum, or just by "feel". It takes so much more than that. The Colts front office performance is judged in relationship with all the other teams in the NFL. Just trying to objectively align the different perspectives of the scouting and coaching staff requires more sophisticated evaluation methods than what we saw in the video.   It doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling, but I understand this is the way a lot of organizations work.
    • https://www.stampedeblue.com/2024/4/1/24118330/i-pity-the-fool-mock-draft     Trade Colts 2nd round (440)   For   Packers pick 58 and 91 (456)   Packers select Zach Frazier C West Virginia 6'2 314lbs Logic: Packers replace Jon Meyers who gave up 5 sacks and had a pff grade of 55.8   Colts trade pick 58 and Kwity Paye   For   Saints Marshon Lattimore CB 27 years old and a conditional 2025 4th (depending on snaps could be 3rd) From Over the cap The team trading for Lattimore would take on his contract as is. They would have the decision to either pick up the option to defer the cap charges or to simply take all of the hit in 2024. Here is the cost on the cap if the team picks up the option in the contract:   Year Salary Cap Charge Dead Money 2024 $15,000,000 $12,000,000 2025 $18,000,000 $0 2026 $18,500,000 $0 2027 (void) $0 $0 Lattimore has no guaranteed money in his contract after 2024 so there is nothing that would lock a team into him beyond this year. Colts Logic: We wanted some experience in the secondary. We wanted a shutdown corner. So we give the Saints a offer they can not refuse. In the first 2 rounds we address most of our defensive woes. Saints Logic: Saints are switching to a 4-3 defense this year and just let Michael Thomas walk. They have always been cap wizards but this may be the year to start a new with the changes listed above. Lattimore has only played 17 games these past two seasons and even though he's a top 12 CB when healthy he has been dinged up. Kwity Paye can start at DE until Chase Young is healthy.
    • Ballard should have never cut him. I want Ogletree on the team as well considering charges were dropped (I believe), but his whole fiasco with his fiance where battery might have been involved was way more of a sensitive topic and understandable of being cut for than Rodgers friend betting 1k on his account on a Colts run stat over/under. That's the worse thing Rodgers was found guilty of, and now we have Colts fans trying to convince themselves we need a RD1 CB pick after 3 were chosen in last year's draft...    He did a podcast detailing what he bet on with Franklin and Speed in case others haven't seen it. Much ado about nothing imho and it's obvious the locker room still like him/didn't think he was negatively trying to affect the outcome of games, and they would know best on that over anyone.
